Avatar n tn My daughter, who lives 2 hrs away, came to visit on Thursday and informed me she has been taking onycontin. Today is Saturday and she has been going through withdrawal. How can I help her? I've been giving her Ibuprophen and last night Nyquil to help her sleep. Should she drink lots of water? Warm baths? Swim pool? Also, my husband has some vicodin left over from past...but am afraid to give her that. Any suggestions to help?
Avatar f tn Would substituting hydrocodone for oxycontin help me in my efforts to withdraw from 40 mg twice a day of oxycontin. I'm getting terrible leg pains and restless legs, plus stomach bloating, cramps and severe digestive problems. I thought something was really wrong with my stomach until I read that those are normal detox symptoms. Any suggestions would help as my doctor is useless and don't want to take me off the meds but yet he claims I'm addicted to it. What can I do.
Avatar f tn What are the withdrawal symptoms off of Oxycontin of a long time abuser? Is it always different depending on the person?
Avatar n tn What is amazing to me is that the VA doctor just cut him off, has not offered any help, or advise, about withdrawal. She said she would see him next week, for his regularly scheduled appointment.
Avatar n tn How can I best help my niece (age 51) with her with her withdrawal. Approximately one year ago she was prescribed Oxycontin (180 mg per day) for relief from pain of fibromyalgia, DDD and carpal tunnel. Her doctor stopped prescribing about 7-8 months ago and she has been getting it from a friend. She is tired of the addiction and seems determined to kick it. I want to help her succeed but need some advice.

Avatar m tn They should be able to help you with a taper plan so that you can come off of them safely and with as minimal withdrawal symptoms as possible. Also your Doctor can help you address your pain issues and alternatives to the narcotics. Others will weigh in with additional advice. Please feel free to keep posting with any questions and for moral support. Most of us have been in very similar situations. We are here to help. Take care, I wish you all the best.
Avatar m tn Is there anyone who has any tips for how to go through a bad oxycontin withdrawal? I am wondering if there are any specific foods, vitamins, activities etc. that will help shorten or relieve the inevitable withdrawals. I feel so foolish for ever getting myself addicted to these horrible things. It started when I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed years ago and the doctor gave me a prescription. Now I have been off an on them for years. I need to get my life back.
Avatar f tn Hi I have been relying on 20mg of controlled release oxycontin to wake-up in the morning for months now. I have been starting with 20 then as that wears of I take another 20. The most I have taken in a day is 80mg. Forgot to mention that I have been chewing them before swallowing. Do you think this will be hard to get off? and what am I going to feel?
Avatar f tn It was a pretty bad knee and I had the oxycontin/endone for about three weeks. I suffered badly with the withdrawal and four plus weeks post op went to my general practitioner and said I wanted something for the pain, but without side effects or constipation. She recommended panadol osteo, which is strong panadol and timed release. Not magic but a great help as long as I keep taking eight hourly. I wish someone had told me about this earlier.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, everything we do has consequences. A person tolerant to opiates will go through withdrawal as the tolerance comes down. The symptoms can be minimized by tapering the medication slowly, although many people cannot do that kind of taper, as they cannot control their use to that extent. You mentioned that you 'got him back into it' speaking of your BF and narcotics-- you don't have that power either.
Avatar n tn I am new to this website, however not new to addiction. I was on oxycontin about 3 years ago and ended up having to do the rapid detox to get off of them. I did really well up until I had my baby (by c-section) 6 months ago and was giving perocet 10/325, then a month later I had my appendics removed and given more perocets. Needless to say I have been taking them for the past 6 months and enough is enough. I can honestly say I never abused them this go around.
Avatar f tn Hi again. I noticed your post about oxycontin. That's another med I'm on that I want to get off, as with all the other meds I'm on, as none are working any more for what they were prescribed for in the first place. I have to deal with tramadol withdrawal first though. Anyway, I'm on 20mg oxycontin morning, and 30mg afternoon, plus oxycodone 5-10mg for breakthrough pain.
Avatar m tn In my and others experience, the best withdrawal method is a process of cutting back your dosage over time. Going into a rehab unit is pure hell. And anyway you are not an addict. Take it slow friend. In my humble opinion the vicodin you may want to stay on the longest. Percs make me feel depressed. Vicodin does not do that. I am a pain patient. This may sound counter intuitive but oxycontin acts longer with getting a less addictive buzz or high like one does on vikes(hydrocodone).
