Pacemaker lead extraction

Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker lead extraction

pacemaker

Avatar n tn My mom Just found out a couple weeks ago that she had a lead wire to her pacemaker that was "cracked". She was scheduled for surgery last night. Right before they started to operate, after she'd been put under, they did something that allowed them to see that the wire wasn't just "cracked". Her lead was broken about an inch from the pacemaker and all of the remaining lead had followed the natural path that the blood takes and was all coiled up inside her heart.
Avatar n tn You could have isolated lead extraction if the generator didn't need to be changed. A lead could then be reimplanted without having to change the generator. You should discuss with the electrophysiologist who implanted the device. Hope that helps!
Avatar m tn Maybe the one thing I can really focus on is researching the best cardio for lead extraction in my area, if, in case, after the surgery I get a broken lead or something, then I'll be prepared on who to call that is best qualified. I've heard they have simulator machines (like pilots have) to teach laser sheath lead extraction, so I know there are individuals that are more aptly able to do this type of procedure. Thank you, again, for your reply...

Lead extraction is not a benign procedure so it is also important to know whether the high thresholds noted on your last interrogation is an acute event, or something that has been progressing (although 2-years seems a bit early).
Avatar f tn hi i have a dual chamber lead pacemaker and my pacemaker clinic believes my pacemaker lead had either dropped or dislodged and is pacing me where i don't need pacing it's my question is can the leads cause pvcs how can a venogram check the position my leads.
Avatar f tn It was later determined at autopsy that her pacemaker lead had fractured. It was a Medtronic pacemaker. I have been in disbelief since then. I understand that these are just wires. And as an electrophysiologist so eloquently put it, "they are like a paperclip. If you bend a paperclip enough times, it will eventually break." And that leads are the "achillles heal" of the pacemaker. This to a mourning mother doesn't sit well.
Avatar m tn After reviewing a chest x-ray and testing the pacemaker, the electrophysicologist deactivated the atrial lead (via programming) because it was partially dislodged which was causing it to fire irregularly and only at high levels - this was what was causing the diaphragm twitch. The electrophysiologist explained that the atrial lead targeted Atrial Fib and was primarily for quality of life, whereas the ventricle lead was targeting bradycardia and pauses.
Avatar n tn My friend informed me today that the blood clot on her atrial pacemaker lead has not dissolved (she was on Coumadin) and in fact has gotten larger and more are forming on the lead. What could cause a blood clot to form on a pacemaker lead and how common is this? If anyone has had this happen, what was done or can it be corrected safely? I'm very concerned about her and want to help her find any information that can help.
Avatar n tn I have a friend that just found out she has blood clots on her Atrial pacemaker lead. She is very concerned and has not gotten any answers as to what caused this or what they are going to do to fix it. The doctors say this is very rare and don't seem to have any answers for her. I know it can be very serious if the clot breaks loose. The clot has gotten larger over the past several months and more have formed on the lead. Did you get any answers about this from your doctors?
Avatar n tn I required a lead extraction due a fractured lead. I had a 2nd ICD implanted and have done well. However, I have recently begun having symptoms of chest pressure with exertion, fatigue, with symptoms of heart failure. I have non-ischemic cardiomyopathy. Could the prior surgery have caused scarring and/or blockage of blood vessels? It has been 3 1/2 years since my surgery. I am scheduled for a cath this week and was curious. Thank you.
Avatar f tn My cardiologist sent me to see a doc in the hospital yesterday who confirmed the damaged lead. He turned the lead off, leaving me basically with a single chamber pacer. He said I could live like that until the battery will die in about 3 years. I shouldn't feel dizzy, die or pass out (his words, not mine). He also recommended lead revision and made me an appointment for that at the end of September. So, what now? Live like this for 3 years or the procedure?
