Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis and eating disorders

pancreatitis

Avatar f tn Okay I am aware this is a diabetes forum, but the thyroid ask a doctor forum is full, like they usually are.. and am seeking advice.. I was wondering, because a friend of mine has shown symptoms of hyperthyroidism, after I had done some research, and I plan on urging them to get this checked out. I also know that this person's father has pancreatitis. I read that thyroid disorders can be hereditary.
Avatar m tn Now its been basically non-stop, confirmed by mri, that it is chronic pancreatitis, and fatty liver. Im being sent to a pain specialist for the pain, and hoping he can offer relief, because Ive been recieving very little help from my doctor with that. Im 5'5", used to be about 138lbs, and now am 162, with gain of 10lbs a month on a low fat diet, no meat, no bread, soft food. I dont understand except unless wieght gain is from thyroid going wrong, im hypothyroid.

Do you think that this has anything to do with the possible hyperthyroidism, the association between pancreatitis and thyroid disorders? I can't find much about it. And are thyroid disorders linked with diabetes?

Avatar f tn Unfortunately something went horribly wrong and he could not swallow food afterwards! So a feeding tube was used and then removed after three long years. He can eat but very very slowly cause he chokes soooo severly on everything! He can only swallow with his head tilted to the right also. His appetite still has never returned, so wanting to eat is almost gone! Is there anything that can help with this?
Avatar f tn If you have extreme hunger and are overeating during the day as well, and are concerned about your weight perhaps I would consider an eating disorder, but it sounds more medical or nutritional to me.

Avatar m tn 0 High Everything else if fine in the panel and in my Urinanalysis. I am wondering if I can get any advice on this. I had acute Pancreatitis and I have elevated Triglycerides.
Avatar n tn Lung infections like pneumonia and bronchitis can irritate the diaphragm and cause vomiting. Pancreatitis is another entity diagnosed by blood tests and ultrasound. Renal stones can cause vomiting and pain. The stones may be too small to be picked up by an ultrasound. Inflammatory bowel diseases can also be the culprits. Discuss these options with your doctor when you happen to meet him. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn The most common causes of pancreatitis are gallstones and heavy alcohol use. Other less common causes include medications, metabolic disorders (hypertriglyceridemia and/or hypercalcemia), infection, trauma, surgery/procedures (ERCP), autoimmune disorders, and anatomic variants (pancreas divisum). Sometimes, a cause for pancreatitis is never found.
Avatar n tn CA 19-9 can be elevated with pancreatic cancer but can also be elevated with pancreatitis or hepatobiliary disorders. It sounds like your husband has at least pancreatitis based on CT, but it is unusual that the other blood work was normal. Usually pancreatitis presents with elevated amylase and/or lipase. Significant weight loss is concerning for cancer. Jaundice, dark urine, and light stools would also be concerning if present.
229538 tn?1300377767 Hi all ! Can someone please tell me about pancreatitis and the mortality rate when your cat gets it ? My Kaci cat whom I just love so much is old (about 161/2 ) and I have been taking her to the Vet to get hydrated about every 4 days . She is not really eating well and I am really worried . Anything more that I can do for her ? Any suggestions would be appreciated so much ! Thank you ..
Avatar m tn It can be due to hypertension,Gastroesophageal reflux disease(do you have heart burn and difficulty in swallowing) and hiatal hernia, disorders involving the lung like Pneumonia, pulmonary embolism, pneumothorax etc;cardiac diseases, lung cancer, thoracic outlet syndrome, pancreatitis, gall bladder disease(fullness and pain in the right side of abdomen and chest after eating a greasy or fatty meal) and muscle pain[costochondritis(an inflammation of the joints in your chest)].
Avatar m tn Are they referring to people with active eating disorders who are in a compromised medical state and more prone to seizing, or will anyone who has ever had an eating disorder be denied this med? I am not asking for Wellbutrin because of the weight loss side effects- 100% honest!!- but instead for its apparent success rate. Finally, do I simply ask my doctor to prescribe it for me? Or would they have to recommend it?
Avatar m tn As the days went on she ate less and less and would seem very lethargic in the morning and would perk up in the afternoon. Well when we took her to get her check up, her liver numbers were high which didn't seem to concern the doctor since they have been for the past two years and they haven' really gotten any higher. But her pancreas numbers were through the roof and she noticed that when she squeezed her abdomen she would flinch.
Avatar f tn Besides alcohol and gall stones other causes for the pancreatitis include hereditary disorders of the pancreas, cystic fibrosis, high triglycerides, and certain medicines. As you wait for the repeat ERCP, go through your medication list and also have a lipid profile done. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Hello, Many disorders produce chest pain or discomfort. Some (e.g., acute MI, unstable angina, thoracic aortic dissection, tension pneumothorax, esophageal rupture, pulmonary embolism) are immediately life threatening. Some (e.g., angina pectoris, pericarditis, myocarditis, pneumothorax, pneumonia, pancreatitis, various thoracic malignancies) are potentially life threatening.
Avatar f tn The doctor said 20% of people have idiopathic pancreatitis and that you just learn to manage but I don’t want to keep getting pancreatitis every month to month and a half. All the doctors and surgeon have said they are certain that the first attack was because of gallstones but if it was and then the second attack was because a stone slipped through and the third attack was because I didn’t know you weren’t supposed to drink while the pancreas was healing why did I get it the 4th time?
Avatar n tn *Really* smelly breath, horrible taste in my mouth and really smelly flatulence! Seem to be a bit constipated as well even though eating well. Generally feel very under the weather, exhausted, headachy and nauseous as well. Any help much appreciated! Thank you.
Avatar n tn It has a wealth of information on both acute and chronic panc. and related disorders, and very helpful members to whom you might introduce your query. Do hope this is of use. Best wishes to you.
Avatar f tn Initially she seemed to get better. However, her belly is swollen again and she is not eating well at all. Her swollen belly is my biggest concern. Why would it do that again even though she just finished her medication. Could she be having a relapse? Unfortunately, we are a humble family and cannot afford $400 vet bills. I am concerned and sad and any advice or information would be appreciated! Thank you!
