Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker surgery collapsed lung

pacemaker

539989 tn?1218832080 I had surgery six weeks ago to have a pacemaker put in. There were complications and the Dr. pierced my lung and a chest tube had to be inserted. I still have alot of pain from where the chest tube was and I have some numbness on the left side of my back, side and arm. My chest is still extremely tender from where my pacemaker was placed. I am wondering if this is all normal. My pacemaker scar is very bad looking as well.
Avatar f tn Next day I went to my primary doc and they did cat scan.. And they come back and say that my right lung had collapsed. I felt completely scared but so relived that they see what I have been complaining about for 2 years but they say it can't go on for 2 years.. So what is this pain I have been feeling 2 years then? They say it's spontaneous. Any ideas why I wo have this pain? It comes every month like clockwork. Sometimes a day sometimes a few weeks. I'm non smoker 5'3 and 115.
Avatar f tn My husband had a quad by-pass six years ago after a v-tach episode, heart cath, eco cardiogram, etc. Only complication was lung collapsed while in hosp but they inflated it again (not sure of proper term). They placed a defibrillator/pacemaker in before he left the hosp. It has been six years and it needs replaced due to a low battery --leads do not need replaced. The unit has not had to shockor pace since implanted which is good.

Avatar n tn When I breathe in it sounds like my lung is crackling. I had a collapsed lung about 6 months ago, and I have pain all over my chest, which I figured was from the lung surgery - but the crackling is strange. It is mainly on the side which had no collapsed lung, but sometimes in both. Thoughts?
Avatar f tn Im now 31 and just cant get it out of my head,it was my right lung that collapsed and it hurt all down my arm and back, itr was awful and i thought i was going to die!!! Do you know why this would happen to me? My family are all strong too, never any cancers or lung things before, now i heard that it could happen again, ohhh im so scared to go back in hospital and have that sharp thing put in my lung whilst awake, its cruel...
Avatar f tn What would cause an artery to collapse so quickly after surgery? They also told me I would feel so much better after the surgery but I don't. I am more short of breath now than I ever was before the surgery and less energy. They do not know why. Every stress test I have ever had either before or after the bypass has always come back excellent and I had one 6 mos before my bypass. I just want to be normal again.
Avatar m tn I actually still have all those symtoms, and it has been 3 1/2 years since i had my collapsed lung. The doctors ran all sorts of test and could not find anything. I had asthma before and still have it, they gave me an inhaler and didnt really help much at all. My spots from surgery hurt as well, and the hospital screwed up the first time and i never heard nothing about the surgery really, i would like to know more as well but they want me to pay for the information.

