Oxycontin ir

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycontin ir

oxycontin

Avatar f tn there no such thing as Oxycontin IR. It could be Oxycodone IR. Theres a H U G E difference between Oxycontin and Oxycodone. But if you can skip a day between doses and have only been taking then for a couple of months the withdrawls will be mild if any. Stop now while you can!!! Good Luck!
Avatar n tn I was originally taking 120 mg of oxycontin and 20 of oxy ir each day. I am now taking 40 mg of oxycontin and 10 of oxy ir. I am finding the lower my dosage goes the harder it is to taper off. I am doing this with my doctors support, I have been taking these drugs for over 4 years due to a severe injury. I would appreciate any advice. I am thinking of just stopping all of it and suffering through the withdrawl rather than it lasting for a few more months. any advice?
Avatar m tn I have built up a tolerance to oxycodone IR that I have had to take 3 times my dose just to get my pain to get down to a moderate level. The research I have done is that oxymorphone is stronger and less mg. I have several questions. Are taking less mg easier on the body? How do I ask my doctor to switch, I don't want to seem like just another patient trying to get high.
Avatar n tn I dont see how it could show up different, since the active drug in both oxycodone and oxycontin is the same drug, oxycodone. Oxycontin has been formulated where part of the drug is released as soon as you take it and the rest is made do dissolve more slowly. Thats why your not supposed to chew or break the tablet. It's like taking morphine IR or morphine ER. They will both show up as morphine.
Avatar f tn Hello all, I haven't posted for a long time. I was wondering the difference (strenghtwise) between oxy & hydromorphcontin ( long acting). I was on hydromorph last year and switched to oxycontin & oxy IR this spring in an attempt to keep overall dosages down. The oxy seemed to escalate quite rapidly vs increases needed when I was on hydromorph products. Which is stronger? Which is slower to build up tolerence to? Is it different for different people?
1264863 tn?1391118193 I started Jan 9th and I was taking 60mg of OxyContin. This week if my first week off and I feel better than ever. I am clear, stopped forgetting things, I'm happy! And best of all I have LESS pain! I am still taking some Oxycondone for pain when needed but that is it. Anyone who is thinking of tapering, DO IT! You won't regret it!
Avatar m tn My dr has asked me to think about changing from oxycodone 10/325 5xdaily (percocet) to oxycontin. I've done the research on oxycontin as requested and can see that they most likely are worrying about the dose of tylenol for so long. I do want to decrease pain meds and am worried about addiction. This percocet rx has been ongoing for at least 3-4 years on an increasing dose basis.
Avatar f tn Along with allergies. I stopped oxycontin 40 x 2 / day, + 600 mcg fentanyl IR, but while still taking opana 10s IR 2x / day 30 days before my 2nd major neck surgery. I didn't tell the Drs or hospital staff since it was 30+ days ago. Tolerance was still there though. I awoke in severe uncontrolled pain after surgery, they assumed I was faking for more meds, until my BP went sky high, nearly coded, and they consulted my wife. She informed them of my prior meds.
Avatar f tn Wow...I certainly never thought that I'd be at this place in my life. Ever. 10 years ago I had a serious injury that has left me severely disabled. Due to this I'm in a great deal of chronic pain 24/7. I had been on every narcotic known to man and NEVER had a single problem for 8 years. Then my dr put me on oxycontin and oxycodone immediate release for the break through pain. I can honestly say that pain wise it has been the best medication for me. Here's the problem.
Avatar n tn want to help my friend detox from oxycodone10mg ir 4xaday and oxycontin 10mg 3xday she addicted bad to wear now shes snorting the pills she wants help and i want to help what is your advise
Avatar m tn Percocet is short acting oxycodone with acetaminophen. Slow release is OxyContin. Oxycodone IR is an immediate release medication which normally does not contain acetaminophen. So percocet and oxycodone contain exactly the same narcotic medication, in an immediate release form. On my previous post I mistook the IR for the slow released form. (wasn't awake yet and I apologize). So if you are actually taking percocet and immediate release oxycodone you are taking 120-160mg per day.
Avatar f tn Sorry if that was confusing. His intake is 180 of oxycontin and about 20 to 30mg of oxycodone IR a day. Basically I need to know when he can take the oxycontin without crushing them to work correctly as thet were intended. For without the instant "high" so to speak. I am assuming that he will have w/d symptoms if his brain is not flooded with oxycontin on a steady basis.
Avatar m tn There is a new Oxycontin on the market. You should not cut any type of long-acting medication. Oxycontin is a long-acting medication and thus you shouldn't ever cut it because you can die of an overdose. The new pill is more tamper-proof. Please be careful. Yes, the 80mg. tablet is an extended release pill that releases medication over a 12 hour period. Can you talk to your doctor about the questions that you have? Are you prescribed oxycodone?
