255722 tn?1452546541 The spread of electricity throughout the heart muscle is possible because all heart muscle cells, not just pacemaker cells, are excitable. Usually, the heart muscle cells keep time more slowly than normal pacemaker cells. This allows the pacemaker cells within the SA node to be in control of generating and pacing the heartbeat.
Avatar n tn The sinus atrial node is a clump of cells in your heart that put out an electrical current that causes the rest of your cells in the atrial center of your heart to contract. The electrical current continues into the ventricular node and causes the bottom of the heart to contract immediately after that.

Avatar n tn You have suffered a great injustice, and I'm sorry for your experience. I do not know what the black substance was, or what the results of exposure may be. However, the skipped beats may be caused simply by confusion in the heart muscle itself. Your heart cells are all capable of contracting and causing the heart to beat. Usually, this job is segregated to specific cells that most people refer to as the "natrual pacemaker.
Avatar n tn Hi, am doing some research. please can you explain why an 89yr old with pacemaker kept her 70bpm pulse with a fever of 40 deg.C. Also what were the metabolic implications for her? Many thanks.
9314345 tn?1409636047 How often is this occurring? It's common for people to experience premature (ectopic) beats when laying down. There are several beats that are referred to as premature beats. PACs Premature Atrial Contractions and PVCs Premature Ventricular Contractions are the most common two. Your heart has a pacemaker in the top, and when that pacemaker discharges, other cells, starting in the top of your heart and working to the bottom, contract and forces the blood out of the heart.
696415 tn?1228229959 The sinoatrial node (SA node) is a group of cells positioned on the wall of the right atrium, near the entrance of the superior vena cava. Cells in the SA node will naturally discharge at about 70-80 times per minute. Because the sinoatrial node is responsible for the rest of the heart's electrical activity, it is sometimes called the primary pacemaker, the natural pacemaker.
Avatar f tn Do you have a pacemaker? The best is to check with your doctor or pacemaker technician. I don't know what can it cause the heart functioning abnormality if you have the inverted T waves? Anyone knows? It also depends if you're a pacemaker dependent or not. I'm not a pacemaker depend. I go well with the equipment which marks "Pacemaker user caution". If I found my heart beats abnormally, then I stop using it and try again after the heart settle.
Avatar n tn When I do any exercise that really contracts the muscle that my pacemaker lies under, I pay attention to how it feels and stop or switch positions if it feels like it is putting too much pressure on the pacemaker. If your pacemaker has been implanted recently, be especially careful for the first few months while the scar tissue grows to hold the pacer and leads in place.
Avatar m tn A pacemaker is assurance against any arrhythmia that could cause cardiac arrest. It won't help any of the current heart condtions. Sometimes, as one ages there is some calicification of the heart valves that cause some leakage, and really not considered medically significant unless the leakage is moderate to severe, then there may be some shortness of breath, chest pains, etc. Thanks for sharing and if you have any further questions you are welcome to respond. Take care.
Avatar m tn Yes, the condition can infect the heart's natural pacemaker. The heart's "natural" pacemaker is called the sinoatrial (SA) node or sinus node. It's a small mass of specialized cells in the top of the heart's right atrium (upper chamber). It makes the electrical impulses that cause your heart to beat.
560706 tn?1216014888 I have used the Nuskin Galvanic Spa facial, and I'm concerned about the warnings in the instruction booklet. It lists "having a pacemaker" as one of the contraindications, but nobody can give an answer as to WHY. So, can anyone tell me exactly what could happen if someone with a pacemaker used the Galvanic Spa Facial? I'm guessing it could interfere with the electrical setting of the pacemaker, or possible cause an electric shock. Thanks for your help!
Avatar n tn If the cells are dead, a cath would not be of any help. If the cells are hibernating due to low blood flow to the area, medication can increase the blood flow to the area....angina with stress and rest normal blood flow. Your symptoms, if any, would be the issue to correct. If you are having chest pain (angina) with exertion and rest relieves the chest pain that would be stable angina and medication can be effective.
