Avatar m tn The antibiotic dose needs to be adjusted for patients on dialysis. He should avoid eating outside and should take proper precautions with the fluids consumed. If he is aware of a medicine or food that’s causing the diarrhea, then avoid it. Further avoid foods like milk and milk products, high fat or greasy food, foods that have a lot of fiber like citrus fruits and very sweet foods, such as cakes and sweets. So, take proper precautions to avoid infections and keep him hydrated.
Avatar f tn ve had 3 kidney transplants since the age of 19 (lost them @ 16 from Strep) and am currently on dialysis waiting for #4. The machine takes over kidney function. And after a while, because of fluid restrictions and/or continued damage to the kidneys, what fluid one has on board is removed by the dialysis leaving nothing for the badder to take in (and let out). I was still going after a couple of years on Peritoneal Dialysis (solution in my abdomen cycled in & out while I sleep).
Avatar f tn Does she like to read, watch tv, play games, etc? All of these things can be done during dialysis and seem to make the time pass faster. There is a variation of dialysis that "might" help. If someone was to train to give home hemodialysis, then the amount of time per day could possibly be cut down to 2 hours. Of course she would have to do it everyday, intstead of 3 days a week.
Avatar m tn It will not take cancer out, I am sorry, I wondered about it one time too. My sister has been a dialysis Rn for 35 years. Dialysis patients have almost as bad trouble with it, as we do chemo. They have to have the shots for their red blood counts and all that. I wish I could tell you it worked for cancer.I hope your mom feels better soon.
220090 tn?1379167187 It was explained to me similarly a couple of years ago when I made inquiries into Epo use and associated cancer risks: that limited data was indeed skewed by the population analyzed. Since then, some interesting data has emerged via the other "large body of non-cancer patients" being administered epo: the chronic kidney disease population suffering with anemia.
Avatar f tn Hi, My dad (78 years old) is on dialysis since last year due to kidney failure, on top of that he has a Coronary Heart Disease since 2000, so he is on meds. He does 3x a week then reduce to 2x week dialysis. Since last July of this year my dad has been experiencing too much weakness than normal. He can barely walk anymore. Then, he started having too low BP after each dialysis to the point that he passes out & sometimes get stiff.
Avatar f tn I have Celiac Sprue and Type 1 Diabetes (36 Yrs.) (Pump for 7 yrs.

Avatar n tn My husband has been on dialysis for the past .8 months and his health has been fine. But now his last test showed a creatinine level of 16. What could this be from? I am really worried.
Avatar m tn 18 mos ago i was on dialysis and heart surgery and chemo, so i was taking over 160mg oxycontin every day. 12 mos ago i wanted to get 'cleaner' so i tapered low so i could step down to percocets. I've felt the effects of w/d on those three, and the pain comparison is something like this IMO: Oxycontin > Percocet > Suboxone And thanks for the words. It helps.
Avatar f tn She is on a transplant list, but she has a rare blood and it is taking awhile to get a kidney, but she has a job, she has 4 kids, a husband, and her spirits are high. Dialysis does not need to interupt your life. Just don't let it. I asked my niece how she feels after she has dialysis and she said it gives her energy, takes away the tiredness. Makes her feel better. Keep faith and do as the doctors say.
Avatar f tn Dialysis, also known as kidney dialysis or hemodialysis, is a medical procedure where a machine acts like a kidney and filters and cleans the blood. People who are on long-term dialysis (about 350,000 in the U.S.) have a significant chance of being hepatitis C positive (up to 15%). This is probably because dialysis units have many opportunities for cross infection and contamination if not properly used, cleaned and maintained.
19584740 tn?1480461973 My mom recently had renal failure so is now on diyalisis but is in severe pain due to her lumbar problem there giving her tramadol instead of the oxycodone 30mg the blue ones and is in alot of pain I feel helpless but is it bad if she would take the oxys?
Avatar m tn We are very frustrated and the fact that they are not starting dialysis and is actually causing harm to his heart, We are facing the fact that it might just be the end of the life of his heart transplant (very sad) but dealing with it. Just wish doctors would be more honest about what really happens or could happen to bodies with transplants. I don't think they are forthcoming with facts or statistics as they could be.
Avatar f tn My niece (her daughter) said that as the time got closer to her needing dialysis, she became more and more confused and then after dialysis, became clear headed again. We do understand this is due to the toxins building and then dialysis cleaning the blood. Approximately 10 days ago, she decided to discontinue dialysis and went home with hospice. Her last dialysis was 2 weeks ago today. My niece says that she’s been extremely confused and making no sense at all.
Avatar m tn My experience with dialysis is that in the United States, unless something has recently changed, dialysis patients apply for and receive Medicare to cover the cost of dialysis. The social worker at the dialysis center will assist the patient with the application process and everything is billed directly after that. I have never heard of anyone coming out of pocket for dialysis. I am sure someone will set me straight if I am incorrect.
Avatar n tn I did both hemodialysis and then changed to peritoneal dialysis. I can honestly say, that a transplant was the better option for me, however it isn't necessarily a permanent fix. My first kidney suffered from multiple acute rejection episodes as well as chronic rejection until eventually I had to go back on dialysis.
Avatar m tn It would depend on how fast the progression of your disease is to know when what will happen but as far as dialysis there are the options of Peritoneal Dialysis (which uses Dextrose and requires good eye sight to do it for yourself at home) or Hemo Dialysis where you would go in center 3 times a week and they would do dialysis on you through a perm catheter in the clavical area or through an AV Fistula which would be made in your arm but would need time to form.
Avatar f tn If there is then you will continue to stage 4 and then 5. Stage 5 is when you would have to start dialysis and there are a few choices. The main 2 categories are Peritoneal Dialysis and Hemo Dialysis. I have been on both. Yes you can live a long time on dialysis as long as you know how to abide by certain diet restrictions (because dialysis can't do everything that kidneys can). It is amazing how much kidneys do and we don't fully appreciate them until we lose them.
Avatar m tn 7 within 24 hrs. my doctor suggested to undergo dialysis an dafter 3 dialysis my potassium level is normal and i have a creatinine level of 3.4 it was maintained the same creatinine for 3 days after stopping dialysis.. so i am worried abt the dialysis and how can i keep myself the creatinine level and the K level low in the blood . any suggestions plz..
Avatar m tn Now he had no prob with pacemaker and his pulse was always around 80 until last week when at dialysis his pulse rate fell to 43 on the monitor (lower rate was set at 50) he immediately came off dialysis and now this is his third dialysis and during dialysis his heart rate falls into 40s and post dialysis it improves. Doctors checked the pace maker n they say its ok and the x-rays also show initial positioning of the pacemaker. We are really worried abt him.
Avatar m tn Hi there. I have an uncle named Mark and about a month ago, he was diagnosed with kidney failure. Dialysis is the only hope for him to live and the problem is - he doesn't have enough finances to support his regular dialysis. He has not finish schooling because of vices. He also doesn't have any job. He is 26 yrs. old (maybe too young to have been diagnosed by a lifetime illness). He has been a drug addict and a chain smoker before.
