Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker location

pacemaker

Avatar m tn the doctor performing the procedure says there is a 10% chance they could burn off too much and I would have to have a pacemaker. Is anyone out there going thru this??
Avatar f tn The location of the motor stimulus of the gastric pacemaker is suggested to be placed at the input areas the acupuncture sites 'feed' to.
948996 tn?1245949077 My grandma is 87 years old, she recently had a heart attack and she has a pacemaker in... before she had her heart attack she broke both her ankles and when she went for an x-ray the doctor also told her he wanted to replace her pacemaker it had been 5-6 years but it wouldnt be for awhile, wait to replace it because he didnt want to cut her back open with her weight only being 80lbs....now when she had the heart attack and went to the hospital the doctor replaced the pacemaker....
Avatar n tn My friend informed me today that the blood clot on her atrial pacemaker lead has not dissolved (she was on Coumadin) and in fact has gotten larger and more are forming on the lead. What could cause a blood clot to form on a pacemaker lead and how common is this? If anyone has had this happen, what was done or can it be corrected safely? I'm very concerned about her and want to help her find any information that can help.
Avatar f tn I recently had a nuclear stress study done on june 29, 2010 I was scheduled for a pacemaker device change on june 23 2010 and it was cancelled due to an abnormal stress study in which the words used arepoor r-wave progression, chest attenuation, moderate sized perfusion defect mildly decreased tracer of the mid and distal anterior wall and apex, moderate peri infarct ischemia, and mild global hypokensis. LVEF of 43% Today i had an echo study July 14, 2010 and will not be seeing my Dr.
Avatar n tn After Pacemaker Surger my ECG test came back abnormal. Is it normal for them to come back with Right Bundle Branch Block and T Wave Abnormality, consider Laterial Ischemia? And what does this mean? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/514574'>lateral ischemia</a>.
Avatar f tn I got a pacemaker June 20th on the left side. There has been swelling in my left shoulder and arm from almost the time I got the pacemaker. The left side of my neck is contantly stiff. A venogram showed no clots. The shoulder and are feel very tight and the left arm is obviously larger than the right arm to the naked eye. My cardiologist said this is unusual but didn't think I have anything to worry about. Did my surgeon put the pacemaker in incorrectly? Is it crimping my vein?
Avatar n tn The stress test involves imaging perfusion of the injection under different circumstances. The objective of the test is to determine heart muscle viability at the heart cell level. Myocardial viability is based elementry cell function that includes cell membrane integrity (fibers, etc.) and/or preserved intermediary metabolism. Lack of both or one is considered a marker of cell necrosis. Mild to moderate irreversible defects represents viable myocardium.
Avatar n tn my mother had a stroke 10 years ago and had a pacemaker put in as a result of low blood pressure.she recently had her pacemaker check-up(annually) and they put her on morphine(4 days) even though she is in no pain.
542287 tn?1280610367 Hi, this is kay. I finally saw an EP. on Sept. 8th and was really hopeless and very dissapointed. He looked over all of my testing and holter test and said the location where i am having my pvc's is in an unusual location. So he would definetly not do an alblation as it is on the left side and the risk's way outweigh my symptom's and my pulse, the nurse could not hardly find it. She finally got it and said it was 52.
Avatar f tn Dear Shabna, The reason that there are 2 incisions for the pacemaker placement is that your child is an infant, which means that the pacemaker is an epicardial pacemaker system. This means that the pacemaker leads have to be attached to the outside of the heart, and this is separate from the placement of the pacemaker generator in the abdomen. Your father, as an adult with large blood vessels, has a transvenous pacemaker system.
Avatar n tn The spread of electricity throughout the heart muscle is possible because all heart muscle cells, not just pacemaker cells, are excitable. Usually, the heart muscle cells keep time more slowly than normal pacemaker cells. This allows the pacemaker cells within the SA node to be in control of generating and pacing the heartbeat.
Avatar n tn We asked the cardiologist if an ablation would be a possibility for her, and he said no, because doing an ablation of the sinus node could be risky and if too much of the sinus node were burned, she could become pacemaker dependent for the rest of her life. I have read that EP studies and ablations have had very high success rates in curing SVT, and if she could be cured it would greatly improve her quality of life.
Avatar n tn He suggested I have a catheter ablation. Once meeting with surgeon, he is confident the exact location of my heart they need to get to is in a bad location - too high risks for heart attack/stroke. So, I was put on 240 mg Sotalol. Three EKG's later, I was taken off - no improvement in PVC's and heart rate was 44 with serious side effects. I have now been prescribed Flecanaid. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Usually, the heart muscle cells keep time more slowly than normal pacemaker cells. This allows the pacemaker cells within the SA node to be in control of generating and pacing the heartbeat. But, if a particular group of cells in areas remote from the SA node become extra- or hyper-excitable they can take over as the pacemaker for one or several beats, or for a longer term. You might think of the heart's cells as a schoolyard full of young boys playing soccer.
Avatar n tn I had an ablation procedure performed days ago for possible PSVT. I also had a pacemaker inserted. So far, I've been having episodes of tacycardia (pulses can be as high as 160 after a short walk), and facial flushing. I am taking Multaq 400 mg with Cardizem 30 mg BID. I've also been informed that another ablation procedure may need to take place due to the location of a possible ectopic node. I wasn't expecting to feel this way after the abalation procedure.
Avatar n tn If however everything goes as planned, he will just have to go in through the groin, get the lead out, then go in her pacemaker site and swap out the pacemaker and put in the new lead. That way is MUCH better, no open heart surgery and recovery time would just be a matter of days instead of weeks. The doc said he'd seen 3 cases similar to hers in the past 10 years and everything went great with them. Her surgery is this Wednesday the 4th.
