Common Questions and Answers about Oxycontin high effects

oxycontin

Avatar m tn Accidentally overdosed on oxycontin. Was in alot of pain and took too many. Coming down from the high dose to my usual dose was horrendous. It was a week from hell. Had alot of anxiety, restlessness and agitation. Also was vomiting alot. Having a bad urinary infection didnt help matters. Couldn't sit still. Had to be on the move all the time. Couldn't eat, sleep. bath, shave or brush my teeth. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
526311 tn?1229286330 He is also on oxycontin, both for severe back pain. The oxycontin he craves and is addicted to (currently tapering down from) but the Lyrica he does not crave at all and sometimes doesn't take any at all during the day. Due to the addiction to the oxycontin, we have both spoken to the doc about Lyrica and he has told us that if the maximum dosage is exceeded then it can give a "high" but only in the higher dosage, it certianly couldn't do that at a low dosage apparently.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if anyone new about the side effects of Oxycontin. I am currently taking 60 mg. 3 times a day for chronic pain. I have notice among other things that my sex drive has pretty much disappeared and that I have real problems getting erections if I may be so bold here. So I was wondering if anyone knows if that is a normal side effect of this drug. Also sweating and chills seem to be happening alot.
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone, I was just wondering if Norco, 10-325 is easier to withdraw from than Oxycontin 80mg. My friend was taking 2 oxycontin 80mg a day and told her doctor ( they were not prescribed) and she told the doctor that the only thing stopping her from quitting oxycontin was the horrible withdrawals. He put her on Norco and told her to wean down with those, and that going cold turkey off Norcos ( once she's weaned down to 5 a day) is easier than w/d from oxycontin.
Avatar f tn My husband got off Oxycontin about a year ago. He had been taking 40 mg/day for about 8 months, for chronic pain. From what I've read in other posts, this sounds like a pretty low dose, but he, nonetheless, looked, sounded, and acted drugged, the whole time. He was irritable and yelled way more than he used to. Whenever he ran out of pills he would panic and complain until he found a doctor he could convince to prescribe him some more.
Avatar f tn Thank you... That all helps a lot, my friend who stopped about a week before me said after the 3 day hump she was fine, so I am hoping im as lucky... Taking anti-diarrhea won't make it take any longer to pass will if?
539841 tn?1235394722 I have a standing order with a pain management dr that gives me oxycontin 40mgs 4 x per day for gout pain that comes from the kidney ailment among other things. I will not lie- I usually munch them up at the beggining of each day. makes me feel happy for about 5 to 6 hours. I know this is addict behaviour. I am an addict. I will not dare tell my dr this.
Avatar f tn I would make sure that this last prescription wasn't accidentally filled with the instant release and not the ER version... And I think you blended two med names with Oxycontin MS...Oxycontin is a med all by itself..It is Oxycodone in Continuous formula...hence the "contin"....MS usually stands for Morphine Sulfate and comes in both IR (immediate release) or ER (extended release formulas)... If it is a 12 hour version...then usually most Drs. are ok with dosing it every 8 hours..
Avatar m tn This is a very complicated question, and your doctor's actions are a bit confusing. buprenorphine has a 'ceiling' to the effects it creates, and that ceiling has effects about equal to the effects of taking oxycodone 60 mg. If you give buprenorphine to a person who is taking nigh doses of oxycodone, you usually cause withdrawal. I am surprised that you were able to add a buprenorphine patch, while taking oxycodone, without getting withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn Been on it 2 yrs. after 15 yrs. of high OxyContin usage for chronic pain from 7 failed S-I fusion attempts. I want to get off the Subutex due to the side effects and relief/widthdrawal see-saw every 6 hours. What do others use for chronic pain without going back on opiates? NSAIDS aren't an option due to erosive gastritis. Help!
Avatar f tn My mother has been on Oxycontin now for seven years (I was under the impression it's a temporary fix), or more, to manage pain, she's been seeing a neurologist for. My major concern is the effects it is having on her health, functionality, and brain workings. Her RX is now at 20 mg/4x daily. It went to 40mg/4x daily, she made them drop it back. They NOW want to take her to 60mg/4x daily, she refused.
