Oxycodone vs dilaudid

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycodone vs dilaudid

Avatar m tn morphine is another drug that is not absorbed well orally...dilaudid and morphine r usually an IV drug abusers choice vs a pill popper's choice..heroin is the street form of heroin...not a very sought after drug for oral use and neither is dilaudid...oxyctin time released..if u were chewing or swallowing would be the more difficult of those 3 to detox off depending on dose cos it is well absorbed orally, snorted, or IV What dr would rx u 24 mgs of dilaudid 5-6 x a day?..
Avatar n tn morphine then Oxycodone in my experience. And Dilaudid, even when it is mixed with other things (Dilaudid cough syrup) is and has always been schedule II. To think of it another way, Opana largest size is 40mg.
Avatar n tn He wouldn't return any of my calls so I went to the emergency room for withdrawal. They gave me Antibiotics, an in-haler, and OXYCODONE, till I could get back with my Doctor. Crap!, I didn't even want the Oxycodone, just the cough syrup. I've had Hydrocodone pills from Dentist visits lying around for years that I never took, till I found out that it was the hydrocodone and no other substance, that was suppressing the urge to cough.
541953 tn?1262589826 are so darn conservative when it comes to prescribing oxycodone. Many even prefer to give dilaudid (hydromorphone) or morphine or methadone, over oxycodone for this very reason. So, yes, your 30mg of oxycodone is very, very powerful... and to compound the problem (making it worse) is that it ruins it's OWN tolerance, too! before you know it, that 30mg just won't cut it. There's something about that leap, going above 10mg. That's why so many doctors refuse to give more than 3 percocet a day.
Avatar f tn Is there a difference in withdrawing from oxycontin vs. oxycodone or are the symptoms the same and will the time withdrawing be the same? 5. The pain clinic has told me when I want to get off or cut down they will help me taper down and I'll have "no problem." Is that true? When I taper this down, will I escape withdrawal symptoms or will I still have some? 6. I wonder is my dosage increasing because I'm tolerant or because my pain is getting worse?
Avatar f tn The more surgeries I have the more pain I am in from scar tissue. I have tried norco, dilaudid, nucynta and am currently on percocet. I have asked my doctor if there is a patch I can try so I am not popping pills all day. I hate swallowing all the pills and feel it has a negative impact on my teenagers that popping pills all day is ok. My doctor prescribed the Butrans patch. At first, my insurance did not cover it (medicare) and my insurance wanted me to try morphine or fentenyl patch instead.
Avatar n tn I think there is a misconception out there that 50 mg of painkiller A is equivalent to 50 mg of painkiller B in terms of potency, half-life, withdrawal, etc. This is just not true. The quantity matters when making comparisons, as does the method of administration (oral vs injected vs snorted vs smoked). Just google "equianalgesic table" and you will see what I mean.
Avatar n tn At the top click on clinical information. Scroll down to morphine vs oxycodone vs the patch. This should help out with the comparisons of the pain meds.
Avatar f tn So far no tolerance issues and I've been on this dose for almost a year. I don't think that there would be any harm in trying it vs oxycodone. Good luck in what ever you and your docs decide.
Avatar f tn At my lowest, I was injecting 16mg of Dilaudid several times a day plus the Roxicodones.. Dilaudid is up at the top when comparing powerful opioids with only Opana topping it .I quit shooting up CT and I can not describe the 4 days of torture I went through. Just keep reminding yourself that it will be over in a few days and although you will think that you are going to die, you will be fine.
Avatar n tn I have extreme back pain and I am taking dilaudid and fentanyl. I have tried to come off the pain meds and I can't because of the pain. What are the risks if I get pregnant. The doctors say that I will need some type of pain medication to be able to have quality of life. What if any narcotics can be taken durning the entire pregnancy? Please help, my obgyn said we will deal with it when it happens but I am not satisfied with that answer.
216046 tn?1193947004 htm It appears as though about 115mg of morphine is equal to 100mg of methadone, but there are other factors involved such as oral administration vs. injection and if the methadone is taken for chronic or acute pain.
Avatar f tn Well, here's how it went down. Let me start by saying I broke down in the doctor's office when I started telling him about all the stress I'm going through. We had to get a loan against my Martin guitar and my husband's Tag watch just to get to the appt. I went in and told the doctor "I can't afford this medication and I can't afford to drive all over town looking for it either." His solution? "Percoset 10s work about 80-90% as well as Roxycodone 30s and they last longer.
Avatar f tn I've never taken it. I am taking 4 mgs of dilaudid as a substitute for oxycodone 30mg and I don't feel it works very well. I am also slightly more tired on the dilaudid than i was on the oxycodone. Part of my problem is it just never really takes the pain away in a significant amount. I just feel so worn out all the time. Other people feel it works great, though.
