179856 tn?1333547362 Wow I really had no idea you could have liver failure and kidney failure and all that........I never really thought about it and now it makes more sense why karen Carpenter died from it.
Avatar f tn m going to have to do a little reading on the interaction between pancreatitis and kidney failure, so please bear with me. In the meantime, I think you may benefit from reading my article on diet and, if nothing more, it may give you some ideas on foods worth trying: http://www.infobarrel.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Pancreatitis 2 years ago and had 2 be hospitalized for a month beacuse of my Diabetes being too high and amylase & lipase being over 1000 (it was 1500). So I was wondering if I need 2 be re-hospitalized 2 see if it's up because I'm very scared if I don't something about this soon. This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/227639'>another mysterious orange oily substance with bowel movement</a>.
1382010 tn?1279643604 Some other causes of ascites related to increased pressure gradient are congestive heart failure and advanced kidney failure due to generalized retention of fluid in the body. In rare cases, increased pressure in the portal system can be caused by internal or external obstruction of the portal vessel, resulting in portal hypertension without cirrhosis.
Avatar m tn Now its been basically non-stop, confirmed by mri, that it is chronic pancreatitis, and fatty liver. Im being sent to a pain specialist for the pain, and hoping he can offer relief, because Ive been recieving very little help from my doctor with that. Im 5'5", used to be about 138lbs, and now am 162, with gain of 10lbs a month on a low fat diet, no meat, no bread, soft food. I dont understand except unless wieght gain is from thyroid going wrong, im hypothyroid.
Avatar f tn Heart failure will cause him to have shortage of breath, kidney failure will cause him to vomit and have diarrhea, and pancreatitis will causes him to be in pain. I really don't know which is the right choice. Should I let him continue living this way till his time is up or should I put him to sleep? Can anyone please advise me?
Avatar n tn My dog had acute pancreatitis over the weekend and I took him to an emergency vet on Sunday and to his vet on Mon. They both kept him overnight, IV, blood work, meds, and his vet did a rectal x-ray and abdominal x-ray with barium to look for obstruction. He found dirt/sand. My dog ate cat poop covered in dirt. He is at home now doing fine and I have him on a bland diet of canned white chicken and brown rice only. However, his lower abd/belly is a little distended and hard.
Avatar n tn Hi .. I have the same thing ... started a year or so ago with mild spasms in left back and front area .. now its pretty much constant and it's in my left hip and left shoulder. Sometimes my ribs and side is tender to touch and I get gas and discomfort as well as low back ache. I had one bad lot of pain one night that I thought might be pancreatitis but nothing since and I carried on drinking heavily (I had a drink problem but have stopped now) for several months after and no more attacks.
Avatar m tn I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. It's unlikely that pancreatitis results in acute liver failure/necrosis (ALN)- while pancreatitis can result in ELEVATED liver function tests (LFTs), it shouldn't cause failure. Cause for ALN include blue-green algae exposure (in stagnant ponds), sago palm ingestion, xylitol sugar-free gum, a few medications, etc. Sometimes end-stage liver disease (cirrhosis) can also cause acute liver failure also.
Avatar f tn 5 (her levels lowered after 48 hours of IV). She is anemic and has pancreatitis and a UTI as well. She has been struggling with loss of appetite (weight loss) and vomiting. I have been giving her daily Sub-Q fluids, Epikitin, Famotidine (10mg), and she is on an antibiotic for her UTI--for two days an appetite stimulant. Her blood was tested again 23 days later and her BUN 87, Creatinine 6.2, and Phosphorus 9.8 Her diet started out as Hills diet G/D (not K/D because of her pancreatitis).
Avatar m tn s pains and itchy tingling feeling around my stomach area and sides of my ribcage and hands and chest, my appetite is gone, my throat burns, and I feel really tired and confused. Does this mean I have damaged some of my organs, what other symptoms should I look out for. I drink often, and I normally dont get hangovers at all, and when I do they dont last very long and I usually only get a headache.
Avatar f tn s very unlikely that your puppy would develop pancreatitis from ONE piece of hotdog. Pancreatitis is caused by the dog eating something very high in fat, and a bite of hotdog, while it CAN cause stomach upset, particularly in such a young puppy, shouldn't be enough to do anything at all to the pancreas unless the organ is badly damaged in the first place.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with pancreatitis and also at the same time my knee replacement that was 15 months old became infected and I'm just wondering if they are tied together.
Avatar n tn t really given much say in the matter, as the pancreatitis was a nasty attack and I was strongly advised to get my gallbladder out asap after it. It was a straightforward procedure, with no after effects. I can't really say I felt better, because apart from the pancreatitis incident, I never had any problems beforehand! I do sometimes suffer with the "dumping syndrome" which, whilst unpleasant, doesn't worry me too much as I believe it's normal.
