pacemaker

Avatar f tn I'm wondering what actually limits the size of the pacemaker? Is it the battery size? I often wonder why a more biological connected pacemaker hasn't been developed yet. A tiny circuit on the heart which uses the origin of the signal in the right atrium, then uses delay circuits and switches to allow current to pass through to different parts of the heart. No battery, just components using resistance etc.
Avatar n tn You was probably born with this defect and nothing can be done to correct it unless you have a pacemaker but there would have to be a concerned delay in the left ventricle for this. You are at greater risk of needing a pacemaker at some time with this condition and It's not really dangerous.
679744 tn?1226618915 I had a pacemaker implanted in June of 2001 for a disease called Sick Sinus Syndrome. The pacemaker took care of all the issues I was going through at first, but over the past few years the symptoms are returning. The PVC's are becoming extreme. I have started passing out again, and I feel exhausted. I am 31 years old, and I am really getting concerned. My father died at age 32 from a massive heart attack, and my mother has the same condition I have been diagnosed with.
Avatar n tn now this week he lost another 6lbs and has developed wandering pacemaker...his hemotologist has given him 2 bags of iron so with 3 more to come...why is all this happening? is this the beginning of the end ?
Avatar n tn my mother had a stroke 10 years ago and had a pacemaker put in as a result of low blood pressure.she recently had her pacemaker check-up(annually) and they put her on morphine(4 days) even though she is in no pain.
Avatar n tn P (first bump), QRS (the different parts of the highest peaking wave), and T waves (right after the QRS). Right before the P wave happens, the atria contract due to the sinoatrial node ("pacemaker") in your heart, which is a bundle of nerves stimulating the heart to beat. It's potentially something going on with that as well. I'd discuss this with your doctor to find out exactly what is going on and what to be concerned about.
Avatar f tn Hi, You're likely not "doing this to yourself", but yes, negative emotions (anxiety, stress, depression) are likely to increase the frequency of "skipped" beats (premature heart beats, PACs or PVCs). You need to remember that premature beats are normal. Everyone have them, and we notice them more or less. Some of us are blissfully unaware of what their hearts are doing, some of us freak out every time we feel a little skip or chest discomfort.
Avatar n tn It looks like that the second lead is not in use at all. The 2 parts of your heart synchronise well together . Also, your pacemaker is correcting your heart rhythm 12% of time depending of your effort?" Me : What is that? I have been told that my pacemaker will fire only below 45? Pacemaker Technician : We can ask the cardiologist a permission to set it off if you want? Me : (a bit angry) It is ok, I think I will take an appointment with her personally. 4 weeks later...
Avatar n tn Please can someone explain why a patient with a pacemaker kept her paced rhythm of 70 bpm with a fever 39.3 to 40 degrees C? I thought pacemakers could vary the rate to meet metabolic requirements. Thank you.
512694 tn?1216161406 For years now I have been dealing with autonomic dysfunction. I have a cardiac pacemaker and a Gastric pacemaker. As one thing at a time gets attacked. The latest is I get tingling in my legs and arms/hands. I as of about 8 months ago have extremely painfull legs. It almost feels like I'm just walking on bones. Extreme pain in feet, ankles, legs, and knees sometimes hips and low back. I'm so scared it's going to spread to other parts of my body.
Avatar m tn For third-degree heart block, anticholinergics or sympathomimetics may be prescribed temporarily while a temporary pacemaker is inserted followed by placement of a permanent pacemakerock. First-degree heart block requires no treatment. Exercise or drug treatment that decreases vagal tone (anticholinergics) may reverse Mobitz type I, butTreatment depends on the type of block. First-degree heart block requires no treatment.
Avatar f tn I do not have any of the above mentioned explanations but I do experience deep thigh cramps frequently three or four times a night in different parts of the muscle. I am 73 years old and have a pacemaker due to Afib. The only meds I take are a blood thinner and Nexium. My cramps occur after sitting and while sleeping.
