So you were talking 60mg of Oxycontin (Oxycodone) and going by a Opioid (Narcotic) analgesic converter you would need 30mg of Opana (Oxymorphone) to get the same pain releif and most likley the same to cover the withdrawl. You are now taking 10mg of Opana where 30mgs is what the converter says you need. You need to talk to your Dr. about dosage and don't take more than your Dr wrote the Opana for until he or she OKs it.

I do trust my doctor and he is a very reputable physician that has been featured on the local news in our state but despite this, he did not apply a cross tolerance at all when he switched me from morphine ER to opana ER (you may remember responding to my post on this subject awhile back). In fact, it was even more medicine than I was already taking in both morphine ER and breakthrough pain medicine in the two 30 mg opana ER pills I take per day.

I am on morphine and it helps but I am aware that the bioavailability is lower with morphine (approx. only 1/2 of the dose taken orally gets absorbed by the body). I have to take two doses of percocet daily as I ALWAYS have breakthrough pain at 7 am and 3pm. I take the morphine at 10am and at 8 or 9pm. The morphine does not last 12 hours like it is prescribed. Nor does it last 8 hours. It lasts only 6 hours.

When I first started Morphine I had really bad heartburn. You could check the prescription leaflet for the Oxymorphone to see if anything you experienced last night is in there. Before switching to Morphine, I had 1/2 of my daily dose of Tramadol (200 mgs) switched out and replaced with Vicodin. I did experience Tramadol withdrawal with this change and it lasted for a good month (chills, body aches, and restless legs). My doctor gave me Ativan to help with the withdrawal.

It is very true that wen testing for Oxycodone that it can come up positive for Morphine or Oxymorphone. Doctors often do not understand how to read the tests. Did they check off oxymorphone (opana) or morphine on the lab slip? Oxymorphone (Opana) is a semi-synthetic opioid, unlike morphine which is an opiate. If there was an error is the test request, that could explain the false negative. Btw, Opana is available in generic form- oxymorphone hcl ER by globabal pharmaceuticals. I know because I take it currently.

The last time I rotated from oxycodone to morphine, it took about a month to titrate to the proper dose, which meant I was in the doctor's office about once a week during that month. Undertreated pain is misery. Be persistent in your goal of properly tirating your new, effective dose. Keep a pain diary, and stay in close touch with your doctor's office. Ask to come in that day if necessary. Feeling additional pain can only make your chronic pain condition worse. Stay on top of this.

In my opinion they are pretty much just as addicting as oxycodone. I have used all 3 before but mainly oxy, however if I was ever able to get some opana or dilaudid I would not pass up that 'opportunity'. If I had as easy access to hydromorphone or oxymorphone as I do to oxycodone, I would have stopped using oxycodone in favor of either of the 2.

Oxymorphone is supposed to be 8-10 times stronger than morphine.It does great on the pain but like with all opiates you get tolerance.Mr Dr says the only thing stronger is fentanyl but the patches scare me.Lots of bad publicity on those.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's not uncommon for an insurance company to want people to try other cheaper medications to see if they work. If they don't then they will usually allow you to take what does work. I've never taken Opana before so I can't give you any advice about it. I do know that we're all different and respond to medications differently. Opana might work very well for you but not work for me, or, the other way around.

Opana is oxymorphone and is quite similar to morphine....you can dump this, especially with some help through detox - wont be fun or easy - but is doable....

off of Roxycodone and last night i find out that the Opana 20ml twice a day is an Opiates , i was under the impression that it was a Morphine to help with the wd. do i have to start all over again today if i stop the Opana please no no , i still had the wd's really bad even with the Opana he wants me to take them till Mon.

I understand that only 25 percent of morphine is bioavailable to the system, and is not a very practical drug. Should he switch to oxycontin, in lue of his stomach issues? s had to transfer from methadone to a morphine pill before . Has this ever happened to anybody and what amount of timed released morphine would it take to transfer from 170mg methadone over to the other?

I have DDD and mild spinal stenosis along with a lot of other imperfections of the spine. It has affected NY back so much I haven't been able to hold down a job where U have to stand or do physical work since age 30. I am 47 now and now a nerve in my spine is impinged and causing me horrific knee and foot pain. I wajecup in pain in the middle of sleep. I'm on 5mgs 3x's a day and oxymorphone 2x's a day. It help about 25 to 30%. This is very inhumane.

I have a problem with my shoulder where it dislocates all the time so i end up in the E.R. allot. About 4 months ago i was given morphine before they put my shoulder back in and i developed a raised itchy rash where they had injected it on my arm.