135691 tn?1271097123 While I was in the hospital these past couple of days, they started me on Oxycontin 40mg sustained release tablet. I've previously been taking percocets and I'm finding that, the longer I take them, the less of an effect they have on me, which I understand is totally normal. At the hospital, they were giving me the 40mg tablet every 6 hours and I literally felt in a constant daze - which was fine, when I was confined to a hospital bed!
922573 tn?1304099329 t want to be on anything too strong. After several failed attempts at other medications (side effects), we decided to try Oxycontin since that has always worked in the past without any negative side effects. For some reason I don't tolerate the new formulation well. It makes me nauseous, causes cramping, etc...
Avatar f tn i had to start oxycontin after an accident.....i want to stop the medication, but have been hearing horror stories...i don't get "high" off the medication, but if i miss a dose or go too late,,i go through horrible effects...does anyone know a good medication to take to ween myself off of this ****...and how long it typically takes...
Avatar f tn i had the same effects from oxycontin. the 'new' formula is actually illegal in other countries, but it is good enough for us, i guess. it contains 2 very cancer causing toxins. that is what keeps people from crushing, chewing, shooting it, etc. they DO cause digestive problems. your best bet is to stay away from them and never take them again.
954005 tn?1304626605 ve just about reached my threshold with percocet and oxycontin. I am getting no real pain relief, and the doctor said that the next step would be to switch to dilaudid and hydromorphone. I'm wondering if I will experience withdrawals from my current meds when I switch? A little background to help...I suffered a great fall Dec 25, 2007 and crushed my tailbone.
909257 tn?1242668182 Pain medications have numerous side effects and those who do take pain meds on a regular basis do usually have some kind of depression due to the fact that they do have chronic pain but as far as the meds causing depression or bipolar no I do not believe so.
494087 tn?1257793207 She has shared with me that the mental addition is considerably harder to overcome than the physical side effects. There are some mornings she awakes restless, anxious and a bit testy, and those are always because she dreamed of using all night. I pray for that day when she no longer fights daily to stop the glamorization of this hideous drug. I hope you will forgive yourself, yet keep the memory of your relapse, for a long time.
Avatar f tn Hi emmaless, Am I reading your post correctly that you were taking 80 mg of Oxycontin 3x per day and 40 mg of Oxycontin 3x per day? If yes, keep reading...LOL. I thought you wrote that you were taking 80 mg and 40mg total of Oxycontin per day. That is why my post to your other thread stated that you were on more medicine through Fentanyl than through Oxycontin. That is not the case if you taking the 80 mg and the 40 mg 3x per day. That is 120 mg x 3 or 360 mg of Oxycontin per day vs.
Avatar n tn There is no way to taper off of oxycontin with no ill side effects. It is a very strong opiate and unfortunately, there is no easy way out. Tapering is tricky there are some people who can do and there are more people who can't. Part of the problem with tapering is that you are essentially in prolonged wds over weeks or months as opposed to full on wds for a shorter time period. The severity is much less for a taper but it is way longer.
Avatar f tn ) What should I expect in doing this? I have a high tolerance. Before they switched me to the oxycontin the other day I was taking 45 mg. oxycodone every 3 to 4 hours. Someone please help here! Thanks. And I didn't chew it, I cut it and swallowed it. Will it still just time relase but at half the dose, or will it all be absorbed at once? Since it's 40 mg. and I normally took 45 mg. of oxycodone, will I be okay?
Avatar m tn I have been on oxycontin for 3 years. I injured my back during a car accident. my doctor started me with vicodin. it worked for about 1 year. then it stopped working. so my doctor changed medication to oxycontin 80 mg 4 tab per day. I would never abuse the drug, because for one reason another, it would never get me high. It worked great for my back pain and the shooting pain going down my legs. There were times when i throw up black stuff like blood.
Avatar f tn Is it the nalexone that causes the ringing? I was on a drug called Targin for two months (oxycontin and nalexone) and my detox has been a total nightmare. I experience the fullness and ringing in the ears-I had a migraine headache for the whole last month I took the drug. Just wondering because I can't find any info on the drug and I know sub has nalexone in it as well.
