Pacemaker cells of small intestine

Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker cells of small intestine

pacemaker

Avatar n tn I don't know if it's just my large intestine or small intestine. I don't have any nausea or vomiting. The colonic pacemaker treatment sounds really promising from that article, but it doesn't seem like its being practiced anywhere. That article is from 2004 so you would think there would be at least some doctors performing it by now.
Avatar f tn s very worst is based in part on the fact that there are several sites in the stomach where the main pacemaker cells to trigger stomach contractions are found. In traditional chinese medicine, the deeper organs can be accessed by more peripheral local points on the arms, legs, and body - some of those points connect up with the stomach. So it's very worth a try. There are also chinese herbs that could be tried.
Avatar n tn hypokinesis can also be the result of stunned cells. Stunned heart cells affected by a heart attack can be revitalized if blood/oxygen is quickly provided within a few hours to the area affected by an acute heart attack. Akinesis is different from hypokinesis in that the heart cells affected are necrotic (dead). Stem cell therapy may be helpful for that condition. Five years ago I had hypokinesis of the left ventricle wall and a low EF.
Avatar m tn Yes, the condition can infect the heart's natural pacemaker. The heart's "natural" pacemaker is called the sinoatrial (SA) node or sinus node. It's a small mass of specialized cells in the top of the heart's right atrium (upper chamber). It makes the electrical impulses that cause your heart to beat.
Avatar f tn Brettswife, sometime ago there were groups that were investigating the use of colonic pacing to try to help people with your type of problem. It was much like the pacemaker for a heart, but this one was designed for use in the colon. I don't know where that research is at this point-in-time, but you might want to try researching it to see where it stands.
Avatar m tn Hi Bobby, narrowing of the small intestine, or indeed the colon (large intestine) is called stricturing, and is usually caused by inflammation of the mucosal lining. Although I have had Crohn's Colitis (Crohns in both small and large intestines) for 40 yrs, until last year it has always been controlled, barring periodic flares, by medication.
Avatar f tn The B12 we take orally is absorbed by the mucosa under the tongue and by small intestine. From the small intestine, it is bound to intrinsic factor (IF) and then absorbed into the blood. Absence of IF can cause no absorption of B12 from intestine. However by injection it reaches directly into the blood stream and absorbed by the cells. Absence of IF is also known as pernicious anemia. Is your hemoglobin and red blood cell count low?
Avatar f tn Hyperplastic means an increase in the number of cells in an area of tissue. I believe the larger majority of glandular cells in the antrum are mucus-secreting cells, but you'd have to check with your doc about that. If the results are mucus-secreting cells, it sounds like your stomach is trying to protect itself from too much acid production. With non-specific gastritis, the doc may suggest a course of acid-suppression meds and a change to a GERD-friendly diet.
Avatar f tn AVM or arteriovenous malformations- Most frequently, the cause of small intestine bleeding is caused by angioectasias, or arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). Fully 30 percent to 40 percent of instances of small intestine bleeding occur when these abnormal blood vessels, which are located inside the lining of the small intestine, rupture.
Avatar n tn This goes all the way down to the bottom of the heart. The front of the left ventricle has a small part that is also receiving less oxygen. Diminished means less or smaller, so unless they've used the wrong terminology, I would suspect the heart muscle is alive but not receiving enough oxygen for exertion. If that amount was scar tissue, I would suspect you would be experiencing all kinds of serious health issues.
3809976 tn?1348197996 The gall bladder stores bile and releases it when you eat any type of fatty food. After removal, the bile just drains into the small intestine. This can cause some diarrhea and loose stools for some people. If your gall bladder is causing you problems, the problems go away for most people.
Avatar n tn i never felt better after receiving the pacemaker than before i got it. my wife was persistent with my doctor, after two weeks of complaing, she finally got his attention when she noted that my heart rate kept dropping innthe 30's during a medical procedure. she confronted the doctor. i was brought into the er, where they checked my pacemaker, one lead was off. when they went in to replace that lead they found the other lead off, they also found a black oily substance on my pacemaker.
255722 tn?1452546541 This allows the pacemaker cells within the SA node to be in control of generating and pacing the heartbeat. But, if a particular group of cells in areas remote from the SA node become extra- or hyper-excitable they can take over as the pacemaker for one or several beats, or for a longer term. You might think of the heart's cells as a schoolyard full of young boys playing soccer. Some are inherently quick and fast and are always on top of the game, while others usually play a little slower.
Avatar n tn that could be caused by certain types of chemicals produced by cells within the tissues of the small intestine. They might also be checking for indications of celiac disease. The physical 'look' of the tissue will also be checked - irritation could indicate acid is not being buffered as it flows from the stomach to the SI, suggesting too much acid release/GERD. There are many things they could be checking. The best person to ask this question of is your doc.
1704915 tn?1357601254 For those of you who have had your large intestine removed and replaced with a j pouch (small intestine hooked up to your rectum).. I understand that it takes some time to get use to going to the bathroom ALOT.. any stories of how bad this is and how long it took to get use to or your body to adjust. Also I have a fear.. its a weird one but its life.... did anyone have accidents during things like sex???
Avatar n tn Dehydration is by far the biggest killer with fever, and fluid loss can be counteracted by monitoring the patient and using IV to push more fluids in. With loss of fluids, cells will start to die, blood pressure will drop and this is not a good situation to be in. From reports I've read with brain cells, they may start to die at 42c. From the patients I've observed in intensive care, they keep the heart rate low, 70-80 to keep it from overworking over long periods of time.
Avatar m tn I think PATM are caused by minor lesions further up the small intestine near the duodenum. TMAU2 would be further down the small intestine near the ilium upper portion of the large intestine. It would explain why they have sometimes faecal smell, rubber, TMA(fishy) because feces are beginning to smell at this point. I also think it is possible to have both TMAU2 and PATM which would be categorized by have all symptoms of both conditions.
Avatar n tn re getting a pain in the same place may not mean a stricture of the small intestine. You could have developed adhesions, or a myriad of things could occur in surrounding organs that could give referred pain. Check with you doc before you jump to any conclusions.
Avatar m tn I am pregnant and had to have emergency surgery had a hole in my small intestine. Had 2 ft of it removed. I am now home and my incision was not healing just coming apart.. So went back to the surgeon and he cut me open again.. And said they were going to have Home Health come by the next day to my home and put a vacuum pack on me.. Well they called me that evening and said Home Health would not do it to a pregnant woman.. My incision is not closed and my baby is due on the 24 of December..
Avatar n tn I am extremely concerned that this is a rare variant of primary small intestine lymphoma. The thickening of the jejunum and the malabsorption particularly worry me. Does lymphoma seem possible to you, or likely? Can there be idiopathic reasons for malabsorption, or perhaps even stress?
Avatar n tn My 23 days old newborn baby girl was operated on small intestine blockage and surgeon had removed 13" of small intestine 15 days back. She still have green vomit through NG tbe and not taking any feed. X-ray shows there not any more obstruction. What could be the cause and when should she start feeding and should stop green bile through ng tube. She even has passing stool of green in color.
Avatar n tn After almost dying, she had her entire small intestine removed. Up till now, she has survived with TPN only and cannot tolerate whole foods. She wears a bag to her stoma removing the bile and found out on Friday three days ago, that her gall bladder must be removed laproscopically. Until then, she was waiting to hear from the insurance if she would be able to move forward for a 'live' small transplant or a cadaver's.
