Avatar m tn I have no idea when I can return to work or to a normal life. I am going to see the Dr. again in 2 days. Does anyone know how long this takes to resolve? The pain is unbearble. It just got worse every day since the surgery. PLEASE any advice would be greatly apprciated.
Avatar f tn thanks so much for your comment- could you explain further how your response has been similar to mine-- do you have a pacemaker- if so how long ago did you get one- My incision looks very good- it is 1 month today- my mother died 6 weeks ago- she was a very horrible person to deal with - don't know if all these circumstances go together but can you tell me this crying will stop? Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn You said it takes longer to heal. What should I expect after surgery? My surgery had to be changed, it won't be Monday but definitely this coming week.
Avatar n tn This is very rare, occurring less than 1/1000 patients. Long term consequences include infection of the device or leads, requirement of long term follow up. It is generally a very well tolerated procedure and quite safe especially if performed by an electrophysiologist.
Avatar m tn After a (small) stroke conjectured to have been caused by atrial febrillation (accompanied by a heart rate of 160 (3x her normal rate)), my wife had a pacemaker implanted and is now on coumidin, digoxin, and metoprolol. In a brief phone conversation with her doctor, she asked how long she'd be on the coumidin. He responded, "forever.

Avatar f tn Definately NOT trying to scare you, trying to give you a heads up of how long it REALLY takes to get this **** out of your system. Also, it takes 3/4 days from your last dosage for real w/d to really kick in b/c of suboxones extremely long half life. You will have to ask him and MAKE HIM TELL YOU THE TRUTH as to how much and how long. It will do him NO GOOD to lie if he was using large amounts. See if you can get him to understand this.
Avatar f tn Sorry you haven't gotten any help, it may be the "generator repair" part is the problem. I do not recall ever reading anything about a "generator" in discussions about pacemakers. Are you sure you have the referral information correct? I'm sure the referral includes transfer of information doctor-to-doctor, so you should be safe regardless of your understanding. Good luck. Maybe my "bump" on your post will get a pacemaker experienced person to comment.
1331422 tn?1326566597 I got a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted the end of June. The surgery is only a couple of hours and they kept me overnight. I was a little sore but nothing like other surgeries I've had. I recovered extremely quickly. They say not to raise your arm for the first week, no lifting, pushing or pulling for 6 weeks, no jogging or cardio workout for 4-5 weeks. Pretty much the same restrictions as with any surgery except you have to be really careful not to pull the leads out of your heart.
Avatar n tn My mom is 52. She's had her pacemaker for 4 1/2 years now. Fractures, while rare, are fixable. the original plan was that hers was fractured. So the procedure would be to snip both ends, cap them and sew them down, and then implant the new lead in another spot close by. In that procedure you do not have to have open heart surgery. It's much like the original surgery where you get the pacemaker. They go in through the original scar site and fix everything and finish up.
Avatar f tn My husband has been totally reliant on a pacemaker since unsuccessful surgery for WPW 27 years ago. Recent nuclear testing shows CI although his pacemaker is rate-responsive. He's at the end of life of his 3rd battery. One failed lead was replaced 13 yrs ago and so 3 are in place. He now needs a 4th lead but has ongoing circulation issues from the space occupied by leads. Would a dual-sensor pacemaker be likely to help the CI? Would all models require 2 new leads instead of one?
Avatar m tn This may be seem long, but I have many questions. I will start from the beginning. While driving on a long trip, I experienced an "episode". My heart wasn't racing, vision was fine. I just did not feel right, so I pulled over into a gas station parking lot for about an hour. Still didn't feel "right" so I called the ER as I didn't feel comfortable driving. Doctors could not find anything wrong so they kept me for some tests.
Avatar n tn how long does it take for the wires to retract if they are left out post surgery?
17471205 tn?1456977307 This rate slowly kept declining and for the past 2 years prior to surgery 30 bpm was normal for me . On August 18th of 2015, I had a pacemaker implanted at the age of 26. Before this I had the shortness of breath, light headed, dizzy, major lack of energy, always tired, terrible chest pains. After my implant surgery I still get chest pains but not s often now. However, my dizziness and lightheadedness seems to be happening more intense now. Still get shortness of breath.
Avatar m tn But even with the pacemaker and oxygen, she is only able to move around the house a small amount. I am wondering how much less she will be able to do once the battery ceases to function. Will she still be able to move about the house or will she be more tired than she is already?
Avatar n tn Replacing the 2 wire pacemaker with the 3 wire pacemaker is a surgery. My mom had this done and it was more than she expected, so it would be wise to wait as your doctor recommended the 5 months.
Avatar f tn I had a pacemaker put in in mid-June (2009). It's on the left side. My left arm is swollen, tight and sore and really has been for the last 7 or 8 weeks. A dopler test revealed no blood clots. My electrophysiologist said sometimes (but not usually) it takes the other smaller veins a while to get the blood rerouted. He said since the test showed no blood clots, he's not particularly worried.
Avatar m tn Just wondering how much longer you do stay alive with the pacemaker?? It has to extend your life. As I see it, what are we extending??
2073485 tn?1331662298 I dont have a dual chamber, i have a single chamber pacemaker. If you dont mind me asking, how long has your daughter had a dual chamber for? I might be replacing mine to get a dual chamber, is it better? Thank you!
Avatar m tn d also ask what the doctor what s/he thinks the prognosis would be if your father-in-law does NOT have the surgery? How long does he think it would be before symptoms get worse? Overall, based on his experience with other patients of like age and state of health, how likely is it that your FIL could be kept comfortable if he chose not to have the surgery? Also, I'd ask if this was his FIL or his Dad, based on everything he knows, what would he advise him to do? My heart goes out to you.
Avatar m tn Hi Doctor, My bro aged 21 recently jus joined army force as regular, physical fit in average, not really stressful workout in camp as he's a military police. During 1 week ago, he went for full medical check up in camp & founded out by MO his HR is only 36/min. Immediately warded to hospital. 24hour EKG, worst result during resting was 26/min.
