1917408 tn?1421952040 My 17 year old daughter got hit in the solar plexus with a football, right over her pacemaker. She only got it because of a major allergic reaction to a dental anesthetic and it has never served a purpose in 8 years. Unfortunately, she can't feel it under her skin after the impact and she gets occasional sharp pains in her abdomen. We are thinking it dislodged and is dangling by the wires.
Avatar n tn 99pacer, when you had your AV node ablated, were you in sedation, general anesthetic or local anesthetic? Were they given you the pacemaker straight away after the ablation or you need to wait for a period of time? Thanks.
661468 tn?1252514724 Each phase of the procedure took about 30 to 40 minutes. Both phases were conducted with local anesthesia. The insertion phase also made use of a light general anesthetic which made me woozy but awake. Both processes were painful in spite of the anesthetics, but the pain was very short in duration. After spending the night in the hospital I was released the next morning to return to my very nice hotel. The total procedure went well with no complications.
2127574 tn?1335359217 But if you are worried about the pain your doctor should be able to offer you some local anesthetic. as for your worry about the cramping and heavy flow, I would talk to your doctor more about some other hormone option. The Para Guard offers no hormones so your flow and cramping are natural, nothing to lessen it, which hormonal BC typically lessen flow, cramping and length.
Avatar m tn Read that you get a local anesthetic shot on the side, which seems painful. If somebody could give an insight on the their experience of a liver biopsy, I would really appreciate it.
Avatar n tn maybe, just a bit of pressure but not really pain. This was done both times, without any local anesthetic and I was out having lunch and shopping after both. *smile* You end up with an ordinary bandaid over the area....just like after you have a blood test, minus the cotton piece and it can be removed a couple of hours later. Some docs will use a local anesthetic. It's all personal choice as some docs feel that the jab for the local is equal to the jab of the needle for the biopsy.
Avatar n tn Does a local anesthetic for eye surgery promote faster healing of the eye versus a general anesthetic? Sue 1.30.
Avatar m tn A Mammotome biopsy can be done on an outpatient basis with a local anesthetic, only a small amount of healthy tissue is removed, it doesn’t require sutures (stitches) because the incision is very small and the discomfort is minimal. Multiple tissue samples are obtained with one insertion (other methods require multiple insertions). When the biopsy is completed, the tissue samples are sent to a laboratory for analysis and pathologic results.
Avatar n tn It is going to be a local anesthetic with the surgery being at 1pm. The doctor told me that the procedure lasts and about an hour. My question is can I drink alcohol that night, say around 8pm. What side effects will happen with just a local anesthetic. Thanks.
Avatar m tn The pain associated with an implanted pacemaker may be musculoskeletal or nerve related. Most likely related to the minor surgery required for insertion of the pacemaker. This type of pain related to the incision should heal within weeks. If you have persistent chest pain at the site of the pacemaker, it might be reasonable to see your doctor so that possible causes can be evaluated.
88793 tn?1290227177 The first pacemaker was implanted under a local anesthetic. It was very painful. I refused to have anymore for the rest of my life. Few years later, it came up that I need another type of pacemaker. The doctor offer a general anesthetic for the rest of life whenever it needs a pacemaker change. Last few years, I went through a lot of sedations when I have gastroscopy and colonoscopy. I didn't feel a thing, I slept through the whole procedure.
Avatar n tn will there be personality changes after pacemaker insertion? My son is 24 and fears becoming"hyper",he now is fairly "laid back".Is this unfounded?
Avatar n tn This is a relatively simple procedure which does not require anything but local anesthetic and is usually very well tolerated in the vast majority of patients. What is her objection to the procedure? Is she mis informed regarding how invasive this can be? Is she depressed following the loss of a loved one? This needs to be fully explored before a final decision can be made.
Avatar n tn In my experience, when a Pacemaker is inserted by a Cardiologist, a representative by the Pacemaker manufacturer follows up the insertion and programs the pacemaker in the hospital. It's not unusual that it has to be tweaked from time to time. If your husband still isn't feeling right, I'd request that you contact your Cardiologist and ask for a manufacturer's rep to be present to review the history of your heart beats since it was inserted.
Avatar n tn Normally, she should not have such pain after the insertion of the pacemaker. Maybe its position is causing some muscle spasm that is affecting her arm. The best option is to take her back to the doctor who inserted the pacemaker and explain the situation to him. If she has some fever, it may mean that the pacemaker place is infected and needs an urgent intervention.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had just a local anesthetic for surgical excision removal of intraductal papilloma? I’m having 2 papillomas removed by local anesthetic was wondering if anybody has done this and how it went and what to expect. I’m having radioactive seeds put in the day before. One by ultrasound and the other with a mammogram. Had already done stereotactical biopsies and both came back benign.
1917408 tn?1421952040 When she was about to go under general anesthetic back then in order to put the pacemaker in, they assured us that local and general anesthetics worked entirely differently and that sensitivity to one didn't transfer to the other. As I can't sleep due mainly to trying to reason this situation out, I looked that info up and came up w/ this from a professor of anesthesiology at the Mayo College of Medicine in Rochester, Minn.
Avatar f tn m not sure about that kind of surgery but I had my gallbladder removed and an abdominal xray under general anesthetic at 21wks, and also had a cavity filled at 18wks with local anesthetic.
Avatar m tn We are trying to figure out if we should go direclty to the insertion of a pacemaker vs. an ablasion procedure. Since ablasion procedure may need to be repeated and flecainide (drug after ablasion) is questionable, should we just go directly to the pacemaker?
Avatar f tn Could this operation be done under a local anesthetic or is there anything else I could do apart from having the surgery.
Avatar n tn All local anesthetic used in dentistry today are amides rather than esters. With the old ester-type locals (no longer used), cross-allergenicity did occur, so if you were allergic to one ester-type local anaesthetic, all the others were contraindicated. The good thing about the amides used nowadays is that cross-allergenicity does not occur. In other words, allergy to one amide local doesn't mean that you're allergic to other amide locals.
Avatar n tn Thankyou for your response to my question of the local anesthetic not taking effect, I will explore your suggestions of hypnosis, oral sedation, nitrous oxide, or in-office intravenous sedation. My next question is "How are these methods administered?
1927233 tn?1326670387 My mom had one ovarian cyst the size of a grapefruit at the age of 88 and put into a care facility to monitor and care for her. Doctors said it was too risky to remove the cyst and was possibly cancerous. Months later the cyst grew very large and her belly looked pregnant with the belly button protruding outward. My mom being 4'10 and 100 lbs was in a precarious situation. A doctor said if it were his mom he would give her more morphine and let her go peacefully.
Avatar f tn I got a pacemaker June 20th on the left side. There has been swelling in my left shoulder and arm from almost the time I got the pacemaker. The left side of my neck is contantly stiff. A venogram showed no clots. The shoulder and are feel very tight and the left arm is obviously larger than the right arm to the naked eye. My cardiologist said this is unusual but didn't think I have anything to worry about. Did my surgeon put the pacemaker in incorrectly? Is it crimping my vein?
Avatar m tn Arthroscopy can be performed under a general anesthetic, a spinal or epidural anesthetic, a regional block (where only the extremity being examined is numbed), or even a local anesthetic. After adequate anesthesia is achieved, the procedure can begin. So, if your wife does not want a general anaesthesia, she can opt for a regional or epidural or a spinal anaesthesia. If a local anesthetic has been used, there may be no pain at all immediately after the procedure. Hope this information helps.
