I had a pacemaker inserted back in December.I now am not certain that this was the right decision my question is will the pacemaker cause other problems to my heart?

I am 48 and am on my 3rd pacemaker since 1999 for SSS. In Dec 2011, I was found to have moderate to severe tricuspid regurgitation. I had an echo which also indicated mild enlargement of the right atrium and ventricle; I then had a right heart cath and I do not have pulmonary hypertension. I don't pace very much and I have about two years left on this system. (Medtronic EnPulse)
Questions include why I would develop tricuspid regurg all of a sudden? Could my lead be causing this?
There can be many other causes of swelling of legs like chronic venous insufficiency, lymphodema, cellulitis, kidney failure, heart failure and liver failure. One of the severe complications of deep vein thrombosis is pulmonary embolism which can lead to difficulty in breathing, chest pain and even death. If you are anxious and doubtful about your diagnosis discuss your concerns with your doctor. Tests like Doppler ultrasound, venography may be needed.
Some patients with LBBB, a markedly prolonged QRS (time interval for lower chamber contractions), and congestive heart failure may benefit from a pacemaker (provides a stable, faster than normal electrical impulse) increasing left ventricular contractions.

Is your uncle a heart failure patient? Furosmide is medication as a diuretic to prevent congested heart failure. The medication should provide relief for shortness of breath, and the only association with shortness of breath would be that medication is not effective and there is some pulmonary edema and the heart is not pumping effectively.... the blood is backing up into the lungs and causing SOB (relative to the diuretic ineffective).
t find anything. Originally I thought a pacemaker may be of some benefit, but the article I saw said that with Atrial Fibrillation, it only works for people that are Tachy-Brady (and some limited circumstances)

AV Node ablation seems like a drastic decision for SVT. To do so destroys the AV node and requires the use of a pacemaker. If you're not using a pacemaker, then you were ablated in some other area of your heart. Hopefully, this is the case. Please elaborate, so the proper response can be given.

The best way to begin addressing this question is to ask your cardiologist whether your mother is "pacemaker dependent" or not. Pacemaker dependent means that the heart is reliant on the pacemaker, and without it, the heart cannot pump fast enough to meet the demands of the body. (There are others who need the pacemaker infrequently as a "back-up", for the rare times when the heart rate slows down).
I've had a pacemaker for 28 years now. And because of the amount of time I have had my pacer I have gone into heart failure. My doctor is planing on putting a bivent. pacer in me in about a month. My pacemakers normally have lasted me 7-8 years. I was just wondering how long is the life expectancy of the new pacemaker.

My Heart Doctor suggested I have a pacemaker. I opted to NOT have this done becuase of my age and I am 5' & 106 lbs (small frame not much room for the pacemaker). I don't believe a pacemaker is used to control AFib. Perhaps your father has other heart problems. The most common use for a pacemaker is to keep the heart from beating too slow, or stopping. Some times a PM is used when the heart electrical system has to be totally shut down, in which case there would be no AFib or other arrhythmia, but this is not done to my knowledge, to control AFib.
I have a pacemaker and still have pvc's and pac's but the pacemaker is set to only let so much time go between beats so if there is too long a pause it will pick up and beat for you. Yes, they are frustrating but not dangerous at all. I also had pauses for seconds before pm and I know how scary that can be but don't worry!

A lady friend underwent open heart surgery to repair/replace two heart valves and to do a mini maze to stop atrial fibrillation. She has been in the hospital for the past 10 days due to complications and had a pacemaker installed a few days back to address low heart rate. This, new to me, is due to swelling due to surgery and the swelling is restricting heart beat signals to the ventricle muscles - it is our hope that when the swelling goes down the pacemaker will not be needed.
It is an abnormal cardiac rate or rhythm (arrhythmia). The condition is caused by a failure of the sinus node to maintain its pacemaker function or by a defect in the electrical conduction system. Examples of arrhythmia include:

To add to what already has been said a pacemaker is needed when the system's natural pacemaker (sinus node in the right atrium) may be irregular. Your medication helps control high blood pressure and probably would be prescribed without a pacemaker.
