Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker types

pacemaker

Avatar n tn I ended up having every type of SVT except Wolf H Syndrome. My cardiologist was scared he would have to put a pacemaker in at the time and wants to go back in for another ablation 3-d mapping in 3 mths. My questions are: 1. Is it normal or common to have more than one type of SVT? 2. If I ended up with a pacemaker could I have more children? 3. What would the risk of future pregnancies be with and without the pacemaker??
Avatar n tn im 19 year old and i go for a pacemaker on the 27th of this month and i was wondering what the possability is of my body rejecting the pace maker as my body has rejected my belly button piercing and etc, and if my body does reject the pacemaker what are the possible things that could happen, other than my complete hear block and am healthy
Avatar m tn I do not believe a pacemaker in-and-of-itself can cause a change in personality. However, the fact that one needs a pacemaker may be depressing emotionally and also cause anxiety. I am only 75 (compared to 91) and I know dealing with aging is difficult at best... I men when one feels "good" as can be expected (of course less than desired). You may want to try a post on Senior Health or on Anxiety.
Avatar m tn Not only did the dose not slow her heart rate significantly, but a 24 hour heart monitor disclosed that the drug was causing pauses in her heart beat. Her doctor has recommended a pacemaker to pick up the missed beats and a higher dosage of the drug to slow her heart rate adequately. 1) What is the (approximate) success rate for this treatment? 2) Is this a reasonable next step? 3) Depending on results, is ablation a possible next step?
Avatar m tn m 58 years old, had a pacemaker inplanted in Jan 2010. Doc put me on Xanax for anxiety and I have just recently tapered down until I took my last dose last Saturday night. I'm doing okay except I am having some pretty severe muscle spasms in the area surrounding my pacemaker. Has anybody else experienced anything like this? I can't sleep or relax because all of a sudden out of nowhere BAM a muscle spasm. And they certainly get your attention in the chest area.
Avatar n tn 5 is a gene that encompasses a specific set of mutations that has been found to be occasionally associated with several types of structural and functional cardiac defects. These include atrial septal defects, pulmonary stenosis, ventricular septal defect, tetralogy of Fallot, Ebstein’s anomaly of the tricuspid valve, and, as in your family’s case, progressive atrioventricular block.
Avatar n tn Please include average ionizing radiation exposure and identify the latest types of equipment and how well it/they work - and in comparison to older procedures/methods/equipment. It sounds like some patients are less well after the procedure than before the procedure. Are there national efforts to collect data on patient outcomes so that risks can continue to be lowered and outcomes can improve and be uniform?
Avatar n tn Tachycardia is a rate that exceeds what is considered normal. You can have different types of tachycardia depending on where the rhythm is originating from. The normal pace maker of the heart is the sinus node and normal for it is between 60-100 bpm. So >100 = tachycardia.
Avatar n tn That treatment may include a Pacemaker (PM). How invasive is this surgery? Is it as bad as and Open Heart ByPass? I need information. Can anyone help us?
Avatar f tn My husband had a pacemaker placed three months ago. It was discovered that he had two holes in the septum of his heart and they had been there since conception. We have a passion for biking, kayaking, dancing love to active. Then this...He has had open heart to close the holes and several procedures after due to racing of the heart rate..Nothing worked so in went the pacemaker...
Avatar f tn Thanks for the response. My husband had open heart surgery for wpw which ended up severing all of whatever wpw patients have too many of, thereby necessitating a pacemaker. My husband's pacemaker requires 2 leads (and I had thought all pacemakers did). I also understand leads can't be removed. So when 1 of the originals failed, a 3rd was installed. Now the 2nd original is failing. Even though the pacemaker is a rate-adaptive type, it's not speeding up his heart on exercise.
Avatar n tn I am 61. I had a pacemaker implanted years ago and had an AVJ ablation 18 mo ago to which destroyed the AV node leaving me pacer dependent. Because I already had the pacer, I did not have to have that implanted. the same will probably be true for your father. I have AFib and the boatload of meds I was taking could not hold it in check. So I had the AVJ... I have not regretted once.
Avatar f tn EMG testing is extremely safe, but talk with your doctor if you take blood thinners, have a pacemaker or implanted defibrillator before having the test. No special preparation is needed for people who have a hip, knee or other joint replacement prosthesis. If you are taking anticoagulation medications (blood thinners) or have a pacemaker or implanted defibrillator, you should notify their doctor before having the test.
Avatar m tn I'm feeling some depression coming on, my doc told me today that I need a pacemaker. I'm 67, been weight training all my life and now doc says it must be very limited. I didn't limit my training even after both shoulders were replaced, although the max weight i use has decreased.
Avatar f tn I thought he died in front of me. He has CHF, biventricular failure, aortal backflow, a-fib and has a pacemaker w/ defibulator. I called 911 because I thought he was dying and figured his defib kicked in because after a minute he regained consciousness. I'm getting zero answers beyond "low blood pressure/orthostatic hypotension". But to me, OH would not cause the agonal respirations. WHY did he get this agnonal respirations and then came to?

Avatar m tn dilated, hypertrophic and restrictive. The overall goals of treatment for cardiomyopathy are: to manage your signs and symptoms, prevent your condition from worsening, and reduce your risk of complications. Treatment varies by which of the major types of cardiomyopathy you have. This includes medications, surgically implanted devices or, in severe cases, a heart transplant. Take care and keep us posted.
1400314 tn?1280731525 Hi mcalderon91723, If this were me, one of the things I'd like to know would be what terminated the 7.5 second pause? My understadning is that every cell in your heart can become a pacemaker. It's nature's wonderful backup system in case the regular pacemaker signal doesn't reach the ventricles. The noraml pacemaker is a group of cells in the atrium called the "sino atrial node" or SA node.
Avatar f tn t think it is typical for your sister to experience such extreme fatigue. Does she also have a pacemaker? She should let her doctor know that she is feeling very tired, even after a full night's sleep. Let us know how she is doing.
Avatar m tn The pacemaker will protect me from lower heart rate, but will not prevent tachycardia. I have 2 types of pacemaker to choose from: standard or integrated with auto-defib 2. Medication a. My current medication dosage has acceptable side effect, but over time when its dosages increase or when more aggressive medication is needed, it may not be tolerable. b. I will end up with pacemaker then.
Avatar m tn we however are concerned as we have read that type two second degree block is dangerous and can lead to heart attacks and a pacemaker should be inserted with these. Could you give us any reasons why he wasn't worried about her showing type 2 second degree heart block. She is 19 and worrying herself sick and her consultant is away just now and can't answer her question.
Avatar m tn t need a pacemaker but when I look this up it says pacemakers are required for this in most cases. I am 31 years old only and now very worried. I guess i want to know if there is anyone who has this and does not have a pacemaker. One other thing it says is an episode of wenckbach phenomena.
Avatar f tn heart pacemaker and now have muscle damage requiring close watch and future change in pacemaker; clonus movements from time to time; weakness in right arm and knees. Over the past 3 years, MS, ALS, Lyme's lupus, you name it has been ruled out. I will have a muscle biopsy at UVA on the 22nd. My neurologist is leaning toward a mitochondrial disorder, which is why he ordered the biopsy. The last EMG he did showed some abnormalities (in the past, it would always be normal).
