pacemaker

2073485 tn?1331662298 I was reading around your site and thought I would tell you that CHD (congenital heart disease is very common with one in every one hundred children being born in this country suffers from some sort of heart condition. You are certainly not alone with a heart problem. Almost 95% of those children had surgeries and medicines to help cure and treat their heart conditions and go in to lead basically normal lives.
Avatar f tn My daughter was born with several heart defects.a pacemaker was implanted after surgery because she had complete heart-block. She thrived after her surgery and lived life to the fullest. On June 20,2009, when she was three and a half years old, she tragically fell to the ground. She was rushed to the hospital, but they were unsuccessful in reviving her.It was later determined at autopsy that her pacemaker lead had fractured. It was a Medtronic pacemaker. I have been in disbelief since then.
Avatar n tn That treatment may include a Pacemaker (PM). How invasive is this surgery? Is it as bad as and Open Heart ByPass? I need information. Can anyone help us?

Avatar f tn Now I have a 2 leads St Jude pacemaker. I also got 3 leads in my heart. The current pacemaker is number 4. It implanted in 2002. Not the new model require 2 leads. It depends how many leads that your husband needs. Oh, I rather say it depends your husband's EP choose how many leads for him! They're one lead, two leads. three leads and even four leads pacemaker in the market. Does your husband still has wpw? Was he had the open heart surgery for wpw?
Avatar n tn But the pacemaker might allow him to survive the surgery.....however implanting the pacemaker is a risk in itself! Quite a lot of older dogs go through surgery ok. But it depends on what surgery, and it depends on their overall condition for their age. I they are generally well, the risks are greatly lessened. It sounds as if he is in quite bad shape. In my opinion, the worst-case scenario would be that he didn't survive the surgery.
Avatar n tn Recently she traveled from Colorado to Montana and her heart rate dropped tremendously (29bpm). She was taken to the hospital in Bozeman, MT. After many tests they decided to put a pacemaker in. Ever since this surgery she has been Extremely tired constantly and unable to do her normal activities. Is this a normal side effect after this surgery? If so, is it expected to get better with time? Her check up appointment was scheduled for two months after the surgery.
Avatar n tn I had my first pacemaker in 1982. I had my first daughter in 1987 then the second in 1989. They both are healthy and study in the uni at the moment. My pacemaker implanted at the right upper chest wall, not tummy. I don't know if implanted at the tummy would affect the pregnancy or not. Chest wall won't. I have wpw, so SVT(AT) and AF are in that package. I also have my His bundle ablated in 1985. I got my natural conduction through the accessory pathway not AV node.
675084 tn?1233087505 good you ask me.. my pacemaker is set to 80beats and I'm 100% depend on my pacemaker.. i have a Medtronic this my 2nd. pacemaker... my first Medtronic pacemaker i had it for 18 yrs. until the doctor turn it down than it didn't work good.. had to get a new one.. in Dec. it will be 2yrs. i had my pacemaker check last week and i find out the doctor that put my pacemaker in didn't set my pacemaker for life depend.. Good news is now my pacemaker is set for it not to be ever turn off..
Avatar m tn I do not believe a pacemaker in-and-of-itself can cause a change in personality. However, the fact that one needs a pacemaker may be depressing emotionally and also cause anxiety. I am only 75 (compared to 91) and I know dealing with aging is difficult at best... I men when one feels "good" as can be expected (of course less than desired). You may want to try a post on Senior Health or on Anxiety.
Avatar f tn My mother had her pacemaker replaced in March 09 She went for a pacemaker check today. She has had arrhytmias the past several months so she has an appt next week to see her doc. What causes arrhytmias even when you have a pacemaker. Is this normal? Pacemakers are supposed to treat this, right?
Avatar m tn A PACEMAKER WAS IMPLANTED IN ME IN JAN. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD MODERATE TO SEVERE PAIN IN MY LEFT CHEST AREA. XRAYS SHOW NOTHING AND MY LUNGS ARE CLEAR. COULD THIS DISCOMFORT BE EMINTING FROM THE SCAR TISSUE RELATED FROM THE INSURATION AND IF SO IS THERE A SOLUTION?
Avatar f tn As far as experiences go, here is what happened to me. The surgery took about 1.5 hours and I stayed over night in the hospital. After the surgery, I was placed in a arm sling so that I was not attempted to raise my left arm above my head. I was in the sling for a week. I was told not to raise my arm above my shoulder level for another week. I could do mild exercise such as walking as soon as I was released from the hospital and was back to normal exercise in a month.