Avatar m tn If I were you I would definitely research the condition before putting in a pacemaker. If you are only at level one WebMd indicates that a pacemaker is not needed. It would however, be important for you to go to your yearly checkup to ensure you do not develop a heart rhythm problem like afib. Being that you are healthy, in shape and not having much symptoms research how having a pacemaker would affect your life. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Normally an electrical impulse is generated with the sinus node (normal pacemaker) in the right atrium and the EKG indicates your sinus rhythm is normal. The impulse transmission is normally down a pathway of the wall (septum) that separates the left and right side of the heart termed right bundle branch for the pathways to right side and the left bundle branch for the left side..

Avatar n tn To understand gastroparesis, you first must understand how the stomach functions. The stomach has two parts. The upper portion is called the fundus which is where swallowed food and liquid collect. The lower portion is called the antrum. This is the stomach grinder. It is where food is churned back and forth until it is broken into small fragments and then squirted out into the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine.
Avatar f tn My internist got the results back today and said that I am having heart beats in parts of the heart muscle that I shouldn't. He refer me to a Cardiologist. What do these results mean?
Avatar f tn The pacemaker itself should not be a deterent from having an ablation. I've had a pacemaker for 6 years (because of an ablation actually), and then had another ablation about a year ago. Unfortunately, the ablations don't work for me, but I have IST, not SVT so hopefully they're more effective for that.
Avatar f tn My pacemaker battery had been dead for over a year and a half, and I just now was told that the pacemaker will have to be removed because it can damage the heart if it doesn't have a battery. Is this true? Incidentally, my pacemaker had not been activated for several years, as it was set for the minimum and didn't ever have to kick in.
Avatar f tn I have had numerous surgeries including the Fontan in 1987 with a revision of the Fontan in 2006, where at that time I also had a Medtronic Enrhythym Pacemaker install. 3 weeks ago I had a Pacemaker replacement due to the fact my battery on my Pacemaker was running low. The new Pacemaker installed is a Medtronic Adapta. Since the new pacemaker my Heart beat has been all over the place. My 1st Enrhythym was paced at 80 bpm, and it pretty much stayed like that for 5.
Avatar n tn i had 3 open heart surgery and on my 2nd. pacemaker.. my first pacemaker last me for 18yrs. and just got my 2nd. pacemaker Dec.2006.. my pacemaker was implanted in my upper chest on the right side.. only thing i hate the surgery doctor told me he would use the same cut as the other pacemaker but when i woke up he cut me in another spot.. well i can say.. ask your doctor his he using the same cut as the first pacemaker was in..
Avatar f tn Do you have a pacemaker? The best is to check with your doctor or pacemaker technician. I don't know what can it cause the heart functioning abnormality if you have the inverted T waves? Anyone knows? It also depends if you're a pacemaker dependent or not. I'm not a pacemaker depend. I go well with the equipment which marks "Pacemaker user caution". If I found my heart beats abnormally, then I stop using it and try again after the heart settle.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm sorry about your mom. Its my understanding that they don't "stop" the pacemaker, Nature takes it course regardless of the pacemaker. I went through this with my mom.
Avatar n tn My normal pulse rate with out pacemaker is 54 ppm. My dual lead pacemaker is set at 70 ppm, some people with pacemakers have the pacemaker rate set below their normal heart Resting rate Ex. normal rate 50 ppm Pacemaker set at 45 ppm. What determines the optimun pulse rate for the pacemaker? My Doctor is willing to set it at any rrrrrrrrrrate I choose. I am 86 years old in good physical shape, play tennis do nautilis and swim several times a week.
Avatar n tn I don't believe a pacemaker is used to control AFib. Perhaps your father has other heart problems. The most common use for a pacemaker is to keep the heart from beating too slow, or stopping. Some times a PM is used when the heart electrical system has to be totally shut down, in which case there would be no AFib or other arrhythmia, but this is not done to my knowledge, to control AFib.
