Theres also Percoden which is oxycodone and asprin. Oxymorphone is a totally different drug 2x the strenth of oxycodone.

Here is another example, if a patient is taking 10 mg of oxymorphone per day and wants to switch from oxymorphone to oxycodone, the patient would need to be dosed twice the amount of his oxymorphone dosage as mgs of oxycodone (10 mg of oxymorphone = 20 mg of oxycodone).

I spoke to another person who said that she takes oxycodone and it helps her with the pain and it does not make her as drowsy. I work in a very stressful position which requires me to make snap decisions so the drowsiness does not help and I also sit at a computer most of the day.. Everyone is different and what works for one person may not for another. Give the new med a bit of time to see if it helps. How often are you taking the Opana ER versus how often were you taking the oxycodone?

I wonder if a semi synthetic pill like oxycodone, instead of codeine and morphine would be a better euphoriant for the dysphoria I feel inside from hurting piercings. Also I wonder if the poppy seed tea is adding to the hemorrhaging because of excess body fluids being pressurized into my body for later expelling. I bet a semi synthetic like oxycodone would be the best, maybe oxymorphone? Maybe if I make the poppy seed tea into a resin to take as a pill, that might help.

So you are using Opana ER 10mg twice a day? Because of your many years of pain and opioid medication, you are highly tolerant to opioids analgesics. This means that you need more opioid to achieve the same amount of pain relief. My question is: why does your doctor want to change the Duragesic to Opana ER? Also, how long after changing from Duragesic to Opana ER did you begin to feel more pain?

No I gave not built up a tolerance because I only take the oxycidibe when I need it. What U do is rake 5nfs if oxycodone and 3 or 4 hours later take another tablet. I never double the dose. I think 10mgs is the minimum I should be prescribed. Are any if you in the sane situation as I am. I'm very angry about this!!!

Hello. I am prescribed Oxycodone and Hydrocodone for pain. My doctor told me that my last drug screening came up positive for Opana ER. I have never taken Opana. How in the world could this have happened? I know many people won't believe me, but it's the truth. I'm just trying to figure out how this could happen. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Oxycodone is about half as strong as Oxymorphone per mg. So you were talking 60mg of Oxycontin (Oxycodone) and going by a Opioid (Narcotic) analgesic converter you would need 30mg of Opana (Oxymorphone) to get the same pain releif and most likley the same to cover the withdrawl. You are now taking 10mg of Opana where 30mgs is what the converter says you need. You need to talk to your Dr. about dosage and don't take more than your Dr wrote the Opana for until he or she OKs it.

Lastly, Fentanyl is one of the the better medications for those with renal (kidney) or heptic (liver) impairement. Dilaudid is as well. Oxycodone (with and without tylenol) and Hydrocodone are both not recommended due to the additional metabolism by the liver into oxymorphone and hydromorphone, respectively. There is still some work on the liver regardless to process opioids but Fentanyl, Dilaudid (hydromorphone), and Opana (oxymorphone) put less strain on the liver.

Hi Krista! I've had severe chronic pain since 1983 and was diagnosed with HCV in 1986 and with cirrhosis in 2004. Before my liver got so bad I used a variety of different pain meds, but have had to be way more careful since 2004. For the last year I've been using Opana (oxymorphone) ER twice daily and a small dose of oxymorphone IR for breakthrough pain. It has worked well for me, contains no acetaminophen, is okay with my hepatologist, and has fewer supply hassles than OxyContin did.

Your sister might need a stronger short acting pain medication to compliment the fentanyl patch such as liquid morphine (what Dee mentioned) or liquid oxycodone. There is also short acting dilaudid (hydromorphone) or opana (oxymorphone) - oxymorphone is stronger than hydromorphone. The fentanyl patch strengths go up to 100 mcg/hr and the prescription leaflet shows dosing up to 300 mcg/hr so there is a lot of wiggle room with the fentanyl patches to hopefully give her some relief.

Consider that Percocet tablets-- medications used to treat surgical pain in dose ranges of 1-2 every 4 hours-- contain 5-10 mg of oxycodone. You are taking the equivalent of 70 of the 5 mg tabs every day, when the dose after major surgery would be on the order of 5-10 tablets per day. The largest dose I've seen in a patient addicted to oxycodone is about 700 mg per day. Most people addicted to oxycodone in my practice were taking around 200-300 mg per day.

Being discharged for a failed urine test-not having the prescribed vicodin in your system, AND having oxycodone NOT prescribed show up positive is likely going to make it very difficult, if not highly unlikely that another doctor will take you on as a new patient for some time.

I am going through serious withdrawal. I suffer chronic back and hip pain and my doctor can't seem to find the source of the pain. So I started to medicate myself. I started off with oxy 30s. then I started dating a guy who also is in chronic pain and when I would start getting "sick" from not being able to get the 30s he gave he some of his oxymorphone, opana, and I don't want to continue taking his meds anymore.