Avatar f tn I had abdominal surgery which all of the nerves were cut. It has been 3 yrs and I am in debilitating pain. Can anyone help???
Avatar n tn My mother-in-law, who will be 95 is April, was recently hospitalized has several episodes of arrhythmia at the hospital. the doctor recommends a pacemaker. What are the pros and cons of someone her age to have a pacemaker implanted?
Avatar f tn According to your CT, there was a tiny amount of air in the neck (subcutaneous emphysema) and a tiny pneumothorax (too tiny to treat, if it were large enough, docs would put a chest tube in to re expand the collapsed lung. Yours was very small and did not need it, it probably will go away on its own) This is the best I can do, if you have any more questions you should ask your doctor who is familiar with your case. I hope this helps...
Avatar n tn However, after the surgery she has still been kept on pacemaker as cardiologists said her heart rate is still on 48-55 per minute (which is quite slow). The cardiologists have suggested that if the heart rate does not return back to normal a permanent pacemaker maybe required. Can anyone please suggest whether to wait for the heart beat to be back to normal or go for the pacemaker. Thanks in advance for the help.
Avatar m tn These include pneumothorax (collapsed lung), hemothorax ( a collection of blood in the space between the chest wall and the lung , perforation of any of several viscous organs, bile peritonitis, infection (bacteremia, abscess, sepsis), hemobilia, neuralgia, and rare complications such as ventricular arrhythmia with transvenous biopsy.
Avatar n tn Hi, The breathing test will help establish what extent of surgery (if it would be an option) he could tolerate. Put another way - how much lung can we remove to allow adequate breathing after surgery? this would be the primary task of the lung power/capacity testing. The pet scan may help locate which area is more likely harboring cancer - since the previous scan simply showed - no definite nodule or mass. There are some technical issues with trying to biopsy a precarinal node.
Avatar f tn It sounds like a possible panic attack and not a collapsed lung. I've heard of this happening many times in other people that smoke marijuana, anxiety or panic attacks. It sounds like you're fine. If you keep having problems contact your Dr.
1569985 tn?1328247482 In hospital after lung surgery resulted in afib. TEE showed a clot, so cardioversion could not proceed. Staff cardiologist prescribing rate control drugs in the absence of my electrophysiologist. My doctor will be back tomoroow. Today, staff doctor mentioned an av node ablation and permanent pacemaker. I am not happy with that and feel like enough time has not been spent on rate control. I am hoping for a cardioversion after the clot resolves. Any input would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn Required extreem pain management post surgical and ended up with a collapsed lung. Found out I also now have a rt. frozen diaphram. Prior to this surgery I had an intrathecal pain pump implanted at the end of 2006 right below the rt. lung. The catheter for the pump was placed at the T8 level. It required a great deal to get it to fit in. Now with all that has happened I am not sure what specifically caused the frozen diaphram?
Avatar n tn had to be admitted to the main hospital for a collapsed lung, it was apparant that regular docs have no understanding of plastic surgery. I was at plano presby, a very large hospital & they seemed baffled by my collapsed lung & did not even know how to take care of me concerning the plastic surgry. For starters, the hospital staff sat me up & forward in the bed after I told them that my surgeon had told me NOT to bend my stomach. This caused my first problem.
Avatar m tn My Uncle who is 75, has had a Pacemaker for the last 5yrs, with no problems. However, in the last few days, he went to the local shop in the snow, with the temperature outside a few degrees below zero. After arriving home, he collapsed, but was oblivious to the fact when he came round. He was taken to hospital and given a good checking over, but nothing was found to be amiss. A couple of days later, he again fell over, resulting in a black eye and a cut nose.
Avatar f tn IN FEBUARY MY SON WOKE IN THE EARLY HOURS OF THE MORNING SCREAMING IN PAIN HOLDING HIS CHEST I TOOK HIM STRAIGHT TO THE HOSPITAL AND A XRAY SHOWED ANOTHER COLLAPSED LUNG IT WAS THE OPPOSITE LUNG THAT HAD COLLAPSED THIS TIME THE MIDDLE AND LOWER PART OF THE RIGHT LUNG. MY SON HAS BEEN TESTED FOR CYSTIC FIBROSIS AND HAS HAD A TB TEST BOTH CAME BACK NEGATIVE.THE PEDIATRITIONS HAVE SAID IT LOOKS LIKE ITS JUST DOWN TO HIS ASHTMA.
Avatar n tn I think this pain, being accompanied by lung symptoms especially with your low white blood cell count is probably related to a lung infection, or secondary infection of the retained pleural effusions. Another possibility is that this is pericarditis from injury to the pericardium during surgery or because of an autoimmune phenomenon seen occasionally post CABG called Dresler's syndrome.
Avatar m tn Will a pacemaker completely eliminate death as a result of a SA attack? I realize that the pacemaker itself is a fairly simple procedure, however, as I am only 38, I will definitely need replacement leads over time, and the risk factor of lead removal surgery has me quite frightened. Most of the data available for CCHB is either old or hard to find. It seems that pacing is suggested in nearly every case especially with increasing age.
Avatar f tn They have told me that my lung never collapsed, even though they had a disc with all the xrays taken at the other hospital and that it was the hydrothorax that caused my symptoms initially. They did not have the images of the xrays taken interstate at that time. I only have a letter from them that they wrote before they got ahold of the xray images from the interstate hospital. have been sent home.
1694368 tn?1306341988 my lung collapsed during surgery and I was wondering if that could be related or no? Or should I go see a doctor?
Avatar n tn I had a spontaneous pneumothorax about 2 months ago - chest tube in for 7 days, several recollapses, and finally VATS surgery and bleb resection. I still have pain on that side, which is expected, but about 1 month ago I started having intermittent pain on the right side. Lately it has been much worse, more frequent and aching. Could this happen on the other side, in such a short period of time? Doc said he thought he saw something suspicious on the other lung in the CT scan.
Avatar n tn Now she has Pneumonia, her Right Inferior Lung is collapsed, and she has a paralyzed diaphragm. What could have caused this? The doctor's say it is not from the surgery, but maybe from an underlying condition she already had. She's been 6 weeks and has not received an answer from the doctors as to specific treatment, or what may have caused it. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I had a pacemaker put in November 2010. It was the most horrifying experience I have ever gone through as the lidocaine had absolutely no effect and versed does not work on me so I had full feeling of surgery from the initial incision to the creation of the pocket into my muscle and placement of the pacemaker. My heart rate and blood pressure had been dropping to critical levels. A BP of 60/40 at night and a heart rate in the low to mid thirties was commonplace.
