Pacemaker modes of cardiac pacing

Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker modes of cardiac pacing

pacemaker

Avatar f tn I have a pacemaker after having 4 cardiac arrests in one day 5 years ago. The ventricular part is 100% pacemaker, the Atrial was only 3% pacemaker. I found out 3 weeks ago the Atrial is now 49% pacemaker. The Atrial has been going down for 2 years. What effect will that have with my double chamber pacemaker. Apparently my Cardiologist foresaw this happening, I hope. Is it natural to lose all of the electricity in your heart and still do fine with your pacemaker?
Avatar n tn To my knowledge, the closest point to skin level of wires of a pacemaker it is just in the union with the pacemaker itself, therefore the easy thing it is just to detach them and leave them inside the pacemaker pocket. Why to cut them?. Now some of those wires are quite long and some surgeons roll them in circles to shorten them. At least theoretically, if there are a few circles and he is close to any electro magnetic field some current can be generated by induction producing a zap.
Avatar f tn This device looks like a pacemaker and is implanted at the same position as a pacemaker. One of the possible functions of the ICD is antitachycardia pacing. It is an expensive device. You should discuss with your cardiologist if you would benefit from such a device or that perhaps other treatment options that you have not yet considered might be more beneficial.
Avatar f tn Hello, The decision to implant a pacemaker usually is based on symptoms of a bradyarrhythmia or tachyarrhythmia in the setting of heart disease. Symptoms associated with bradyarrhythmia include dizziness, fatigue, reduced exercise capacity, and frank congestive heart failure. You should discuss it with your cardiologist and get a detailed examination to decide about the pacemaker.
Avatar m tn If you have an ICD-CRT device (also with defibrillator), your doctor can leave the ICD turned on and change the pacemaker (ventricular pacing) as a backup if needed (e.g. when your own pacemaker runs too slowly or if appears a blockade between the upper and lower part of the heart). You can discuss about this option to your doctor and define with him the pros and cons. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Hi, Understand your anxiety. Asystole is cardiac standstill with no cardiac output and no ventricular depolarization. And yes it can cause sudden death. It is very rare to find during HUT and you were lucky that your doctors were there. The prognosis in asystole depends on the etiology of the asystolic rhythm. Good luck.
Avatar n tn I have been told in the past I might need a defribrillator if I become symptomatic and I am wondering if this was a symptom of a cardiac event. Thank you This discussion is related to Neurocardiogenic Syncope.
754751 tn?1241304207 A pacemaker is for people whose rhythms go too slow. When it is in place, it will pick up and start pacing for the heart. It cannot make a heart regular. So, to answer your question, it is not an answer for PVCs.
Avatar f tn 1, which means that every other heart beat originating from the natural pacemaker of the heart (the sinus node) was getting through the atrioventricular node (AV node), the single electrical connection from the top of the heart to the bottom of the heart. This means that the actual heart rate and cardiac output was decreased. Without seeing your child’s ECG and evaluating your child, I cannot give you specific information.
Avatar n tn I am 61. I had a pacemaker implanted years ago and had an AVJ ablation 18 mo ago to which destroyed the AV node leaving me pacer dependent. Because I already had the pacer, I did not have to have that implanted. the same will probably be true for your father. I have AFib and the boatload of meds I was taking could not hold it in check. So I had the AVJ... I have not regretted once.
Avatar f tn hi i have a dual chamber lead pacemaker and my pacemaker clinic believes my pacemaker lead had either dropped or dislodged and is pacing me where i don't need pacing it's my question is can the leads cause pvcs how can a venogram check the position my leads.
Avatar n tn You are correct that people with symptoms of heart failure (shortness of breath, leg swelling, feeling tired, etc) and a low ejection fractio associated with a LBBB have options that may improve things for them (a special type of pacemaker called cardiac resynchronization therapy, or CRT). On the other hand, many people with a LBBB never have any consequences. Either way, it should not be "forgotten", and you should follow with a cardiologist.
