For the last year I have been taking15 mg Morphine2 times a day, and 5mg Oxycodone HCI For pain in back and hips, and knee. At this dosage I have been getting some relief.Could one say that I'm chemically dependent. I'm 6 ft tall and 172 lbs. What is the suggested dosage for 61 yr old? I just had surgery in my chest and the pain level is 10 by times 10. they increased the oxy to 10 mg every 4 hrs and the Morphine 3 times a day 30 mg a day. with little effect.

If the oxy stopped working as well, i switched to morphine at the same strength and vice versa. I have been only on MSContin and Dilaudid for 5 years now. I lowered my pain medications drastically over a matter of about 10 years.

And morphine is actually less powerful than oxycodone. Oxycodone is 1.5-2 times stronger than morphine. The shape of a pill and whether the pill is a tablet or capsule does not tell you if it is extended release or immediate release. Avinza is extended release morphine than comes in capsules versus tablets. It sounds like you are having intolerable side effects from oxycodone. That means no oxycodone, whether it is a tablet, a capsule, immediate release or extended release Oxycontin.

I dont see how it could show up different, since the active drug in both oxycodone and oxycontin is the same drug, oxycodone. Oxycontin has been formulated where part of the drug is released as soon as you take it and the rest is made do dissolve more slowly. Thats why your not supposed to chew or break the tablet. It's like taking morphine IR or morphine ER. They will both show up as morphine.

I told him that I'm hurting so bad again now and at least with the morphine er twice a day and oxycodone 15 mg I could at least do some things. Again he wants to even lower me more to morphine er 30mg once a day and lower my oxycodone to 10mg every 6 hours.

i have had a similar experience with morphine-----it upset my stomach and didn't affect the pain very much! Your doc sounds like she (i hope) is one of the "good" ones willing to listen and wk with you. Mine switched me to oxycodone for breakthru pain and it worked really well----not seasick all day!You might try it. This is a good forum and also the Chronic couch for info and compassion. I did some research and some of the top side-effects with the Morphine are Headaches and Drowsiness and dizziness and being light-headed. There are many more than that but those are the ones that were at the top. I don't know if that helped you or not BUT I hope that it did. I really think you might want to consider talking to your NP about switching your BT meds.

fibromyalgia but I am going to have back surgery for stenosis and want to stop my narcotic meds. I have morphine cr 45mg 3x/day which I asked to change due to side effects. Dr put me on Oxycodone 20mg 4x/day. After my back surgery recuperation I want to stop the meds. Which one should I be on for an easier withdrawal. I am scared because I have been on this for ages. When I have the surgery I can ask the dr to use the med that would be easier for me to withdraw so what do you think.

Oxycodone (contained in percocet, roxicodone, oxycontin) is about 2 times the strength of morphine (i.e., 10 mg of morphine equals 5 mg of oxycodone). Therefore, 5 mg of oxycodone is about 16 mg of hydrocodone so oxycodone is about 3 times stronger than hydrocodone. However, geminigirl is right in that everyone is different. I have read that some say hydrocodone works better for their pain than percocet and viceversa. For me, percocet works a lot better for my pain.

I have had the 15mg Morphine and with my experience, it made me more drowsy as opposed to the Oxycodone. I eventually had the Doctor switch me back to the Oxycodone. 15mg Morphine is equivalent to 5mg of Oxycodone, so you might need to take both tabs of the Morphine to get the same relief. For the first time in several years, 10+, her results showed a positive result for codeine, 107 ng/mL. I found an article that said a small amount of codeine may show up in patients taking high doses of morphine due to possible impurities in manufacturing. Is this correct? Has anyone else run in to this??

First Tramadol and then vicodin, and now morphine and percocet. I continue to do a great job and produce fantastic products. My managers know about my chronic pain and are very accepting of the pain medications I take as they don't affect my job performance and they know that I am responsible with my meds. I am on 60 mg of morphine and 20-30 mg of oxycodone within percocet. I honestly think that you shouldn't bring up your pain meds at an interview unless asked.

My wife is taking Morphine and Oxycodone for chronic back pain from a vertebral fracture 2 years ago (repaired) and herniated disks. I've been tapering down my medications (and made some great progress.) So far got off the Fentanyl 75 mcg., oxycodone 40 to 60 mg. every four hours. I had some pretty moderate withdrawals going off the Fentanyl and oxycodone. Nothing like cold turkey, but difficult nonetheless. Thanks so much for your reply. I am now about 72 hours into this. My reasons for doing this are 50/50. I have been flipped back and forth between the Morphine and Oxycodone three times in the last couple of months. I have complained that it doesn't last long enough and I am very unhappy with it...but for some reason my neurologist preferred to put me on 30 mg Oxycodone three times daily rather than Morphine 30 mg four times daily.

Morphine 15mg, Oxycodone 10/325mg, Xanax .25 mg, and Zoloft 100mg. I have been taking the Morphine and Oxy 3xs/day, 8am, 2pm and 8pm. I take my Zoloft at 8am and my Xanax at 8pm. I also take a stool softener for constipation and have to take Tylenol now and then when I get the Morphine headache. Now that I have read several questions and answers, I will no longer take the Morphine and Oxy together, I didn't realize that they are the same thing basically.

I wonder if a semi synthetic pill like oxycodone, instead of codeine and morphine would be a better euphoriant for the dysphoria I feel inside from hurting piercings. Also I wonder if the poppy seed tea is adding to the hemorrhaging because of excess body fluids being pressurized into my body for later expelling. I bet a semi synthetic like oxycodone would be the best, maybe oxymorphone? Maybe if I make the poppy seed tea into a resin to take as a pill, that might help.

I take 45 mg of Morphine twice a day, that's a combination of 30 mg and 15 mg and 3 x's a day 15 mg oxycodone. Before I try to withdraw and see how I feel without pain meds. I do have a question. Which has the worst withdrawal symptoms? Oxycodone or Morphine. I have already stopped the oxycodone. I'm more or less curious about this subject. I often have read debates on the different forums. can you be on faynantol (morphine patch) and mix with taking oxyroxy at the same time? what is oxyroxy?

Hi EVERYONE!!! I'm about 6 weeks pregnant and am precribed oxycodone. I have been on it for about 2 yrs now for arthritis in my back and knees. I take 15mg 4 times a day. I wanted to know if at this level, is this going to cause any brith defects or harm to my fetus??? If so, can you please give me some insight as to how badly the effects are??? I believe that oxycodone is the generic name for Roxicodone, which is also obviously percocet without the tylenol. Oxycontin and oxycodone are the same thing, EXCEPT oxycodone is a quick release tablet, and oxycontin is a slow release of the same med. Hydrocodone is the ingredient in Vicodin and Lortab. Although they are all narcotics, vicodin and lortab are lesser strength than the oxy's and morphine.

Is it only the 30mg roxycodone that everyone is having such a hard time getting. I get the 10mg oxycodone and have had no problem. You could just double or triple the dose if you need to. At least here there is no short supply of that one. Maybe you could call around and check and if it is available let your doctor know. Just a suggestion. I have had a pharmacy give me oxycontin twice instead of oxycodone. I have to tell them everytime that it is the instant relief not extended.
