Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis and ibs

pancreatitis

Avatar m tn or it could be pancreatitis.. if you've been drinking or hitting NSAD's really hard lately..the pain is pretty high with pancreatitis and you'd be doubled over..but not always. A blood test for pancreatitis can be used if you've been drinking a lot.. either way with an ulcer i'd avoid alchohol/tylenol/asprin like the plague. That'll kill your stomach.
Avatar f tn Yes - I suffer from chronic pancreatitis and had SOD. Back in 2006 I had SOD surgery. I also suffer from IBS. Also, one doctor thought I had gastroparesis because I had an abnormal emptying study last year, but I just returned from Mayo and the emptying study came back normal. Also, most recent doctor thought I had Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth and put me on Cipro for 8 days. Now I don't know if the pain is from my stomach/antibiotics or the pancreas.
Avatar m tn Hi 6man6, After antibiotics it is possible to have a flare of your IBS symptoms, such as pain ,spasm and diarrhea, but especially if this pain is different than your usual IBS pain you should see your doctor to rule out something else going on, like gallstones or pancreatitis or GERD, which can all cause this upper right quadrant and central upper quadrant pains radiating to the back. These things have to be dealt with as soon as possible, as they can become serious if left unchecked.
Avatar m tn listen,,,if you dont lay completely off the booze, your going to develop pancreatitis, and this will kill you,,,is that something you can understand? i have a buddy who is 37 years old with 2 small children, and hes dieing!! chronic pancreatitis only get worse over time,it starts to digest itself and you need your pancreas!! ibs is something that you deal with all the time, and gardia is a possibility, but easy to pick up on a fecal test...highly doubtfull it was or is that.
Avatar f tn This discussion is related to Is it possible to have gallstones after having the gallbladder removed?. I am reading all of these comments and am so suprised at the variation in the things everyone has been told. I myself have been going through this pain. I just spent 6 days in the hospital with what they called panreatitis. I have the same pain it sounds like that ya'll have had.
Avatar m tn thanks for the coment ,ive always felt like the CT scan missed what the problem was, i mean i went down the list of symptoms from Chronic pancreatitis and Panc Cancer, and it was 6 for Yes and 1 for no on CP and it was 4 yes and 4 no for panc cancer, not that u can go,oh u have CP ,because of that, but ive been having these symptoms since June 6th 2013,my GI doctor 1st thought IBS,so i went two months with trying to fix ,went back after the two months ,he did the CA 19-9 and the CBC,and now co
Avatar f tn 10 years ago I started with severe abdominal pain diagnosed pancreatitis with amylase levels over 500. I have had my amylase fractionated and it is coming from my pancrease (not salivary or ovarian). Severe acute attacks intermittently managed with pain medication and diet (good days and bad days type of thing) for 5 years before I finally had a CCK HIDA with an ejection fraction of 7%.
Avatar f tn It can trigger an attack of pancreatitis but is usually short lived. My mom has battled chronic pancreatitis (idopathic, non drinker) for over 4 years and is 30 days post whipple. Amylase and Lypase do not always show elevated levels even if having an attack. Get a good GI, one who specializes in diseases of the pancreas... not just a general GI. ERCP can show a lot, stents can be placed in ducts during procedure which can ease pain.
Avatar n tn Drat! GI problems take lots of maintenance! .I went through the same thing for many months. I had difficulty figuring out what was happening because, like you, I had other conditions contributing to by gastrointestinal problemsI feel more secure in life knowing that there are things I can do to control that chronic pain. Here's what I learned: My pain was associated with two conditions (1) an empty stomach and (2) gas.
Avatar n tn For something that long and without tons of symptoms, it could very well just be IBS, although that is a dianosis of exclusion. Have you talked to a GP(Your normal doc) or a GI about this at all? Again, since it has been 3 years, I doubt its going to be anything major, but having them diagnosing it as IBS wouldnt be a bad idea. Also, is it in the upper quadrant or lower?
Avatar n tn I have had a colonoscopy, abdominal CT scan, ultra-sound within the past 2 months and all were normal. I have seen a specialist (gastroenterologist) and he said he is not concerned unless the blood levels are 2 - 3 times higher than normal (only about 50 - 70 points higher now). I also have a mildly elevate AST for the past 4 years and tests have not shown a cause. I do not drink or smoke. I am otherwise a healthy 42 yr woman. What would you do if you were me?
Avatar n tn Seems that my doctors and speciliast have given up on helping me my doctor said its in my head and then she said its ibs. I find it hard to believe ibs can cause me to get dizzy and have extreme stomach pain etc. They asked me what tests I wanted to do but I dont know which other tests might help me. This all just makes no sense whats wrong with me I never get sick have any problems or ever complain about anything, and then 1 day it just comes out of nowhere.?
658828 tn?1225046595 I have been reading online and think I may have Pancreatitis? Are these symptoms consistent with Pancreatitis? I also have read about Fibromyalgia as well b/c these autoimmune diseases seem to occur together, but I just cant get myself to think that this is just a muscoskeletal pain problem especially since its mainly in the area where my kidneys are located. I have an appt with a GI dr next week so I am hoping i can get some answers.

Avatar m tn Until recently, my health was more or less excellent. In November of this year, I went to India and suffered from diarrhea (with blood and mucus in my stool). I took tinizadole. It had no effect. I moved to Berlin in Jan, produced three stools for a specialist and was tested for dysentery and giardia. Both came back negative. They also run some blood tests. I was put on a strong general antibiotic, which worked, sort of. For two or three months, I had a relatively regular stool.
Avatar f tn Ive spent the last week in hospital as i couldnt stop throwing up and got too dehydrated, they put it down to gastroenteritis and IBS etc but they have referred me back to the hospital as an outpatient as ive been in there for sickness and diarrhea so many times before. I have to go back to work tomorrow now and really not looking forward to it... Please let me know how you got on and if there is anything that has worked for you or helping you.
760260 tn?1238083189 Could you have some chronic pancreatitis problem? Also many with IBS are well muscledd and healthy so I'm not sure that should knock out the diagnosis. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Avatar f tn The second was a month ago as i had pancreatitis which was bought on by the ERCP which had been performed the same day and i was in hospital for 9 days, when leaving the hospital i was still in some pain but they said my bloods had all gone back to normal and the pain would just ease away.
Avatar f tn After my gallbladder was removed I developed acute pancreatitis, now almost 2 yrs later I have chronic pancreatitis and insulin dependant as my pancreas has stopped working, but it sure hurts. Blood/lab tests will show lipase and amylase. CT scan would help diagnos other problems.
Avatar f tn Comprehensive diagnostics including endoscopies, colonoscopies, biopsies and labs (blood and stool) yield no reason, other than limited gut motility and chronic constipation. Rxs, dietary and biomedical interventions ineffective. NG tube cleanse outs are effective but last only 2 days before bloating returns. Carries diagnosis of IBS, GERD, Non-Allergic Rhinitis. Has history of pancreatitis. Is on special diet. Bloating unresolved for 6 months. Welcome any ideas. Thank you.