20820562 tn?1524877846 She was constipated and vomiting. The vet took blood work that showed she had pancreatitis and kidney disease. Her BUN was 76 and creatinine 5.6. Her pancreatic function numbers were (Am) 2148 and (LP) 2792. She was on IV fluids overnight and her numbers barely changed for her kidneys but her pancreas function numbers were (Am) 441 and (LP)550.
Avatar n tn Since all your lab works and imaging studies are otherwise normal and you never had any bout of pancreatitis before, a wait and watch policy is likely to be the best course of action for you. Also, the risk of surgery to pancreas is high, so since the side branch lesions are usually harmless, a wait and watch policy is adopted for most lesions less than 3 cm which do not cause dilatation of the main pancreatic duct nor have a solid mass or nodule within them.
Avatar n tn These tiny lumps can grow and clump together, making many large and small groups of lumps which can affect how the organ works. It can also cause scar tissue and permanent organ damage. In the lungs, sarcoidosis can cause trouble breathing, scar formation and in some cases, respiratory failure. And sarcoidosis is permanent. If the amount of sarcoidosis you have is small, you have to consider that the interferon you're taking for the Hep C can make it worse.
Avatar n tn he was in kindney failure and heart failure. he started having fits over the weekend and arrested twice. on both occassions i successfully carried out cpr but after a lot of soul searching and on my vets advice (she said charlie only had days left at best and probably hours) i agreed to putting him down, although i regret it now. my wife ran off with someone last year and now i've lost the best freind i ever had. no more dogs for me. but thanks for the advice.
Avatar f tn Hi, Any contrast dye used for seeing the functioning of any organ puts mainly one organ at risk and that is kidney as the contrast has to excrete through the kidneys. Hence, before doing any test where a contrast is used the kidney functions are tested. If the kidneys are not functioning properly or there’s an evidence of dehydration or there’s a slightest suspicion that the kidneys could be damaged, then the test using the contrast is not used. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
Avatar n tn Very likely, particularly if you drink alcohol. The pancreas is a very sensitive organ, and once you've had an acute attack you have to be very careful about what you consume. Pancreatitis is a horribly painful condition I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, and it can be fatal if not properly treated.
Avatar m tn Hello, Thank you to anyone who may respond and offer information in regards to my post. My simple history is I have been diagnosed with acute pancreatitis and then was upgraded chronic p. I have been to a slew of doctors(GP/GIs) who have done numerous tests including multiple ultrasounds, amylase/lipase serums, ct scan with contrast, and a hida scan with all of them showing negative results. My pancreatitis seems to come and go for no apparent reason.
611067 tn?1458591483 being off the Lortab and I'm not. I'm still suffering with the pancreatitis. The specialist is still trying to figure out how to get into my abdominal cavity considering my gastric bypass. I'm just depressed and feel like such a failure in all areas of my life right now. I could really use and escape right now and Lortab is sounding very good. I'm worried because I'm starting to use the Xanax more than usual as well.
Avatar f tn At this point, I’m not sure what could have caused liver failure, and not sure how we went from gull stones to liver failure so quickly. Anyone have any advice on long term prognosis. She has no plans to ever touch Tynelonal or Alocohol, but this all started during pregancy, when she was not having any of those.
Avatar m tn This was acute necrotizing pancreatitis with sepsis and organ failure. His gall bladder never did show stones except on one ultrasound weeks after he was admitted to the hospital. The scans did show sludge blocking his common bile duct and that is what caused the pancreatitis. After nearly dying, he is still trying to get stronger a year and a half later. He was left with insulin dependent diabetes as a result. The sludge is kind of like sand and bile mixed and can block the duct.
Avatar m tn As you already know, pancreatitis is one of the more frustrating and difficult medical problems a person can be faced with. Since you already know what is causing the problem (sludge in the duct) is there a reason the doctor hasn't perfomed an ERCP to clean it out? Placement of stents can sometimes help to keep the duct open a bit further to prevent more sludge formation, but they also tend to fall out.
Avatar m tn I have had pancreatitis before and this does feel very similar. Fortunately, this time it went away but pancreatitis is extremely painful and doesn't go away. I was kept in the hospital for 7 days, no food, no water, intravenous fluids and strong pain medication every 2 to 4 hours as needed! I NEVER want to experience that again but I can't help but fear that I will. My pancreas was damaged by both the diabetes and by the pancreatitis so my chances are high of having this reoccur.