Avatar m tn Hi, I ran into your post while researching for tricuspid regurgitation cause by pacemaker lead/s. I'm wondering how you've been since then and if you've found answers to your questions. I am on my fourth double chamber pacemaker and when they took out my old leads and put the new ones, my tricuspid valve got damaged in the process and now it's leaking. That was 3 years ago and I had a mild TR. Now, it got worse and it's moderate TR now.
Avatar f tn Originally, I have wpw (SVT & RBBB). A one lead pacemaker (PASAR) implanted in 1982. Which was unable to control the tachy. His bundle ablation was given after 3 years from that. Now I got the number 4 permanent pacmaker (2 leads). I'm not pacemaker dependent. I still have A-tach and A-Fib and I'm still have wpw.
Avatar f tn Now I have a 2 leads St Jude pacemaker. I also got 3 leads in my heart. The current pacemaker is number 4. It implanted in 2002. Not the new model require 2 leads. It depends how many leads that your husband needs. Oh, I rather say it depends your husband's EP choose how many leads for him! They're one lead, two leads. three leads and even four leads pacemaker in the market. Does your husband still has wpw? Was he had the open heart surgery for wpw?
Avatar n tn The lead/s recall (medtronic)? The lead fracture or dislodge? Pacemaker battery died? Need an upgraded pacemaker? Pacemaker recall? What kind and what brand of your pacemaker? Do you have the serial number? You can directly contact the producer and find out why? Mine is St Jude and implanted in 2002. Still got 3 years to go. Once stage they said all the professional needed to download a programme because it reading the battery life in error.
723800 tn?1230887234 When it came to having my second pacemaker inserted about 5yrs ago, they decided to put in a smaller pacemaker and replace the problem lead, after I recovered my chest felt better with the pacemaker not bulging out so much and everything was normal until yet again with the new lead that they had inserted was not working properly.
Avatar n tn Hello -- I have a two-lead ICD for HCM and then had a septal myectomy. The surgery decreased my risk, but also left me with complete heart block. So, when the ICD wears out, I'll switch to a pacemaker in the generator changeout. My question: can I keep my leads stay intact, with the high-voltage lead in my right ventricle simply being used as a second pacemaker lead?
Avatar n tn i was brought into the er, where they checked my pacemaker, one lead was off. when they went in to replace that lead they found the other lead off, they also found a black oily substance on my pacemaker. the pacemaker company was called, they told the dr to replace it free of charge. we have no idea what the substance was. the dr said he had never seen anything like it. we are waiting to hear from the company.
Avatar m tn I went to a dentist to extract my "upper right back" tooth. The extraction was incomplete. The dentist told me that he could not remove as the tip(root) is very close to the jaw. Is it safe to leave it as it is? And how long?
Avatar f tn I just had a dual lead pacemaker put in 3 days ago to control accelerated junctional rhythm. The same night of surgery I had ajr of 135 it had overridden my pacemaker. I continue to have junctional rhythms and very rarely is my heart rate,at 85 which is what pacemaker is set at. I can't walk from one room to another without heart racing and out of breath. I feel horrible.. Will this get better as maybe my heart is irritated? I feel worse than. Before pacemaker.
Avatar n tn I just had a new generator put in my pacemaker and my hccoughing continues, i had this condition before the generator was replaced and according to the pacemaker manfacture this is a reason for the change. Why am i still having this condition?
Avatar n tn I am not a doctor but feel there is a good chance that a dual chamber, demand pacemaker (DDDR) with the ventricular lead implanted into the apex will eventually cause cardiomyopathy. Just search the internet by typing in "pacemaker low EF" or similar combination and the articles dealing with this issue will be found by the hundreds. You could read the articles for days. The key is the implantation of the lead into the apex, not in the outflow tract and only dual chamber pacemakers.
Avatar m tn Unfortunately he has one of the recalled leads. He had the generator replaced in 2/09 and was told the lead was not broken. Four weeks later he received four shocks and went to the ER. The defibrillator was turned off with the pacer still working. Now the doc wants to replace the lead. This is causing a lot of anxiety and my husband would like to just keep the defibrillator turned off. Three months ago he had a spontaneous subdural bleed and recovered well from that surgery.
