Pacemaker surgery ablation

Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker surgery ablation

pacemaker

Avatar f tn The pacemaker itself should not be a deterent from having an ablation. I've had a pacemaker for 6 years (because of an ablation actually), and then had another ablation about a year ago. Unfortunately, the ablations don't work for me, but I have IST, not SVT so hopefully they're more effective for that.
Avatar f tn My 6 month check-up post surgery 24 hour Holter recording is 39,000 heart beats. The ablation was not successful. The cardiologist is indicating I may need a pacemaker. I can't seem to find information that explains how a pacemaker can manage PVCs. Can anyone point me to resources or help me understand how this works?
1078068 tn?1255906891 After each procedure I seem to get worse. Being cardioverted every 3 weeks. Had afib and after ablation now also get tachycardia. Low energy. Should I undergoe a full maze procedure (little confidence) or a pacemaker. My heart rate is usually low 40's when not in tachycardia. Would my ventrical beat keep me alive if pacemaker failed. Is this risky?
Avatar f tn I have heard that can happen with an avnrt ablation, the av node gets blocked and a pacemaker is needed. It is the biggest complication from that type of ablation but I have also heard that it can occur but once the heart settles down and maybe isn't swollen or something it goes away which is probably what your ep is hoping. I do hope that if this is the case with you that yours corrects itself. I think going in and out may be a good sign it will go away.
Avatar n tn I'm curious. If you're having a pacemaker, how do you know there is an A-Fib? Do your pacemaker senses if A-Fib then it'll pace it out? Isn't it during A-Fib, the EKG will show "paced rhythm"? Why the ER doc told me, they can't tell what rhythm that I got during pacing. All he can tell "Paced rhythm"! Do you have 2 leads pacemaker or 1 lead pacemaker? Sorry for asking that, I want to learn my condition.
Avatar f tn All surgeries have some risk, but I think catheter surgery (done with catheters through an artery) are among the lest dangerous. You didn't say why you are considering surgery. If the "problem" is minor you may want to consider living with it rather than take any risk. Talk it over with your doctor. The worst I've read that I think can be a bad outcome of sinus node surgery is the sinus node shuts down and one then has to have a pacemaker implanted.
Avatar m tn After the bypass surgery they found that the pacemaker was shorting out. Had it reinstalled 2 days later. Since the surgery I get periods when I am exerting myself where I run completely out of energy, can't take the next step. They have tried to find the problem with a half dozen different tests but it wasn't until the AFib running almost continuosly that I came to the conclusion that it was the cause of my weekness etc..
Avatar n tn That I could or could not take a beta blocker and wait until I was older to have an ablation. My husband and sister are both physicans, and althought not cardiologist, had many questions on his treatment and plan for me. I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks in August. I changed cardiologist and recently had an ablation and 3-D mapping. During the ablation the cardiologist had a hard time controling my heart rate and blood pressure.
Avatar n tn I had a pacemaker after an unsuccessful ablation for a-fib in April. I was in a-fib for about 6 months before the implantation. They tried a cardioversion but all thit did was give me a nice burn (like a REALLY GOOD sunburn) front and back where the electrodes were glued on. They tried an ablation but it got me back in normal sinus for a whole 3 days. Because my atria are too big (5.
Avatar f tn got the phone call today the doc is ptting pacemaker in this friday and im really creeped out..im sure ur surgery will b a success, dnt worry yourself what works for some may not work for others..im guessing i was one of those % that get the bone..
Avatar f tn t helping me), 2) increase the Metoprolol (which would have lots of side effects and make the pacemaker need to be used more; resulting in pacemaker surgery again since I only have one lead now since they couldn't get the second lead in the first time) or 3) ablation. I never knew of anyone who had ablation and the thought of it was extremely frightening. I go to see him again in two weeks to discuss what I would like to do.
Avatar m tn I have had an ablation surgery. I have had a- flutter surgery followed by a cardio version. I had a hard cough and have been in A-fib for 2days. I am taking Flecainide 100mg twice a day. What is the next step? I am 75 and in good health.