Avatar f tn Can u talk to ur pharmacist about IR? IR as a rule means Instant Release...time released pills should not be broken cos u get the whole dose at once vs over hours..instant release pills have no coating to "time release them" so as a rule they r ok to break..many will be scored so u know it is ok..but ask ur phqarmacist..cos he will know..ER means extended release and these r not ok to break Communicating with ur dr is the best thing u can do..
Avatar m tn when i could not find oxycontin i would take opana er 40mg. opana(oxymorphone) is about twice as potent as oxycodone. they are rather new i believe they came out in 2002?
Avatar m tn m not sure why you would ask your Pharmacist about the Oxycontin...they have nothing to do with what your Dr. prescribes. Talk to your Dr. about the Oxycontin. Again..it's the exact same medication as in Oxycodone immediate release. So it is very natural if you are needing so many short acting meds per day that they would move you to a long acting one. People like us who take our meds as prescribed have absolutely no reason to fear Drs. or talking to them...
Avatar f tn I would make sure that this last prescription wasn't accidentally filled with the instant release and not the ER version... And I think you blended two med names with Oxycontin MS...Oxycontin is a med all by itself..It is Oxycodone in Continuous formula...hence the "contin"....MS usually stands for Morphine Sulfate and comes in both IR (immediate release) or ER (extended release formulas)... If it is a 12 hour version...then usually most Drs. are ok with dosing it every 8 hours..
356518 tn?1322263642 I have been taking the roxicodone ( oxycodone IR) for awhile and had to have them switched to a different medication because no one around here ( Florida) has them. Ethex is under FDA investigation and they have stopped all medications there so there is only one company now (malikroft) and they are really seriously backed up on orders. This is so very frustrating as I was doing well on the meds for break thru pain. Are you having to change your medication regimen because of this problem?
Avatar f tn With my last doctor, I got him to replace the two 100 mg ER tabs with two 30mg of IR because they work better for me. Has anyone else had similar experience with ER meds?
5410312 tn?1367531622 I had been on norco for 3 years, and then percocet for the last 2 years. The constant IR made me feel like trying an ER product. My selerium was changed from patch to 20mg. oxycontin. I have been a huge mess ever since. Recommendations?
Avatar f tn I am pretty sure that there are not 5mg Oxycontin. Pretty sure the lowest form of oxycontin is 10mg. Are you meaning 5mg oxycodone Immediete release pills? The reason I ask is because the oxycontin are a time released for of oxycodone where as the 5mg pill is just a fast acting oxycodone. Then it would depend on what you have as to how and when to take easch of which one.. Make sense?
7100466 tn?1392032316 I was taking up to 15 pills a day...at the time I loved loratabs.....then I went to oxycontin....now thats a beast....and I found that oxies always gave me euphoric feelings.....but once again I built up a tolerance and instead of taking as prescribed I took more and more and more....one time I was taking over 4-6 60 MGS OG OXYCONTIN ER....AND 4-6 OXY IR 30 MGS OR BETTER KNOWN AS ROXYS... in the end I was getting sick everyday....my body was detoxing at t5he 10 hour mark twice a day......
Avatar f tn I just read your posts from December where you said you started chewing oxycontin and ended up in the hospital. It appears your doctor has decided to cut you off after trying to wean you down over the past month. What doesn't make sense is that your doctor would write the scrip and then get the law involved. I must be missing something here?
Avatar f tn Because of incomplete cross tolerance due to Opana IR (oxymorphone) being a totally different opioid, you could have great success with it as a breakthrough pain med. Dilaudid and Opana IR are the only IR pills stronger than oxycodone on the market. The next tier up would be the fentanyl lollipops or buccal tablets. Good luck. Let us know how things go.
Avatar n tn question is how to get my doc to understand? I was told that i should be on Oxycontin with no acetaminophen stuff...help??? I know it wont take the pain away...I'm just looking to be able to "deal" with it...but I understand that I'm digesting way too much Tylenol stuff???
Avatar f tn What are your exact doses and times per day that you are prescribed the Oxycontin? And is it only oxycontin, or is some of it percocet--or some other IR Oxycodone? Do you take anything for breakthrough? I have seen many posts from people who take as much or more than you, so you may be able to get an increase, depending on the type and dosages you are on. Severe chronic pain can often require those large amounts, so do not feel bad about taking that amount.
Avatar n tn please, i know everyone is different, but i need some actual responses as to how long you may have suffered during WD/detox off of oxycontin. i took my last 10mg 1/12/08 and still am bad off. i was on 180mg/day and took it for 3 yrs for severe pain (wasn't on 180 the whole time, went up gradually, but definitely for last 1.5 yrs). took tramadol for 1 yr before that. have other health complications but don't want to confuse the matter. am 29 F. any personal experiences please help!