Avatar f tn When my Pacemaker "kicks" in this cause my shoulder to twitch rather forcefully. Now it is running down my arm and into my fingers. this is rather exhausting. Should I be concerned Thank you for your help.
Avatar f tn I have an abdomen implanted pacemaker, it’s getting replaced in the same spot 6 days before my band concert. I play French horn if that’s anything helpful. Is that a problem?
Avatar m tn Also he has a pacemaker, presumably this was to assist heart function? What was his ef when he got the pacemaker put in? Is he able to do any exercise? Presumably he has exercise tolerance issues? Exercise is usually the doctors opening line of discussion. He may need a review of his current medication , and some meds do help boost EF. Dont know if this helps......
88793 tn?1290227177 The issue then appears to be whether you have structural heart disease as to whether your lifespan is likely to be affected, and because the paper does not look at a comparison between those with structural heart diesease but no pacemaker and those with structural heart disease and a pacemaker, they cannot be sure if the pacemaker is responsible for the decline in life expectancy or whether the underlying heart problems are the cause.
Avatar f tn I am 25 years old. I have a a pacemaker for 24 years. My current pacemaker is located on my left side just below my rib cage. I want children. I am afraid that the placement of it will become an issue if I am pregnant. I am on day 37 of my cycle, it usually is an average of 30 days long. Although this past 2 years have been very unusal for my cycle. In the begining of last year I used to get period and then bleed again 2 weeks after I got it. This happened until Sept.
Avatar m tn Due to extensive ablations, there is a 10% chance I will get complete heart block and will need a pacemaker. The pacemaker will protect me from lower heart rate, but will not prevent tachycardia. I have 2 types of pacemaker to choose from: standard or integrated with auto-defib 2. Medication a. My current medication dosage has acceptable side effect, but over time when its dosages increase or when more aggressive medication is needed, it may not be tolerable. b.
Avatar f tn These were stem cells made from my OWN STEM CELLS not embryonic. So, no chance of rejection, no extra pills to take. There is over an 80% chance of improvement. My EF was between 12 and 15% before new stem cells. Have not had another EF test yet. I am diabetic(insulin dependent.) I do have a defibrillator and pacemaker. Would be only too happy to share my experiences - they will be on-going!! It is a shame one has to go out of the country to have this procedure done.
Avatar n tn My mother had placement of a pacemaker 6 months ago. She was told that the battery should last 7-10 years. When she recently had her pacemaker checked the physician told her that she now has only 2 1/2 years of battery life left. Unfortunately, the reason for a loss of battery life was not given even after the question was presented. Can you help us understand what has happend.
1744581 tn?1311302411 I'm a 34 yr old female & I have a pacemaker for congenital complete heart block. I had it replaced for the first time 5 weeks ago. A recent echo showed severe hypokinesis of the apical wall. Ejection fraction is 50%. My dr said this could be due to wear my lead is at. I returned to work a 2 weeks ago after being off for a month after my surgery. I'm a prep cook & my job is pretty easy. I'm on my feet all day but I've been doing the same work for years.
1400314 tn?1280731525 d like to know what got the ventricles going again. My understanding is that the pacemaker cells in the Ventricles can take over in the event it doesn't receive a signal to beat. this is called an "escape beat". On you holter they should be able to tell if the ventricles fired an escape beat or if the next beat was something called "normal sinus rhythm" or NSR. usually the ventricles will fire an escape beat within 3-4 seconds of not getting NSR.
Avatar n tn There can be different reasons, but it generally finds a different way around, through normal heart cells. However, this can cause a delay, meaning the right chamber is contracting slower or is delayed compared to the left. This is probably what they are referring to with regards to borderline. Causes could be genetic history, certain infection types, recent heart attack, heart disease. If the cells are damaged, then there is always the option of a pacemaker.
Avatar n tn My daughter had a duel chamber pacemaker for years without any difficulty from that pacemaker at all and she had very severe heart disease that eventually ended with a transplant. She was having presyncope and syncope and went into shock the one time the doctors had the gutds to do the tiltr test on her. With a pacemaker you may have a two inch scar from the insert, but so what??? Are you more concerned about a scar at your age or dying?
