This is my first posting on this forum.
My neck pain has become much worse with time. I initially had a pinched nerve and then the pain started in my neck and went down my arm. I feel fine when I hold my arm over my head.
I got x-rays and MRI done at OrthoTexas. The doctors over there said I have cervical neck pain and it needs to be treated asap.
I am looking for a second opinion. Please help.
I was serious scared to death about going via my throat but it made sense when I checked how its done. I was only in pain right after the surgery but they drugged me good, gave me good drugs for home, went home next day. I couldn't lift or do much of anything and NO PC was the biggest !!! Just veg'd and watched ER and other shows. Being a work-a-holic most of my life, it was fun smelling the roses. I was amazed.
It occurred 7 years ago, and am still recovering. The pain from my neck to my finger tips can be terrible on some days. Fortunately, the surgery itself was not invasive. Small cut at the neck line, that is barely noticeable now. Recovery wasn't bad either, except for the pain in the arm. The surgeon did tell me, and continues to tell me, "it was nothing he did!" Thus, I don't know what happened! ;-( Drill the doctor with as many questions as you can.
I had it done and it is amazing how much it has helped. Gone from taking megadoses of pain killers for the neck and shoulder/back pain to letting my almost full bottle of pain killers expire. The nerves do grow back but hopefully the protrusion has receded enough to not be afecting the spine/nerves.
ALSO, found that this pain is not uncommon for those bending down to read the computer screen for hours on end.

About 3 or 4 days ago I started getting pain starting on both sides of my neck, starting at my jaw line. It radiates down and into my shoulders. It's a kind of burning pain. Don't take any medications. When it happens it lasts a few minutes then stops but usually starts again right away, then stops totally.
Without medication pain level is above 10, after medication pain level is 9. My pain is so severe that it appears to lock the turning of my neck to the right. I am asking for any help regarding if there is exercises for this type of problem. My mornings after waking are the worse for me. I have been sleeping with 2 pillows under my legs, flat on my back, and 1 pillow under my head but this doesn't seem to be helping either. Is there any help for me?
And I heard and felt a pop I been in pain ever since.My neck hurts so bad cry alot,the pain is in the bottom of my neck and across my shoulders,my arms hurt I have headaches all the time,it has me so depressed I thought like taking my life to end it all.They did 2 mri's of my c-spine and my t-spine and they say nothings wrong,I konw there is something wrong because I live in pain everyday.Pease help me because no one else will.

I have been suffering from constant head/neck pain for over 10 years. The pain begins behind the ear, right side above the base of the skull. It radiates down the spine below the shoulder blades. I have had the following treatments: cervical spine fusion c5/c6 due to rupture disk, botox injections to the head, neurostimulater implant 4 yrs then removed, steroid injections, and taken huge quantities of narcotic pain relievers.
My doctor, Neurosurgeon and orthosurgen have said surgery is my only option and they feel that it most likely will not help my neck pain. The hope is to releive the shoulder and arm pain and perhaps the muscles will relax.
1. What do you think my chances are that my sever neck pain will reduce and my mobility will return?
2. Is there something I can take for the pain? I don't want any narcotics as I can't function.
3. What is the general recovery time for returning to work?
I have had neck surgery and had 3 herniated disc with my spinal cord compressed 3/4 of the way off. Should you have a MRI done if it has been 9 years? I wake up with my hands numb and pain in my neck from time to time. I have alot of spasticity from my injury and I can't relax. My muscules stay working all the time with no relax time. I'm tired almost all the time from this. I also had some bone spurs that they said I still have.
I so wish there was, but Neurologists and Nuerosurgeons I have spoke with so little is known about OPLL. I have it from c2-c4. I had surgery about 15 months ago because the OPLL was causing compression on my spinal cord. The surgery was called Laminoplasty. The surgery basically gave me a little more room in my spinal column so the spinal cord wasn't being compressed. The surgery was done on the back of my neck.
I have alot of neck pain it also goes into the base of my head and across my shoulders. I had an xray & the report reads- slight reversal of normal lordotic curvature. Degenerative disk narrowing and end-plate osteophyte formation C4-C5, C5-C6.No obvious frature or subluxation. What does this mean. What options are there. I've done P.T. and Chro. not much help. My neck has continued to give me problems. I wake in night and in the am, I can not turn my head.
A van side swipped her mini-van and cause some severe neck damage. This damage cause constant pain in her neck, migrains, and some numbness. The treatment they prescribed was getting cold injections to the nerves in neck and head. She received three treatments over the past year with some short term relief of pain but always come back. Beside this treatment she been doing a routine of physiotherapy, deep tisse massage, water therapy with some relief but not enough.
I had a ACDF (C5-C7) two years ago. I have been in constant pain since the surgery. I have pain in both of my arms and weakness in both hands.My neck and shoulders hurt and I have terrible headaches everyday. I have been seeing a pain management doctor for a year and a half. I've had several epidural injections, nerve blocks, PT and I am on Duragesic patches 100mcg and Oxycontin, and I'm still in unbearable pain.
There is a certain type of PT that many benefit from with neck and back pain - but costly if you dont have insurance. People with blown out discs even see good results so its worth looking into.
Regular PT is not that great. The neck and back machine that works like no other is called Med -X. Goggle it. These machines are patented so no other brand will do what these do. Maybe contact the company to find out what PT clinic close to you has this particular machine.
Have had neck pain after accident recent MRI C3-C4 minimal disc bulging,C4-C5 minimal disc bulging,mild bi-lat foraminal stenosis,C5-C6mild facet disease left greater than right,moderate left foraminal stenosis,C6-C7 minimal disc bulging,C7-T1 minimal disc bulging. Impression mild bilateral C4-C5 foraminal stenosis,Moderate left C5-C6 foraminal stenosis.
325 mg. to help control the pain until my surgery date. That helped me a lot with the pain and the headaches. I could not have made it through waiting for my surgery with out it. He also gave me Ibuprophen pain patches for my neck that helped.
Not sure if this helps you any but I would ask your surgeon about it.