Avatar n tn Also, there are certain types of pacemakers which can prevent atrial fibrillation or reduce the duration of atrial fibrillation by special types of pacing responses to atrial premature contractions that usually trigger AF. Of course, if the patient is continually in AF, this will not work. Pacemaker insertion can be considered if any of the options are associated with your condition. You may discuss about these with your cardiologist.
Avatar m tn Will a pacemaker completely eliminate death as a result of a SA attack? I realize that the pacemaker itself is a fairly simple procedure, however, as I am only 38, I will definitely need replacement leads over time, and the risk factor of lead removal surgery has me quite frightened. Most of the data available for CCHB is either old or hard to find. It seems that pacing is suggested in nearly every case especially with increasing age.
Avatar n tn Do you know what percent of time you are being paced ? My ICD/Pacer is set at 40 BPM was paced at 2% some of my other pacer functions have been shut off because the EP said it would weaken my heart prematurely. I think it would depend on what your condition our hearts are in and what problems we have.
Avatar n tn s beat would not cause heart muscle damage. Proper pacing of heartbeats with a pacemaker can prevent cardiomyopathy.
Avatar f tn My doctor said that he set to pacing the Atrial and sening the ventricle, stay that way is better. The holter report said that my pacemaker is pacing the Atrial and pacing the ventricle. I don't know why he wants to tell lies. I also got the 2 leads pacemaker and my av node ablated in 1985. The doctor said the pacemaker will pace out of any rhythms. As soon as the pacemaker is working, don't have to worry about the rhythms including V-Fib.
Avatar f tn re young age, pacemaker is not a good idea treatment. At the moment, they claimed long term LV pacing can cause heart failure in the future. Who knows what other area pacing will cause what? I know my heart will get lazy because it thinks it can slack and let the pacemaker do the job. Yes, I got problem with my pacemaker. Not surgery or infection part. It is the programming part. Lead also failed once. Take care.
88793 tn?1290227177 Reading the paper abstract it deals with a study looking at a whole range of people who have had a pacemaker fitted for a wide range of reasons. In addition, the date of the implant of the pacemaker ranged over several decades (so some of the pacemakers were the earlier types). It does not say that the average lifespan was 22 years after implant, what it does say is that if you have structural heart problems, then you are less likely to live as long as someone without a pacemaker.
Avatar n tn A single lead ICD, Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator capable of pacing and defibrillator (I am not sure if a pacemaker has only one function i.e. pacing) cost me approx Rs 450000 (USD 10000) including surgery. More complicated ones could cost double. In India you can negotiate the cost with representatives of different ICD brands and get a good deal. There are many models of ICDs with different battery life. You must choose the most optimum with your cardiologist's help.
Avatar m tn Conclusion Electroanatomic navigation systems such as NavX can be used for cardiac imaging during single-lead atrioventricular pacemaker implantation as a reliable and safe alternative to fluoroscopy. Mayo Clinic does the procedure in 2 to 3 hours. >>"Aims Fluoroscopy is the standard and almost unique tool used for cardiac imaging during permanent pacemaker implantation, and its use implies exposure of patients and operators to radiation.
Avatar f tn 2011, He experiences pain and burning, and most of the time wants the pacemaker removed. It wakes him up during the night pacing, says in a 24 hour day he feels it pacing frequently, and that it is painful. He has asked the Dr. on several occasions, and he says the pacemaker is doing its job.
Avatar m tn Other causes include hypertension, cardiomyopathies, congenital heart disease, and mechanical damage, as may occur during right-sided cardiac catheterization or with the placing of a pacing catheter in the right ventricle. RBBB can also result from fibrosis of the skeleton of the heart; this disorder is called Lev's disease". Individual with isolated chronic RBBB are generally asymptomatic and do not require a pacemaker. But if serious symptoms such as fainting, etc.
