Avatar n tn It is lost when amiodarone containing human cells are lost such as skin cells or cells from the GI tract. The drug remains in the body in measurable quantities for as long as 3-6 months. The "half life" of the drug, in contrast to most other drugs, is measured in weeks instead of hours In general, it is advised that you withdraw current antiarrhythmic agent and delay initiation of sotalol for at least 2–3 elimination half-lives of the other drug.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thanks for writing in. White cells in urine indicate infection or inflammation in the urinary tract. This could be involving any part of the tract like kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Do write to us if you have any further queries on this. Best.
Avatar n tn You have suffered a great injustice, and I'm sorry for your experience. I do not know what the black substance was, or what the results of exposure may be. However, the skipped beats may be caused simply by confusion in the heart muscle itself. Your heart cells are all capable of contracting and causing the heart to beat. Usually, this job is segregated to specific cells that most people refer to as the "natrual pacemaker.

255722 tn?1452546541 The spread of electricity throughout the heart muscle is possible because all heart muscle cells, not just pacemaker cells, are excitable. Usually, the heart muscle cells keep time more slowly than normal pacemaker cells. This allows the pacemaker cells within the SA node to be in control of generating and pacing the heartbeat.
Avatar f tn My daughter who is seven now has been dealing with urinary tract, bladder and kidney infections since she was about three. About six months ago she spent about three days in the hospital for a high white blood cell count, a little over 26,000. They found no obvious sign of infection, but was having severe abdominal pain, they treated her for a kidney infection. Since then white blood cells along with clue cells have been found in her urinalysis, but not bacteria will grow in the culture.
623083 tn?1295211081 Not to be eating to upset the gi tract. No iv fluids were given. I got major motility disorder in the whole gi tract. I have lost 12 lbs since this started and about 5 lbs in a few days. The pain has been bad the last month and is not getting better. Is this concerning?
Avatar n tn Mucus secreting cells are one of the most abundant cells in the GI tract. The product of the cells, mucin, hits the watery environment and gets hydrated producing the mucus in our systems. We need that mucus for a variety of things including - as strange as it sounds - sticking the fecal material together to keep it cohesive, and helping the forming stool to 'slide.' Mucus levels can go up and down to a large extent within a 'normal' condition.
Avatar n tn Hi, am doing some research. please can you explain why an 89yr old with pacemaker kept her 70bpm pulse with a fever of 40 deg.C. Also what were the metabolic implications for her? Many thanks.
Avatar n tn Generally, when there are tics, Sec IgA is low. When low, it can cause stress in the GI tract and the tics are a result of partially digested food finding their way into the blood stream. Alternately, if Sec IgA is too high, it could indicate a chronic infection. To increase Sec IgA: Remove offending foods- processed foods, starches, sugar and eat whole foods that you find along the perimeter of the foodstore.
Avatar n tn Your GI tract is lined with cells that produce mucus which has several functions. If someone is constipated, the cells may secrete more than the normal amount to try to lubricate the passage, to try to help your system move things along. As long as there's no blood or change in the color of the mucus, it's a good thing, not a bad thing.
Avatar n tn My father, 89, recently had a pacemaker inserted due to bradycardia. His PMD and internal medicine specialist started him on Coumadin afterwards. Since my step-mother had been hospitalized a week before with GI bleeding due to long term (20 years) effects of Coumadin, my father is reluctant to keep on with the medication now he's at home.
Avatar m tn For the last few years I have had a problem of throwing up virtually everything I eat or drink. It is not temperature or texture specific, I get about 3 bites in, I feel like I'm choking and then I run to the bathroom and throw up. One GI specialist after endoscopy said I had a hiatus hernia. The next GI specialist post endoscopy said I did not and told me it was likely all in my head. I've had a barrium xray and that doctor said I have an esophageal motility disorder.
Avatar m tn Pharmacokinetics Ribavirin is absorbed from the GI tract probably by nucleoside transporters. Absorption is about 45%, and this is modestly increased (to about 75%) by a fatty meal. Once in the plasma, ribavirin is transported through the cell membrane also by nucleoside transporters. Ribavirin is widely distributed in all tissues, including the CSF and brain.
Avatar n tn Flax seeds, whole, will just pass through your GI tract pretty much undisturbed.A lot has written about flaxseed oil but more has been validated with Fish Oil to really have a positive impact on lipids, heart, inflammation, eyes, GI and joints.I would recommend a prescription type Fish Oil to assure purity and consistency in dosage. Do you really need 8 glasses of water? You're probably swallowing quite a bit of air with that.
Avatar n tn I am NOT a doctor but I do know where you are right now and it is difficult. After my last GYN surgery in 1989 my surgeon "suggested" I take Phayzme (simethecone) after each meal and at bed time and I still do, it does help.
696415 tn?1228229959 The sinoatrial node (SA node) is a group of cells positioned on the wall of the right atrium, near the entrance of the superior vena cava. Cells in the SA node will naturally discharge at about 70-80 times per minute. Because the sinoatrial node is responsible for the rest of the heart's electrical activity, it is sometimes called the primary pacemaker, the natural pacemaker.