Avatar f tn Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what a good breakthrough med would be to try instead of the oxycodone. (I've heard when you switch from one medication to another you can often go with a slightly lower dose.) I'm thrilled with being off the Fentanyl. I feel like it will be easier to taper down from a pill than the patch. I know I'll never be able to go with no medications but my hope is I can do less. My pain clinic's theory is "stay ahead of the pain.
Avatar f tn I think they are developing an Oxymorphone nasal spray, which has a BA of~40%. I've always had the best results with Opana/Oxymorphone (vs Oxycodone) because it lasts longer, it is more "targeted" and hits the right receptor(s) that helps my pain without the "rush" or euphoria Oxycodone seems to produce for me. Oxycodone gives me energy (part of the euphoria, I suppose) and it makes it tougher to sleep.
5611452 tn?1370974704 They treat the pain, rather the getting you high like Oxy which is not as good a pain killer. Dilaudid is about 5x as strong as morphine. I won't go into IV meds vs pills unless you have questions. "end stage liver disease, then past that it's cirrhosis.... is that correct." I'm afraid not. End-Stage liver Disease is and advanced form of cirrhosis with is stage 4 liver disease. Stages 1-3 is fibrosis. Advocate explains it well. ESLD is sometimes called decompensated cirrhosis.
Avatar f tn I need help on how to stop doing them then more help on how to manage the pain with Fibromyalgia with out using oxycodone and dilaudid. I have health issues at this time that prevent me from using Nsaids and Im tired of using that excuse to keep using, but its the truth.
2126606 tn?1346348724 I can’t tell you the number of patients we receive for detoxification that were given a prescription for Vicodin for a minor pain, like a backache or tooth pain, which eventually led them to take a stronger opiate like oxycodone, creating a domino effect. It’s become a trend in this country for medical professionals to write prescriptions for hydrocodone drugs too quickly, which is creating an epidemic of these drugs being overprescribed to patients who often times don’t need them.
Avatar m tn same principle and interchangeable.. 60 mg oxycodone/long acting, 15 oxycodone/short acting oxycodone/ and 60 mg of hydro daily...add it up it is135 mg of narcotics per day....oxy is a bit stronger than hydro but not a whole awful lot...not a terribly high dose from what i have seen here but substantial to say the least.....DO-ABLE>>>>DO-ABLE....have done this amount of narcotics in one day but never on a regular basis..80-100 was my norm...
687729 tn?1397996327 I am taking Klonopin for migraines, Inderol for a tremor, Opana and Dilaudid for back pain following an auto/semi accident ten years ago that has led me to 5 back surgeries. I am currently in physical therapy. All the meds make me dopey and sleepy. I thought I'd get off the painkillers, but my physiatrist told me I was foolish to think about it while I am in P/T.
1401023 tn?1280784958 I have the opposite effect from the dilaudid vs my "normal" lorcet plus - the dilaudid definitely "plugs" me up a lot more - I noticed it after just one or two doses. I do sometimes have a problem even with the lorcet, but it's definitely more pronounced with the dilaudid - but I'm with you about the pain and the dilaudid - I wouldn't mind teh constipation so much if it helped more with the pain.
1866508 tn?1333988213 I have recently been referred to a new pain management doc and he is in the process of adding/switching me over to Kadian for long-acting pain control vs. just the Norco I have been on....my question primarily is how long will it take for me to adjust to the change from short acting opiate to the extended release meds...
Avatar n tn Steve, Awhile ago I posted a question to you concerning my fluctuating pain levels cause me to have withdrawal symptoms several times a month. Your reply was to have my oxycodone switched to a longer lasting pain med to help with the withdrawal symptoms. My next appointment is comming up and I was wondering what pain meds are long acting so I can suggest some to my pain specialist.
Avatar n tn In order for a test to come up positive for oxycodone, they have to test for it exclusively. It won't come up in a regular opiate screen. http://www.iatdmct.org/oxycodone.
356518 tn?1322267242 Thebaine is used to create semi-synthetic pain relievers, such as oxymorphone, oxycodone, OxyContin and Dilaudid. I am extremely allergic to Dilaudid but not to oxycodone or OxyContin. Do you see my point? Why am I allergic to Dilaudid and NOT either of the oxys? A chemist may be able to answer that questions but no physician has been able to - other than they are just a bit different in their chemical make up.
Avatar m tn I got to tell you that the RFA procedure is not the piece of cake thay make it out to be. When they started talking morphine drips and oxycodone for a week after I should have known. Anyhow its better now as I know yours is.
