pacemaker

Avatar n tn Ankylosing spondylitis can cause valvular heart disease, specifically aortic valve and ascending aortic disease which when not corrected can cause heart failure, atrial fibrillaiton and event ventricular tachycardia. Also, since the conduction system of the heart runs close to the aortic valve, when the valve gets calcified as is the case with Ank Sp, one can develop heart block and require a pacemaker.
Avatar m tn Also he has a pacemaker, presumably this was to assist heart function? What was his ef when he got the pacemaker put in? Is he able to do any exercise? Presumably he has exercise tolerance issues? Exercise is usually the doctors opening line of discussion. He may need a review of his current medication , and some meds do help boost EF. Dont know if this helps......
Avatar n tn the 3 wire pacemaker could need to be programed again after a year of instalation?
Avatar m tn apparently risperdal is known to cause tachycardia... so the only option i have right now is beta-blockers + pacemaker... OR trying to be as calm as buddha !

572651 tn?1530999357 The doctors think when the surgery was performed that the leads that deliver the morphine to her spine were contaminated with this infection and introduced into her central nervous system. DJ now has a raging infection, which also appears to have attacked her brain. They are doing a lumbar puncture today to determine positively if there is an infection in her CSF and the appropriate course of treatment. They have also mentioned sepsis.
Avatar n tn The current approved treatment for this is a drug named idebenone, under review in Canada. If someone is suffering from friedreich’s ataxia may require some surgical interventions mainly for spine and heart. Usually a metal rod is inserted in spine to help prevent the progression of scoliosis. With ataxia progressing, assisting devices like cane, walker, wheel chair may be required. Standing frame can help reduce the secondary complications of prolonged wheel chair use.
Avatar m tn I recently met with a cardiologist who review the ECG and 24 hour heart monitor results which show the need for a pacemaker, even though I have not external symptoms. The problem was caught during an ECG done for life insurance purposes. At the moment some cardiologists might say that I don't need the pacemaker yet, but to avoid the chance of the thing getting worse and resulting in a stroke or worse I will be getting a pacemaker.
Avatar n tn The report you have posted is an echo report which looks at the heart wall sizes and chamber sizes as well as the valves, it does not show the electrical system of the heart and how that is working. A pacemaker deals with the electrical system; HY is your doctor saying you need a pacemaker? What is your heart rate during exercise and rest?
Avatar n tn My hobby had a bi v pacemaker put in 4 years .workedcfine so far. Unfortunately he caught some bug , turned out to staff auri or something. Inf d team strongly suggested removal of the device so it was done. Now heis without on. He is 72 y old. His choices. Amio Duran or life vest. A miowould help with the hr. but we r concerned about the other issues. It will be at least 6 months before they put. A new device.
1867019 tn?1353467540 I have a low heart rate...while at my dr's visit today I had a heart rate of 44. The nurses kinda freaked out. I haven't been feeling well for months now and I'm sure it's because of my heart rate. The doctor checked my heart rate and my pulse and they don't match. He is referring me to a cardiologist. I'm only 33 years young and the thought of a pacemaker when he mentioned it scared me. I'm a fairly active person.
Avatar n tn The nurses are in here since mid week listening to my heart like every fifteen minutes. I also have a low grade fever for the past couple days. They want to give me a pacemaker. Why are the nurses listening to my heart so much and I feel like they should hurry up and put the pacemaker in sooner. My ejection fraction I heard the cadiologist tell my husband is 8. How do you suggest they treat my condition and what is happening to me. I feel like I am going to be on a transplant list soon.
Avatar n tn I don't believe a pacemaker is used to control AFib. Perhaps your father has other heart problems. The most common use for a pacemaker is to keep the heart from beating too slow, or stopping. Some times a PM is used when the heart electrical system has to be totally shut down, in which case there would be no AFib or other arrhythmia, but this is not done to my knowledge, to control AFib.
Avatar m tn May we at leas assume your results have received medical review and delay for an appointment with your doctor means this review says you are not considered in immediate danger/risk? The only number that looks worrisome to me is the 185, at may age that would be way over my recommended HR maximum. If you are under 60, the 185 may not be considered dangerous.. then too you do not indicate the recorder detected such a high number.
Avatar f tn I stopped taking the medicine 12 days ago could it still be in my system and be causing slow heart rate 40-45 during th day.
Avatar n tn I am a software engineer which is trying to write a pacemaker system specification for a research project. My question is about what the heart does when it receives a pacemaker stimulus. Suppose that the heart is slow (eg: 1 beat every 3 second) and that the pacemaker lower rate limit is 60ppm (1 pulse every second) then what happens? how the heart reacts to our stimulus? if the heart make a contraction based on the pacemaker stimulus, then when the next natural contraction is supposed to be?
Avatar n tn when they went in to replace that lead they found the other lead off, they also found a black oily substance on my pacemaker. the pacemaker company was called, they told the dr to replace it free of charge. we have no idea what the substance was. the dr said he had never seen anything like it. we are waiting to hear from the company. since then i have been hospitalized twice, because my heart feels like it is skipping beats. now i have facial and neck swelling.
572651 tn?1530999357 Cat, indeed! Poor DJ has been through so much! I'm glad she called you, and, DJ, if you're lurking, I send lots of love and hugs, and wishes for speedy recovery.
572651 tn?1530999357 Hey everyone - here's the news. DJ and her daughter Lori are on a United flight out of LAX Saturday morning, 10:30ish. It is a direct flight to PA, so no layovers. Please keep a positive thought, say a prayer, spin around three times and spit - whatever it is you do! LOL - that they have a safe journey and encounter kind, compassionate workers at LAX, in the security line, on the flight and arrive intact and in good spirits in Pennsylvania.

572651 tn?1530999357 DJ continues to be a guest of the hospital in Arcadia. They removed the intrathecal morphine pump last week. The spot where the lines went into her spine continue to leak spinal fluid, so they are going to do a blood patch on Monday. Here's hoping it helps. They have not yet found a way to handle her pain that she gets from the extreme spasms she experiences, and she is relying on the oral morphine to take the edge off. The movers come Monday morning for her household goods.
