Avatar f tn Nationwide is one of only a few hospitals in the U.S. that have implanted a pacemaker in the stomach to help with gastroparesis. There was no guarantee it would work, but it was Gentrie’s best shot at eating again. In July, Gentrie underwent surgery to have the pacemaker implanted. As she was prepped for surgery, the teenager asked her doctor, “Can I have KFC root beer when I wake up?
Avatar m tn In order to keep the heart rate sufficently fast, Doctors sometimes need to implant a Pacemaker that will discharge only when the SA Node fails to fire. This type of Pacemaker monitors the heart, and if the SA Node goes too long without firing, the Implanted Pacemaker will discharge, therefore keeping the heart rate fast enough. If the SA Node works as expected, the Implanted Pacemaker does not do anything, just monitors.

Avatar f tn In dilated cardiomyopathy a pacemaker that coordinates the contractions between the left and right ventricles (biventricular pacing), may help improve the cardiac output. Pacemaker will sometimes help with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Please discuss with your consulting doctor. Regards.

Avatar n tn t think there is anything that says an infant will only survive a set amount of time, instead the pacemaker will help your child become stronger and have an opportunity to take advantage of the progress being made today. I would not think in terms of how long, rather I would do whatever I could to help preserve my child's life. If that meant a pacemaker than so be it. I wish you the best in your difficult situation.
Avatar f tn Anyway, when he was a new author his agent got him an interview with an editor where King was presenting his manuscript. The editor liked it a lot and was attempting to charm Steve with a lot of freindly chit-chat. Poor Steve was terrified, and got that dry mouth can't talk response. All he could do, finally, was get up and squeak, "Me go now," to the editor and high tail it outta there.
Avatar f tn Ran into an article in the Journal for the American Academy of Family Practitioners published this month, telling doctors that Levothyroxine is the ONLY valid treatment for hypo and to trust the TSH. I called the Academy and was transferred to the editor of the Journal and advised him of the more current articles (that I published here) conducted and published in Europe and now published by the NIH.
Avatar f tn This device looks like a pacemaker and is implanted at the same position as a pacemaker. One of the possible functions of the ICD is antitachycardia pacing. It is an expensive device. You should discuss with your cardiologist if you would benefit from such a device or that perhaps other treatment options that you have not yet considered might be more beneficial.
970256 tn?1249423974 For this problem I received a pacemaker but I still have problems that I have NO answer for. It usually happens while I am sitting at rest, I get a sensation of gravity that pulls at my head and chest, my left arm gets weak and heavy (cant lift it, feels like someone is pushing it down) my left side of face gets numb and tingly around my temple, eye, nose and cheek, feel like I cant breath, head feels tight like my skull is closing in.
Avatar f tn I also understand a pacemaker would treat AFib only if your had a full shut-down and are are operating under full-time pacemaker timing. I could be wrong on this point, I am not a pacemaker patient myself. What has you doctor said about your symptoms?
Avatar n tn Is a pacemaker operation a minor thing? Or so I heard?

Avatar m tn A pacemaker is assurance against any arrhythmia that could cause cardiac arrest. It won't help any of the current heart condtions. Sometimes, as one ages there is some calicification of the heart valves that cause some leakage, and really not considered medically significant unless the leakage is moderate to severe, then there may be some shortness of breath, chest pains, etc. Thanks for sharing and if you have any further questions you are welcome to respond. Take care.
Avatar m tn Should read "respiratory symptoms" on my last post. (Sorry, it's the editor in me.
Avatar m tn Hi Doctor, My bro aged 21 recently jus joined army force as regular, physical fit in average, not really stressful workout in camp as he's a military police. 1867019 tn?1353467540 I'm a 27 years old male and my heart rate gets as low as 45 when I'm sleeping, however I don't have any symptoms like you do. I do have Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia and I'm still trying to figure out why I have a low heart rate. If you're having symptoms that's not a good thing. There probably is an explanation for your case. Just think long and hard about your options if your doc does decides that a pacemaker will help. Can't rush these things ya know.
Avatar n tn t recall anyone who said they had problems other that a sore spot on the chest, but almost all people with pacemaker insertions report greater energy and a better quality of life. I also have a pacemaker, and am feeling great. I would proceed with great confidence and pass that on to your Grandmother. She will sail through this and feel much better, and she will undoubtedly get through the procedure better with your support.
