Avatar n tn My mother had placement of a pacemaker 6 months ago. She was told that the battery should last 7-10 years. When she recently had her pacemaker checked the physician told her that she now has only 2 1/2 years of battery life left. Unfortunately, the reason for a loss of battery life was not given even after the question was presented. Can you help us understand what has happend.
Avatar n tn I am a software engineer which is trying to write a pacemaker system specification for a research project. My question is about what the heart does when it receives a pacemaker stimulus. Suppose that the heart is slow (eg: 1 beat every 3 second) and that the pacemaker lower rate limit is 60ppm (1 pulse every second) then what happens? how the heart reacts to our stimulus? if the heart make a contraction based on the pacemaker stimulus, then when the next natural contraction is supposed to be?
Avatar n tn My 51 year old husband is going to see an electrophysiologist and I am wondering how it might affect his job if it turns out he needs a pacemaker. He is a software engineer, designing and testing the software that runs in the transmitters and receivers at the base stations of cell phone towers. (He doesn't actually work with actual cell phones for this - it is a component of the overall technology needed to establish a working cell tower).
Avatar f tn Not sure who you are talking to or what you are talking about. Candyce, who started the thread, asked for a link to Frijole's spread sheets. I supplied her with the link and a note that Frijole is no longer updating the spread sheets (consequently nothing on the new meds or Cosmos trial is on those spread sheets). However, they may be of interest to look at. No one is updating the spread sheets now and, as far as I know, no one will be.
Avatar n tn s better to consult with your doctor, because only your doctor have the hole report and he know how to correctly read that software report! For treatment Doctor can give you some sympathetic or antiarrythmic drugs(depend on other ECG finding) or keep it as it is. Just do systematic checking to have prognosis in future. Remember: heart is not a liver, once heart tissue were damaged it will be never reverse again!
Avatar f tn Kathy Hansen went online to research treatments and found the Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where doctors could insert a pacemaker into her stomach. The pacemaker acts similarly to a heart pacemaker, sending signals that cause the stomach muscles to contract at the right times so that Gentrie could eat. 338416 tn?1420045702 Though i still recall a discussion we had on here about a 1.5T with the latest software being just as good, though all the details of it i couldn't say. Anyhooo thanks for making sure a simplistic point of why the strength of the MRI makes such a difference! Cheers..............
Avatar n tn There may be some confusion regarding arrhythmia. It is an EKG that monitors electrical impulse activity with each heartbeat. An echo uses sound waves to view the heart's structure and a doppler software records blood flow through the heart. It would be this test that may show some calicification of your heart valves. As Chatter states you are quite young to have any serious calcification of the valves.
Avatar f tn Anyway, when he was a new author his agent got him an interview with an editor where King was presenting his manuscript. The editor liked it a lot and was attempting to charm Steve with a lot of freindly chit-chat. Poor Steve was terrified, and got that dry mouth can't talk response. All he could do, finally, was get up and squeak, "Me go now," to the editor and high tail it outta there.
Avatar f tn Ran into an article in the Journal for the American Academy of Family Practitioners published this month, telling doctors that Levothyroxine is the ONLY valid treatment for hypo and to trust the TSH. I called the Academy and was transferred to the editor of the Journal and advised him of the more current articles (that I published here) conducted and published in Europe and now published by the NIH.
Avatar n tn 1 and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on Feb. 5th. I have an ultra touch 2 monitor for her. I did notice that they have a software for it in which I can download and monitor her levels, etc. I also have noticed that there is a diabetes pilot software in which I can get for my desktop and pda. I like the fact that the diabetes pilot has a list of foods (carbs, etc.) that you can enter for reference and can be used on my pda.
976897 tn?1379167602 It may be something we have in the future, but our software doesn't allow that at this time. On the other hand, after visiting forums for just a few days, we all become fluent in chat typo.
Avatar m tn Should read "respiratory symptoms" on my last post. (Sorry, it's the editor in me.
751951 tn?1406632863 I picked up a disc with some CT scans and ultrasound images today, and noticed that the autorun software included was called "eFilm Lite", by Merge Software, (IIRC). . It was the same program, though a slightly different version, that was on the disc I received from the MRI center about 3 weeks ago (Version 2.0.0 vs. 2.1.1). That one wouldn't run on either of my home computers; I've yet to try the one I received today.
Avatar n tn Oh well, the advantage to all this is when the software finally wears out, you can happily get sloppy with your own typing and continue to blame the software. Or … it raises the question of whether you actually have software, and you’ve been bluffing the whole time :o)!
317787 tn?1473358451 Not real good behavior coming from chief medical editor, she should know better.
Avatar m tn t have much to compare this software two. But my guess is that there is a big difference between the better software and what comes free with some operating systems. The exception being the voice recognition software built into Vista. Supposedly, that's quite excellent. That said, there is a learning curve. The dictation part is pretty easy. Harder, is learning the commands, such as going back to insert or delete a word, or moving around the webpage.
Avatar f tn 5T machines are gaining on the 3T by virtue of better software. If the center is keeping up with the new technology, you may be losing little or nothing at all by get imaged on a 1.5T. Don't lose any sleep over it. I'm trying to decrease the emphasis (that I created) over worrying whether we get MRIs on a 3T machine.
Avatar f tn Phil, we have also discussed how sophisticated software can raise the resolution of a machine, say a 1.5T, to surpass the resolution of a 3T with mediocre software. I have never felt that the public could be in any position to evaluate the level of software used. So, I have some questions for you. The first, is do you agree that the quality of the software does play a role? and What is the range of cost for really up-to-date software?
Avatar f tn The facility I have had 2 MRIs done uses a Toshiba MRI and was today told they use "EMPOWER" software. Have read that 'good' software with a 1.5 T is as good as, or better than a 3T with poor software. Wondering if anyone knows about the quality of Toshiba and Empower? Thanks in advance!
