Avatar n tn Life Vest would likely be more effective for treatment of these lethal rhythms but you mentioned that there is no history of defibrillator shocks (i.e no history of lethal rhythms or no history of lethal rhythms long enough to warrant therapy). Amiodarone have frequent side effects, most (but not all) are associated with long term use. Obviously it is not a case with using LifeVest. On the other hand you mentioned that biventricular pacemaker helps for ‘irregular beats’.
Avatar m tn now have a pacemaker set for 60bpm. Medication is flecanaide with the idea of reducing the HR so the pacemaker controls the rate. After 3 years being OK I am now getting rapid heart rate at night & sometimes during the day wirh a subsequent feeling of exhaustion. I also have light headed spells. Should I be worried?
Avatar m tn This is probably a weird question for the ages! Last week, I had a pacemaker removed because the wound was irritated. The pacemaker was replaced, the pacemaker pocket in the doctor's words "washed out" and the incision closed with steri strips. A few days later, my incision started leaking a golden liquid that I immediately recognized as Betadine or similar. About a week after the surgery, I'm sick. I'm running a low fever, headache, and feel horrible.
Avatar m tn Renal failure patient since 2001 having thrice a week dialysis developed hyperparathyroidism with PTH at around 5000 which improved to 2000 by use of cinacalcid, had complete heart block this feb (bradycardia) and pacemaker was implanted. His EF is good 55% although RV function is poor.
Avatar f tn Just to add, yes it could very easily have been the pacemaker. A wire could have detached from the heart or the pacemaker may have needed adjustment. In rare cases a pacemaker may develop a fault, all of which a proper checkup should have detected.
Avatar m tn I have been under a great amount of stress this last month with work. I do have a family history heart problems. My father has a severe heart issue with this very problem (skips and to many) and has a pacemaker. How worried should I be?
Avatar f tn The recommendation for a pacemaker is *never* lightly made, and--unless you are an exceptionally trained athlete--your heart rate was in fact too low. Ordinary people do not faint from dehydration, but they do faint when their blood pressure gets too low to keep them conscious, and that happens when the heart rate is too slow to send oxygen-carrying blood to the brain. Do not kid yourself about this.
Avatar n tn I'm a 24 year old female with a very long history of severe SVT. I take verapamil 120 tds and flecainide 50 bd and this mostly controls it after years of having virtually no control. I have refused ablation many times (the idea terrifies me). I also have mild LVH. Recently I've been passing out, a couple of times from standing and a couple of times whilst lying down. My boyfriend is a doctor, he says my pulse is pausing and going very weak when I'm out.
Avatar f tn Yes I have had afib episodes. I have a medtronic pacemaker and Defrib unit. Been in there since Sept08. The pacemaker seems to really regulate the heart. Have not had any since.
781550 tn?1236029747 Afte my pacemaker was replaced, I am unable to drive or even ride in a rough vehicle such as a light truck or van. I can only drive about in well sprung vehicles with a soft ride. After driving a HiLux Toyota utility vehicle the angina pain was so severe I had a heart attack. A neighbor drove me to church in his utility and I spent ages after with angina.
Avatar m tn But even with the pacemaker and oxygen, she is only able to move around the house a small amount. I am wondering how much less she will be able to do once the battery ceases to function. Will she still be able to move about the house or will she be more tired than she is already?
Avatar f tn Don't be scared. The pacemaker is a great choice. Your heart has a problem with it's built in pacemaker, and to rectify this, the fitted pacemaker will over ride it. Once this is done, and your heart rate increased and stable, they can then start an investigation to the cause of this problem. It can just occur due to age, or they may find another reason such as artery disease or an infection that has damaged the pakemaker in your heart.
Avatar f tn 15 minutes into the test, I passed out and my heart rate was 38 with b/p of 64/28, I was told the top chambers of my heart stopped functioning. I have family history of sudden death, maternal grandparents, maternal aunt and two uncles but my mother is fine. I also have lupus and don't want to go on a variety of medications. Would a pacemaker be a good solution for my case?
Avatar f tn Dear Shabna, The reason that there are 2 incisions for the pacemaker placement is that your child is an infant, which means that the pacemaker is an epicardial pacemaker system. This means that the pacemaker leads have to be attached to the outside of the heart, and this is separate from the placement of the pacemaker generator in the abdomen. Your father, as an adult with large blood vessels, has a transvenous pacemaker system.
Avatar n tn Judy, I have a history of diabetes, plus other heart issues, and fought the idea of a Pacemaker, which kenkeith and I believe you are referencing. I feel much better, my heart is much healthier since accepting a pacemaker, and am kicking myself for fighting it. I'm betting the doctor is trying to save your father's life. I'm also what is called a volunteer Navigator in the cardiac wing of a trauma hospital, and I see how much better people do after getting a pacemaker.
Avatar m tn Due to extensive ablations, there is a 10% chance I will get complete heart block and will need a pacemaker. The pacemaker will protect me from lower heart rate, but will not prevent tachycardia. I have 2 types of pacemaker to choose from: standard or integrated with auto-defib 2. Medication a. My current medication dosage has acceptable side effect, but over time when its dosages increase or when more aggressive medication is needed, it may not be tolerable. b.
1866508 tn?1333984613 Well the present finds me 3 weeks out from a surgery to implant a pacemaker/defibrillator, another blood clot in my left ankle and on pain meds but wanting off. I was cutoff by my pain management doc when i went in and was honest with them about what I was taking....real professional move.....so I am back at my family doc prescribing some norco's for me but no where near what I am currently using.
Avatar f tn I have a medtronic pacemaker, battery change next year, but can low blood pressure be due to low battery, also had stent put in august, 90% lad clogged. I have the pacer that's not defublator, pressure drops to low kicks in. I have been feeling dizzy tired no appetite, nauseated, but have to eat because of meds have to take. I am having pain in my chest and kind of short of breath.
Avatar f tn s own pacemaker does not work. Would I be out of line to ask them for a pacemaker replacement instead of just having more checks?
Avatar f tn This would be a good question for your cardiologist but my guess is. . . that unless your heart simply can't beat at all without a pacemaker, you'll be fine. Most people get the pacemaker because their heart rate is too slow. But slow (say the 30's or 40's) isn't the same as stopped. So you can survive those few minutes while they unplug one unit and connect the leads to the new unit. My Dad had his replaced and he was in and out in an hour or so.
Avatar m tn My wife has Lymes. With a history of bowl problems her whole life. Question is, she is on alot of pain and other meds which has seemed to has bascally put her colon asleep.
