Pacemaker modes of operation

Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker modes of operation

pacemaker

Avatar n tn My mother had placement of a pacemaker 6 months ago. She was told that the battery should last 7-10 years. When she recently had her pacemaker checked the physician told her that she now has only 2 1/2 years of battery life left. Unfortunately, the reason for a loss of battery life was not given even after the question was presented. Can you help us understand what has happend.
Avatar f tn All pacemakers need to be replaced eventually because the battery runs down, and it's a safe and normally a routine procedure. The existing leads will be attached to the new pacemaker. It's possible an additional lead will be inserted. I'm sure your husband doesn't look forward to having the procedure again!
Avatar m tn The doctors are suggesting that we put a bi-ventricular pacemaker, however, my dad is not in any condition to do the operation. The doctors recommended that we continue with the dialysis for a while and then do the pacemaker operation. Could someone please help me with the following questions: How long do we have to wait to put the pacemaker on? Is there any possibility that once the pacemaker is put, how much can the EF improve?
Avatar n tn Is a pacemaker operation a minor thing? Or so I heard?

Avatar m tn My question is how the antibiotics can help in this case where the antibiotics cannot go to the pacemaker electrodes? Will a long treatment of antibiotics can kill the bacterias who are located on the pacemaker electrodes?
696415 tn?1228229959 The sinoatrial node (SA node) is a group of cells positioned on the wall of the right atrium, near the entrance of the superior vena cava. Cells in the SA node will naturally discharge at about 70-80 times per minute. Because the sinoatrial node is responsible for the rest of the heart's electrical activity, it is sometimes called the primary pacemaker, the natural pacemaker.
Avatar n tn I have a pacemaker and it is keeping me alive. I am paced at 100% which means if I did not have this device, I would not be here. A "danger", if any, might be the fact that you need to have the devise interrogated every 6 mo. There is a battery life and when it runs down, the device is replaced. I still have 3 yrs on my battery and have not experienced the battery change. I rank this invention right up there with antibiotics.
Avatar n tn t think there is anything that says an infant will only survive a set amount of time, instead the pacemaker will help your child become stronger and have an opportunity to take advantage of the progress being made today. I would not think in terms of how long, rather I would do whatever I could to help preserve my child's life. If that meant a pacemaker than so be it. I wish you the best in your difficult situation.
Avatar m tn My legs stopped hurting last night had two seperate sleep modes of 3-4 hrs, feel great to get up and not feel the emotion. I took son inflamatory meds from my hip operation and it helped my legs from hurting and I feel asleep. I will be going back again before sun up in 1 hr. Took my morning dose of inflam med and may today be the best all week.
Avatar f tn org/ it has a forum specificially for pacemaker and icd patients, it has tons of useful info on the process of implant that is easy to understand if you have any questions after reading, let me know or post in either site and you'll get some answers
Avatar f tn Are they speaking of another pacemaker or of a biventricular ICD (implantable cardio defibrillator)? The guidelines indicates that bellow 30% EF, the ICD is recommended to avoid risk of sudden death. If this is the case probably they need to extract the existing leads, which is a delicate operation. The use of bivent pacing is recommended if the movement of the ventricles is not in sync. Or she has a long QRS interval (more than 120ms). In those cases she might feel better after implant.
Avatar n tn Judy, I have a history of diabetes, plus other heart issues, and fought the idea of a Pacemaker, which kenkeith and I believe you are referencing. I feel much better, my heart is much healthier since accepting a pacemaker, and am kicking myself for fighting it. I'm betting the doctor is trying to save your father's life. I'm also what is called a volunteer Navigator in the cardiac wing of a trauma hospital, and I see how much better people do after getting a pacemaker.
3110611 tn?1368485035 I had a pacemaker put in on June 27th. I had a weigkieback 2 rythum. My heart beat between 30 at night to 45 BPM. Directly after the operastion I noticed that I felt stronger and could breath easier. For the last week I've been tired. Today I am very tired. My blood pressure today was 120/77 and my pulse was 83. Is there any reason I should feel tired from the operation?
Avatar n tn i never felt better after receiving the pacemaker than before i got it. my wife was persistent with my doctor, after two weeks of complaing, she finally got his attention when she noted that my heart rate kept dropping innthe 30's during a medical procedure. she confronted the doctor. i was brought into the er, where they checked my pacemaker, one lead was off. when they went in to replace that lead they found the other lead off, they also found a black oily substance on my pacemaker.
Avatar n tn These drugs are from different classes and have varying modes of action that will produce results that may differ from individual to individual. Further, the best drug for your problem will need to be identified after consultation with your urologist. This may be changed in view of response. The suggestion about the diaper was for the interim until a suitable drug therapy was decided upon.
Avatar m tn I don't know if Yoga could regulate the way the heart beats. However, I doubt it very much. I would think your father would be placed in great danger if the pacemaker wasn't replaced. His body is used to the pacemaker, and it would probably react poorly if it weren't working.
Avatar m tn Wondering if anyone has or would consider developing a Droid APP for Medtronics Pacer/Defibers. I have a BiV-ICD and live alone. With the advent of smart phones, I've done away with a land line and so the telephone checkups are no longer an option. I know my unit broadcasts a signal at certain times, because my old heart in-home monitor only needed to be within 50 ft or so to pick up my pacer signal.
Avatar m tn Sometimes a clot is dissolved by the body's natural system and/or there is medication that can dissolved a clot. A pacemaker can maintain stability of the heart's rhythm, and your husband can have many years left.
Avatar n tn Thanks for answering my email! I am new to this forum and I am not sure if my first constructed response was received or not-so forgive me if this sounds like a repeated "thank you". I also had a pacemaker inserted and posted another question to the "medical forum" of this web site sincee the pacemaker on top of the ablation...is very frustrating since I don't feel any change...although your email helped me understand after effects of the ablation.
Avatar f tn Saliva is not infectious.Your fears are unjustified.Learn the modes of HIV transmission and you won't be as fearful. All the best.
1600503 tn?1305349464 I had a pacemaker/icd implanted after I had a cardiac ablation. The implant itself was relatively easy and uncomplicated, but I have lead placement problems. The only ways to determine if you will have problems is the skill of your surgeon and your body. There is no way to know if you will, but there's a very small chance with any surgery of complication.
Avatar m tn Does this make sense? Is the risk of an adverse outcome outweight the risk of not having the operation performed? Thanks for your thoughts on this.
