Pacemaker removal

Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker removal

pacemaker

Avatar f tn I have a pacer, and agree with ireneo, pacemaker (generator) removal is pretty straight-forward, but removing the leads would like pulling a fishhook out of your heart muscle.
1835862 tn?1318373061 Removal is not always legally possible. For example, if the atrial pacemaker is not functioning, removal of the implant could result in death. Discuss this openly with your physician. The case for implanting a pacemaker is sometimes absolutely clear-cut and in other cases more of a precautionary procedure.
Avatar f tn My pacemaker battery had been dead for over a year and a half, and I just now was told that the pacemaker will have to be removed because it can damage the heart if it doesn't have a battery. Is this true? Incidentally, my pacemaker had not been activated for several years, as it was set for the minimum and didn't ever have to kick in.
564032 tn?1216312671 I have a friend that is having to undergo stomach removal because she can not afford the $50,000.00 fee to get a pacemaker placed. Her insurance or medicaid will not pay for the pacemaker. I have heard that the life expectancy for a stomach removal is not very long. My friend is like a mother to me and she is way to young to die! There is not alot of time left before her surgery and I am trying to find out what I can do to help her.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Has he been evaluated for gastroparesis with a gastric emptying scan? How many calories is he getting each day? I don't think a gastric pacemaker would help because gastric pacemakers help with nausea and vomiting but they don't actually speed up the emptying of the stomach.
Avatar m tn should I get a pacemaker, and what are the risks with lead removal and how can I lessen that risk, and will getting the pacemaker shorten my lifespan (even with the prevention of SA)? Thank you for any advice...
559709 tn?1215895187 I am a 25yr white female that was diagnosed in 2003 with inappropriate sinus tachy, i had 3 ablations (with complete removal of sinus node) After about 1 yr of ablation started having severe bradycardia. I recieved a Medtronic pacemaker Feb. 2006. Single chamber. Oh i also have cardiogenic syncope which i have had since i was 12. with a positve tilt table test of 15 sec heart stoppage. But since the pacemaker i have had constant skipping of heart beats that takes my breath away.
Avatar n tn I am a 30 yr old mother of 3 with a pacemaker. I have had the pacemaker for 3 years in July. It was originally placed because of a severe problem with fainting. My heart was stopping for nearly 50 seconds(documented) during these syncope episodes. The pacemaker has basically cured this problem. At my last visit they said it was working 25% of the time. Whatever that means. But now the pacemaker unit has shifted for the second time.
Avatar n tn My hobby had a bi v pacemaker put in 4 years .workedcfine so far. Unfortunately he caught some bug , turned out to staff auri or something. Inf d team strongly suggested removal of the device so it was done. Now heis without on. He is 72 y old. His choices. Amio Duran or life vest. A miowould help with the hr. but we r concerned about the other issues. It will be at least 6 months before they put. A new device.
Avatar m tn org/wiki/Endocarditis Yes surgical removal of pacemaker is the mainstay treatment in pacemaker induced endocarditis with intravenous antibiotics. http://www.chestjournal.org/cgi/content/abstract/124/4/1451 Please keep us posted. All the best!
Avatar f tn At 83, it's really hard to say if the benefits would outweigh the risks, unless, of course, you're family enjoys longevity past the 80's. The implantation of an ICD is pretty simple, and the rehab is pretty short. The main problem with the new implant is keeping a patient from pulling the wires loose before they have had a chance to heal into the wall of heart.
Avatar n tn To my knowledge, the closest point to skin level of wires of a pacemaker it is just in the union with the pacemaker itself, therefore the easy thing it is just to detach them and leave them inside the pacemaker pocket. Why to cut them?. Now some of those wires are quite long and some surgeons roll them in circles to shorten them. At least theoretically, if there are a few circles and he is close to any electro magnetic field some current can be generated by induction producing a zap.
Avatar f tn Brettswife, sometime ago there were groups that were investigating the use of colonic pacing to try to help people with your type of problem. It was much like the pacemaker for a heart, but this one was designed for use in the colon. I don't know where that research is at this point-in-time, but you might want to try researching it to see where it stands.
Avatar f tn Ann Thorac Surg. 2009 Apr; 87(4):1275-7. Allergy to pacemaker silicone compounds: recognition and surgical management. Oprea ML, Schnöring H, Sachweh JS, Ott H, Biertz J, Vazquez-Jimenez JF. Source Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, Germany. Abstract Silicone is a widely used biomaterial. Contact allergy, particularly to silicone components of pacemaker coatings, is uncommon.
Avatar f tn Her blood cultures have remained negative for over a week now. I feel as though since the removal of the pacemaker, he seems to not want much to do with her. SO, I am looking to get a second opinion. However, it seems all of the local pediatric cardiologist are in the same group as her current cardiologist. Now I am looking to see if she can be seen by an adult cardiologist, but not sure if an adult cardiologist will see her or not.
Avatar n tn I think it is similar to the laser sheaths used in the removal of chronically implanted pacemaker and ICD leads, only smaller. They remove the excess tissue causing the restenosis. As far as I know it is not widely used at most places or even at our institution.
Avatar n tn The left lung is well-aerated with no definite nodule or mass. There are mild to moderate emphysematous changes. A left transvenous pacemaker is in place. Mutichamber cardiomegaly.
675084 tn?1233087505 good you ask me.. my pacemaker is set to 80beats and I'm 100% depend on my pacemaker.. i have a Medtronic this my 2nd. pacemaker... my first Medtronic pacemaker i had it for 18 yrs. until the doctor turn it down than it didn't work good.. had to get a new one.. in Dec. it will be 2yrs. i had my pacemaker check last week and i find out the doctor that put my pacemaker in didn't set my pacemaker for life depend.. Good news is now my pacemaker is set for it not to be ever turn off..
Avatar f tn The pacemaker itself should not be a deterent from having an ablation. I've had a pacemaker for 6 years (because of an ablation actually), and then had another ablation about a year ago. Unfortunately, the ablations don't work for me, but I have IST, not SVT so hopefully they're more effective for that.
Avatar f tn I have had numerous surgeries including the Fontan in 1987 with a revision of the Fontan in 2006, where at that time I also had a Medtronic Enrhythym Pacemaker install. 3 weeks ago I had a Pacemaker replacement due to the fact my battery on my Pacemaker was running low. The new Pacemaker installed is a Medtronic Adapta. Since the new pacemaker my Heart beat has been all over the place. My 1st Enrhythym was paced at 80 bpm, and it pretty much stayed like that for 5.
