Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis and potassium

pancreatitis

Avatar n tn I have a 20 year old female friend who has had many different health problems. Within the last two years she has been diagnosed with kidney stones, anemia, pancreatitis, hypokalemia, mixed connective tissue disease, asthma, raynauds disease, mono, bronchitis, pleurisy, pericarditis, chostochondritis, uti's, kidney infections...She has had a fever for weeks...
Avatar m tn You also want to keep the food low in fiber and high in potassium. Cushings medication makes it difficult for dogs to digest high fiber foods properly, and high potassium diets just give them more "oomph" when dealing with taking the necessary medications. What medications does you vet have your dog on?
Avatar f tn Urine was tested only for infection (no protein other analyses done), and additional blood work has not been conducted yet to test for potassium, sodium, phosphorus, etc. Prior to the pancreatitis, he sporadically leaked urine at night, but about a week before his pancreatitis emerged, it progressed significantly to every night, and during the day during long periods of sleep. This has naturally persisted, along with classical symptoms of increased water intake.

Avatar n tn Blood work showed a high potassium level and his electrolytes were out of whack. He went in for a sonogram today and they found his body riddled with tumors. He seemed perfectly normal a few days ago and I can't believe how quick all of this happened.
3241370 tn?1346753869 Derangements of the natural chemicals of the body and metabolic derangements after surgery can lead to an ileus. Sodium, potassium and magnesium level alterations can affect peristalsis and normal intestinal movements. Correction of metabolic derangements, High fiber diet, laxatives, stool softeners, suppositories, enemas are the available treatment options. The treating doctor can decide what is best for him. I do hope it helps. Take care and kind regards!
Avatar n tn Trouble was I had a really bad Nicorette habit. Low and behold I have chronic pancreatitis and if I chew the gum--the pancreatic pain skyrockets. I would say "YES" Nicorette either causes, triggers, or aggrevates pancreatitis.
Avatar f tn im now being directed to take a gastric emptying study which i already have had done a year ago and those results were normal..my question is...is here a link between pancreatitis and bile reflux? and if so, would it not be indicative of an obstruction (due to the minor dilation) of my pancreatic duct....is there any remedies or speculation around these test results?
Avatar f tn She has to DRINK so much water or even better a sport drink like Gatorade (contains sodium and potassium), that she will excrete at least 200 ml of urine every morning. But she probably lost some electrolytes, which may be dangerous. Take her to the doctor and she will have appropriate stool and blood tests, a lot can be seen from this two only.
Avatar n tn I had hyperparathyroidism and it was my understanding that was separate from my thyroid issue. I'm not sure that is clinically correct though. Hope you get more answers.
Avatar m tn Now its been basically non-stop, confirmed by mri, that it is chronic pancreatitis, and fatty liver. Im being sent to a pain specialist for the pain, and hoping he can offer relief, because Ive been recieving very little help from my doctor with that. Im 5'5", used to be about 138lbs, and now am 162, with gain of 10lbs a month on a low fat diet, no meat, no bread, soft food. I dont understand except unless wieght gain is from thyroid going wrong, im hypothyroid.
Avatar f tn NA/K RATIO = 25 With these results, the vet so far has diagnosed PANCREATITIS and I am now following a strict dietary regimen for her. He also gave her an injection for the vomiting (which has now subsided) and Convenia (since the skin problem persists). I advised that periodic whole body tremors go on with her (a couple to a few a day lasting just seconds; never collapses like a full seizure).

Avatar n tn t really given much say in the matter, as the pancreatitis was a nasty attack and I was strongly advised to get my gallbladder out asap after it. It was a straightforward procedure, with no after effects. I can't really say I felt better, because apart from the pancreatitis incident, I never had any problems beforehand! I do sometimes suffer with the "dumping syndrome" which, whilst unpleasant, doesn't worry me too much as I believe it's normal.
Avatar f tn t seem to care about the Pneumobilia and one Dr seemed to think its normal and I might have it forever, but I am concerned especially about possible infection coming from the small bowel into the Biliary hepatic vessels and also can this air be causing the ongoing Pancreatitis?
Avatar m tn been suffering from pancreatitis and doctors thinking my gallbladder may be messed up....How common is it to have had a normal HIDA scan with no apparent stones?
Avatar m tn or it could be pancreatitis.. if you've been drinking or hitting NSAD's really hard lately..the pain is pretty high with pancreatitis and you'd be doubled over..but not always. A blood test for pancreatitis can be used if you've been drinking a lot.. either way with an ulcer i'd avoid alchohol/tylenol/asprin like the plague. That'll kill your stomach.
Avatar n tn Use one to two in your WATER if needed and recheck urine after an hour. You may have pancreatitis from a gallbladder problem, (even if it's been removed). DO NOT DELAY, MAKE AN APPT TODAY!
Avatar f tn You might have pancreatitis. That could cause all 3 symptoms, and the elevated enzymes. Other causes of your symptoms would not likely do that. Make sure your doctor checks you thoroughly for pancreatitis.
Avatar m tn Well I/we know she has a drinking problem, she has started drinking again. She said she researched and drinking Red Wine does not hurt her Pancreatitis. In my feeble attempts of research I have not found anything that supports her thought process. What scares me is she was in a Coma for about 5 weeks and came real close to death for the first week or so, the doctors didn't think she was going to live.
Avatar n tn Oh I am SO sorry! Bad enough to lose your friend, but it's so much worse during what is supposed to be a joyous time of year. I have to agree with your vet regarding the cause of death. I lost my first dog to pancreatitis and he had the same symptoms as your dog. It's an extremely painful condition and very difficult and expensive to treat. The only blessing here is that your dog was spared a great deal of suffering and took a difficult decision out of your hands.

Avatar f tn I am a 60 year old female who was diagnosed in the late 80s with acute pancreatitis and still have sporadic trouble today in 2014. A few weeks ago I was diagnosed with hcv and was wondering what effects I would have with the two diseases together, for instance if given treatment for my hep-c will it make my pancreas worse or will I even be able to do the hcv treatment at all?
Avatar f tn Hi, my dog went thru a period of not eating her canned royal canin kidney diet when her creatinine, BUN and phosphorus became elevated more than it had been. I tried offering her foods that were low in phosphorus and lower in protein.