Avatar n tn So you have the pacemaker? Yes, the initial cardiologist URGED me to get a pacemaker, immediately, saying my heart could stop at any moment. This , has added to my stress and I have been monitoring my heart rate and watch it go to 30's. It is without symptoms, though I think sometimes I start to breath funny (because of fear) and feel a bit lightheaded, but then returns to normal.
539989 tn?1218832080 I had surgery six weeks ago to have a pacemaker put in. There were complications and the Dr. pierced my lung and a chest tube had to be inserted. I still have alot of pain from where the chest tube was and I have some numbness on the left side of my back, side and arm. My chest is still extremely tender from where my pacemaker was placed. I am wondering if this is all normal. My pacemaker scar is very bad looking as well.
Avatar n tn I'm curious. If you're having a pacemaker, how do you know there is an A-Fib? Do your pacemaker senses if A-Fib then it'll pace it out? Isn't it during A-Fib, the EKG will show "paced rhythm"? Why the ER doc told me, they can't tell what rhythm that I got during pacing. All he can tell "Paced rhythm"! Do you have 2 leads pacemaker or 1 lead pacemaker? Sorry for asking that, I want to learn my condition.
Avatar m tn I recently had a pacemaker installed due to heart block. Prior to the surgery I experienced no symptoms. No fatigue or lightheadedness, in fact I didn't even know there was a problem until the EKG. Since the surgery, I am so fatigued and have a pins and needles feeling in my head and neck. Last week I was told that the top portion of the pacemaker was not working, but that I didn't need it.
696415 tn?1228229959 I had an ASD repair when i was 16 in 1991. Ihave been on dozens of heart meds since. Ive been in and out of the hospital for atrial flutter, tachicardia, bradycardia, palpitations, and so on. I have had every test done there is. Finally at the age of 33 i had radio ablation done. This has helped alot but i still have eptopic beats and some flutters. You need to see a electrophsiologist and they can do something for you. I was also told i would need a pacemaker in the future....
Avatar f tn My blood tests showed I do not have SLE, but my son developed syncopal attack - 2 episodes in a week.next day of 2nd episode emergency permanent pacemaker was implanted. It is 8th day after the surgery and the child is doing well. My father also has pacemaker, but he has only one incision for the pacemaker, but my son has two incisions. Why is it so.My son is 7 months old. Operation notes read : Primary median sternotomy.thymus split. pericardial stays taken.
Avatar f tn Well maybe I had some pacemaker operating when I was in surgery, Of course don't know anything about what went on in there, thank god, the anesthesiologist kept me under the whole time. My surgeon/hospital was all for back on your feet and I was sitting up in a high back chair within a few hours after surgery. I had several catheters hanging out of me and was hooked up to heart monitoring equipment.
Avatar n tn //www.mayoclinic.com/health/biventricular-pacemaker/HB00084. Hope this help.
Avatar n tn As mentioned in my previous response, the recommended published consensus criteria for pacemaker placement is one of our best sources at this point for guidance on when to put in a pacemaker. The other source would simply be her symptoms, especially if they start to worsen.
Avatar f tn I just had a dual lead pacemaker put in 3 days ago to control accelerated junctional rhythm. The same night of surgery I had ajr of 135 it had overridden my pacemaker. I continue to have junctional rhythms and very rarely is my heart rate,at 85 which is what pacemaker is set at. I can't walk from one room to another without heart racing and out of breath. I feel horrible.. Will this get better as maybe my heart is irritated? I feel worse than. Before pacemaker.
Avatar f tn My grandmother had her pacemaker implanted 1 week ago. Is it normal for the area to be bruised, a purple color? She is also experiencing a burning sensation around the area. She is 84 years old and before she had the surgery she was able to walk fine and now she walks a little and she feels very tired and she says she feels like her heart is beating really fast and it might even come out.
Avatar n tn I am a 60 yo man with history of bypass surgery 5 years ago due to blocked LAD at bifurcation. Since then have been essentially asymptomatic even during frequent heavy exercise such as running and cycling. Resting pulse is in low 40's which is where it has been for years. During the last 6 months, I have had perhaps four occasions of dreaming that I cannot get a breath, like I had a severe cold. It did not wake me up. When I did awake, I was in no way congested.
