Oxycontin and brain damage

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycontin and brain damage

oxycontin

Avatar m tn Recently I read that if you take more than 40 mg of OxyContin at one time then it can cause death or permanent brain damage. Well when I was ages 14 and 16 I took one of my mom's 80 mg OxyContin pill and I remember I felt like throwing up for like 16 hours straight. I took it in the evening, went to bed, and woke up the next day still very nauseous. I started to feel completely fine about 20 hours after I took it.

Avatar m tn The CAT Scans do not show any trace of a stroke and the EKG do not show signs of a heart attack. the doctors tell us that there is damage to the brain, but they won't know the extent until my father regains consciousness. He is non responsive to voices and the little movements that he makes that doctors tell us that those are just reflex actions. What can we expect from all this? should we get a second opinion?
Avatar m tn how could a perfectly normal person have a bowel wash procedure under general anaesthetic come out of it unable read or write, not know who her family and friends are and have no recollection of her own home. she is also numb down the left side of her body?
Avatar m tn Does anyone know or have a link to a website that describes the effects on the brain of long term alcohol abuse? I've been feeling great these last few days of being clean and sober, but I still feel foggy and confused easily and wanted to learn more about it and if I've caused permanent damage since I started drinking so young.
4198232 tn?1365556650 Is it ture that eating tuna can cause brain damage to your baby during pregnancy
Avatar m tn Hi....I think u mean damage to the brain...not brain damage unless it is untreated. There is a condition called syringomyelia and it can be caused from a trauma or even whiplash, another condition that can be there since birth, but triggered during or after a trauma is chiari malformation. U should always get checked if u have a head trauma.....Natasha Richardson died shortly after falling while skiing.....
414333 tn?1226191493 I have heard that long term use of benzos can cause brain damage, this bothers me because all I ever wanted was to get well and I trusted a duck(DOC) Quack Quack Lol...... I have never been on high doses but I have been on Klonopin 0.5 mg for about 5 1/2 yrs. and I am currently withdrawing off Ativan fun stuff!!!!!!!!!! 484772 tn?1313856404 Good question. I've wondered that too. On the flip side, I've also thought about the potential risk of permanent brain damage for those who don't get treated and allow the virus to run amuck. Certainly depleted liver functioning can lead to increase in toxins crossing the blood brain barrier. I second your suggestion to "become as knowledgeable as you can before making the decision". (Wise advice!
Avatar m tn Can Klonipin help with permanent Neuorological brain damage, do to an over dose on LSD? Thank you Clay Woodward.

Avatar n tn I say no bur someone else says that my dog has mange and that it has caused brain damage. I have worked for a vet but he is not around so i ask you. I have never heard of that happening and I think it is ignorance and stupidity to say that.
Avatar f tn I used oxycontin mostly. I am not using now, but I worry about long term or permanent (sp) brain damage. Does anyone know anything about this topic? Any information would be helpful.
Avatar f tn If I get up and get going and using my brain and/or body for something constructive, I am ok. If I get up and try to sit around and watch a tv show or something, then within minutes, I am totally screwed. This is a bad drug, and the effects of it are devastating and long lasting. I have not a any days in the last 430 that I did not have to deal with the effects. It is a daily battle and if you do not treat it that way, it will eventually beat you down..
Avatar f tn I take the meds for real pain, and ran out of the percocet, because I try not to take as much oxycontin, becuase it makes me tired and gives me a headache. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn Just think, you will keep feeling better with more clean time, it took me a month to break out of the fog and 3 months to reverse the brain damage I had done, lol. It is a process, but so worth it. The energy does seem like that last thing to come for most, but it will again. You have done great so stay strong and keep getting support.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know if Oxycontin could make him be this way, or could the impact of the crash, even though he had his seatbelt on and an airbag. could the brain hitting the skull of caused some frontal lobe damage that could change his personality?
Avatar m tn As I mentioned last night, I have tapered down from a combination of 20 oxycontin & endocet per day a couple of weeks ago, to a total of 8 pills a day for the last two days. (3 oxycontin and 5 endocet). My question is, would marijuana help at all with the WD if I were to at some point go CT. I wish you guys had an answer for a broken heart as well. The pain of my wife of 30years taking my two young sons and leaving the day after xmas, is worse than any WD. Thank you all. You are great.
Avatar m tn Was life flighted to Stanford, had emergency brain surgery and survived, which I later was told is a miracle, since most people bleed out in 4 mins. Unfortuntley the outcome was nerve damage which left me in extreme pain. Needless to say I was referred to a pain mgmt. Doc. He was great, and assured me he would get me out of pain! We worked with several meds before we found a regamine of: 4 80mg. Oxycontins every 8 hrs. 4 350mg Soma pr.
Avatar n tn thanks for your info. I to have had weight gain with both Lyrica and Oxycontin but I can't use the second Oxycontin qd because it causes severe constipation. so I only take the 2nd Oxy when my pain it really bad. Lyrica seems to work wonders for the intestinal nerve damage but I had a freind who was over weight and had breathing problems and her Dr. gave her a RX for Lyrica and I told her to ask him for something else because I was concerned it would put her into heart failure.
Avatar n tn Absolutely positively, provided the water is freezing. There have been successful resuscitations without brain damage after as many as four hours under water. On the other hand there are many cases (especially in warm water) where there are severe brain damage after only a few minutes under water.
Avatar m tn My biggest concern is how to insure that the brain infection is cleared on SVR, and maybe this is where brain scans and other lab testing will help us understand the long term outcome better as relates to our brains. There is still tons to be sorted out by researchers regarding just what is going on after SVR....