Avatar n tn Could you please post the latest on ablation treatments. Please include average ionizing radiation exposure and identify the latest types of equipment and how well it/they work - and in comparison to older procedures/methods/equipment. It sounds like some patients are less well after the procedure than before the procedure. Are there national efforts to collect data on patient outcomes so that risks can continue to be lowered and outcomes can improve and be uniform?
Avatar n tn That treatment may include a Pacemaker (PM). How invasive is this surgery? Is it as bad as and Open Heart ByPass? I need information. Can anyone help us?
Avatar f tn Now on flecanide and toprol but is it common to have an ablation when I also have a pacemaker? It was put in last March after a fainting spell.
Avatar m tn 21% required a follow up ablation. No one required a pacemaker afterwards. Sounds like good odds to me. If both your docs agree it's ablatable, I say go for that. Much better than relying on the spray and pray approach (meds).
Avatar f tn I have suffered from passing out since i gave birth to my first child when i was 20 and during my second pregnancy i was very poorly and had problems with the baby,I am currently taking beta blockers for the svt and will find out in july if i need the ablation surgery...
Avatar f tn I have long-standing, permanent afib which is pretty well controlled with cardiezem and digoxin, but several different doctors have recommended an av node ablation. I already have a pacemaker because the drugs caused dangerous pauses in my heart rate. Is there any advantage to the av node ablation? What effect would it have?
1331422 tn?1326566597 I got a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted the end of June. The surgery is only a couple of hours and they kept me overnight. I was a little sore but nothing like other surgeries I've had. I recovered extremely quickly. They say not to raise your arm for the first week, no lifting, pushing or pulling for 6 weeks, no jogging or cardio workout for 4-5 weeks. Pretty much the same restrictions as with any surgery except you have to be really careful not to pull the leads out of your heart.
Avatar f tn Is it any more likely that ablation of the slow pathway for AVNRT would increase the chance that I could develop higher degree heart block and need a pacemaker at some point after the surgery? I have read that heart block sometimes develops after ablation and can go away...since I already have first degree heart block I wonder if the procedure is more risky? (Btw, the heart block was detected on monitor after taking a calcium channel blocker for my bp...
Avatar f tn My mother had her pacemaker replaced in March 09 She went for a pacemaker check today. She has had arrhytmias the past several months so she has an appt next week to see her doc. What causes arrhytmias even when you have a pacemaker. Is this normal? Pacemakers are supposed to treat this, right?
Avatar m tn In 2013 I had an AV Node ablation. I am pacer dependent. In 2015 my pacemaker was upgraded to a Bi-V due to "pacemaker syndrome". Since that time I have periods of extremely irregular heartbeats. These can last up to 8 hours. Various medical professionals have checked my pulse during these periods and confirm what I already knew. I do not understand why the pacemaker does not prevent these periods of IHB.
1331422 tn?1326566597 Does an EP have to do an EP study and ablation or can they just look at the monitor readings and put a pacemaker in? Who does the pacemaker? An EP or cardiac surgeon? I hate to go through an EP study if it really isn't necessary. I'm very tired of feeling so bad and want to cut to the chase without waiting much longer. I'd much rather have a pacemaker than mess around with ablations that may or may not work.
Avatar n tn Has anyone ever encounterd this type of pain after pacemaker surgery, and if so, what was the cause and what did your doctor do to correct the problem? Thank you.
1712282 tn?1308440362 Only you can answer the question on what to do since its your body....however...i had an ablation done almost five years ago and still take a low dose beta blocker as a safety net...do i think its a good idea...you bet i do....why would we not take something that makes our hearts relax so that the rhythm issues don't pop up and no it doesn't mean that the ablation was a fail..i don't know what the percentages are of pts.
2079510 tn?1332114779 I feel worse after the second surgery. I have been told that a pacemaker will not help this condition and I am very hesitant to have the "maze" surgery. I have been cardioverted 13+ times in the last year (lost count after having it done so many times). Is there anyone out there that has been in this situation with the ablation procedure not working for them at all?
