9473629 tn?1403996621 Other doctors insist their patients see a pain management doctor for treatment of chronic pain. Are there any plans in place by any doctor as to what to do for your pain? I just feel like there's a piece missing here.
Avatar f tn My own personal experience has been that narcotics have not provided much help with joint pain, unless maybe if the dose is high enough to be blunting your awareness in general. I've lived with severe chronic spinal pain for 30 years now, had a transfusion during spinal surgery in 1984, developed severe joint pain in 1986 that eventually led to my HCV diagnosis, and have had cirrhosis since 2005.
667913 tn?1242700488 Temgesic (sub) is the European communities form of pain relief RX - - didnt touch my pain so I wasnt interested in it. Not available in US for pain relief......only allowed to be prescribed for opiate abuse. Dont think its too good for prn pain - the stuff is so goofy with pharmacology and half lives that you would have to take it a day and a half before sceduled headache.......but you would be good to go for rebound headache!!! You might find that methadone is better for your purposes........
Avatar f tn I hope everyone had a great holiday. Ours was wonderful. I am also feeling a lot better. I have been switched to Oxycontin 10mg. These seem to be helping a great deal. Yesterday, I went ALL DAY and didn't have to take anything in addition to keep the pain under control. My Dr told me to take the percocet for breakthrough pain and I am still taking Lyrica 150mg three times a day.
Avatar f tn You can have a GP put you on these medications with out a diagnosis. Narcotics do not work as well on MS pain. My MS specialist sent me to a pain clinic.
Avatar f tn Originally it began as lower back pain which i have had 3 steroid injections with minimal relief and then 2 facet blocks with moderate relief. I was also taking 2 5/325 percocets per day with adequate relief. I am a Mom of a 5 year old and am not looking for an addiction problem on top of my pain problems. Over the course of a year, the pain has progressed to my hands and feet and knees. They feel very sore with minimal exertion.
Avatar n tn I checked online and it says that LYRICA is indicated to treat Diabetic Nerve Pain, Pain after Shingles, and Fibromyalgia. I would be honest with your doctor and let him/her know the LYRICA is not helping and you would like to try something else. With most PM doctors you have to try all the non-narcotics and anti-inflammatory drugs before they give you anything else. I would try and be open minded and try everything they offer. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I have had ddd for 20 years. It is progressively getting worse. I use ice and hear etc for flare ups of pain. My dr refuses to prescribe any narcotics at all. I've been to two Drs. It's so rediculous!
Avatar m tn ve had 5 back surgeries which resulted in failed back surgeries syndrome and narcotics because I have severe nerve pain, a double fusion in my lower back which caused more pain and nerve pain down the leg. I excessive daily and push thru the pain. I m only 57 but have been on pain pills since 2006 pretty steady. I want off of them. I am in pain management and I don't Budd them but the pain is unbearable ruining my sleep and now I am on a Cpap machine.
Avatar f tn If you need the narcotics/opiates for pain then talk to your doc about safe types of pain relief and a safe dose. Some docs are fine with certain narcotics for chronic pain in preg, others are not. It just depends on you and your history as well as your pregnancy. I've never seen a doc prescribe a narcotic to mom and the baby be born addicted. Likely because the use of it calculated and its used with other pain relief tactics.
Avatar f tn Lido derm patches. I was on huge doses of most narcotics but got very little relief from the CRPS/ rsd pain. I've got some relief from nortriptyline. I tried PT & OT & other procedures but no relief from them either.
Avatar m tn I have concluded that many here are not in pain and took/take narcotics solely to get high. Otherwise pain relief would be of a much higher concern. A narcotic is effective for many pain types, thus it is the easiest to prescribe. It seems like many of the non narcotics are more specific to the type of pain, so it take more work figuring out the right med/dosage.
773646 tn?1239225659 Hi to all - w/ greetings to my friend Khiba - I have tried Lyrica and had a reaction of involuntary jerking. I didn't have tremendous results with neurontin, but it did help at high doses. I'm currently involved in the vicious trap of narcotics, but have MS as well as Sys. Sclerosis so have joint pain that's really bad on top of the MS pain. Also osteoporosis and spinal problems causing pain.
Avatar f tn I was given flexeril and tramadol for muscle spasms due to herniated discs. The tramadol did nothing for the pain, I was able to receive some relief from motrin instead. I can't take stronger opioids because they make me nauseous. Morphine doesn't work for me either. Are the two medications related?
Avatar m tn If only they were prescribed more freely, many people who are suffering from chronic pain can get the relief they really need. What are common long-term pain killers recommended for chronic pain? It's a shame that I have to suffer at such a young age as mine.
Avatar m tn A few days ago, I decided I was in too much physical pain and started researching non-narcotic pain killers. My pain doctor prescribed Lyrica about a year ago, but I wanted to stick to my Hydro/Tram/Benzo cocktail at that time. Also, when I received my venomous bite that also sliced through my hand breaking it and slicing through nerves and tendons, the hand specialist recommended Lyrica. I actually tried it a few days ago and it it awesome at just 50 MG 2 times a day.
1754908 tn?1312400362 You really should talk to your doctor about this. I'm sure doctors prescribe narcs all the time for your condition but please please be careful. I have a degenerative back condition as well as osteoarthritis and all I can say is careful what you wish for.. I did get prescribed opiates for pain relief and at first I was like you - wow! this is amazing!! What a God send!! Then months later I found myself addicted. By the time I realized my problem I was in too deep.
Avatar f tn I have 2 buldging discs that are causing cord compression, and impinging on he nerves @ c3c4 and c4c5. I will have to have surgery again when I can no longer stand the pain or when the cord compression. Here's my question: Having been on narcotics for the last several years, I have developed the side effect of severe itching after being on them for a while. This has happened with Demerol, Diluidid,Darvocet,Hydrocodone and Tramadol.
Avatar f tn Hi. A few years back I was diagnosed with cancer in my lymph nodes. The lymph nodes that were swollen we're more towards my back and stomach. Thank God that I am well now but one effect that stuck with me was horrible back pain. This has been bothering me for all most a full year now and just now I'm going to my doctor because this pain is interfering with my daily life. I can't sleep, sit, or stand still for long periods of time.
1184961 tn?1292574076 I have spinal stenosis & previously had lumbar laminectomy w/fusion in 2006. I currently have rods & 6 screws in place. two of the screws are broken. I went to a surgeon, different from the original one (due to insurance reasons),and he won't do anything because there's no way to know if the broken screws are the cause of the pain or not. I refuse to take anymore narcotics. I'm tired of living my life in a fog. And I'm tired of being in pain.
Avatar f tn I have found that Valium added with the Percocet I take increases the pain relief that I experience. Since you got some relief from the Percocet, staying on the Percocet with Xanax could provide even more pain relief than just with Xanax alone. Also, I wanted to mention that Ativan is a lot more potent than Xanax. I was prescribed Ativan to help with Tramadol withdrawal as I needed to get off of that medication as it stopped working.
Avatar m tn I am open with my records and have never failed a drug screen, but my state narcotics registry does show narcotics being prescribed, from PM and then during times of surgery or a procedure that required it. I don't doctor shop, I use the same pharmacy (unless my regular pharmacy doesn't have the medication available) and don't partake in street drugs or seek out pills from illegal sources. What do I do? I am at a loss......
