Hello I'm 16 and just had a right clavicle surgery around 8-10 and was later realesed with oxycodone and have to take 2 every 4 hours. It hasn't been a day since the surgery and I want to be off the oxy and take Advil or tynelol. The oxy had been making me throw up so this is why the instant switch I am thinking of making.
I am worried about getting addicted since I have to take it like 4 times a day and it has been a couple weeks now, and I am still in terrible pain, and I tried not taking the oxy and tylenol for 2 days and only took some advil - but it is 3:30 am in and finally took the oxy because I was in too much pain to sleep. Does this mean I will become an addict?
Please someone give me some incite.
Oycodone is in a different class of drugs than Vicodin. Vicodin is a Schedule III drug and Oxycodone is a Schedule II drug. It is stronger than Vicodin and probably the reason your doctor prescribed it rather than the hydrocodone (vicodin) is because oxycodone is available in a pure form without acetominophen in it. Hydrocodone is not.
Oxycodone can be prescribed as an individual drug - giving you and your physician more flexibility when dosing. Oxycodone prescriptions also have to be physically handed to a pharmacist - they can't be phoned in and you can't have refills.
It is generally considered to be a stronger medication, however, it is different for each patient. I prefer the oxycodone, only because I want to have control of how much acetaminophen, or other NSAID I take.
Ive been addicted to Oxycodone for over a year now taking between 2-3 30mgs a day and am now withdrawling, what can i expect in the days to come and how long will i be going through this? is there anything i can do to detox at home more easily or faster? why is this feel like my body is literly dying?
5 mg ffor a period of time ( month or two) , I then found a book book about how to handle RLS without drugs and got off the oxycodone altogether in early 2012. I was able to handle my symptoms without oxycodone using hot baths and some other tricks to get to sleep . I also suffer from moderate depression and use Wellbutrin to help keep that in check. Wellbutrin is one of the few antidepressants that is RLS friendly.
In fact, i am surprised that a pharmacy would actually fill 900 percocets and not get questioned by the DEA at some point. And top it off with dilaudid?? If you arent having any withdrawal going cold turkey, you are definitely the only person I have ever heard of that happening to. Its not so much whether you are addicted but I have never heard of anyone avoiding the physical dependency.
It's a lovely sunny day outside, albeit cold. I am feeling somewhat better and am thankful to have made it this far. I am heading out today to spend a few days at my floating cabin on the ocean, about one and a half hours by boat from home. It's remote and isolated and it always does me a world of good to be there. I can go fishing or catch crabs from the dock or just sit and read a book.
advil is a minor anti inflammatory
I have never heard of it prescribed for this before but it could help a little I suppose
more widely prescribed for GM are some of the big anti inflammatories - particularly prednisone or methotrexate
I did take Naproxen for some time, (months at a pretty high dose - it really attacks your stomach lining though so I went off), which I guess is a step up from advil, and is a non steroidal anti inflammatory (NSAID), can't say if it helped with the inflamma
As some of you know I suffer from severe health anxiety...I started going through a particularly bad time last fall...I am constantly afraid of headaches,fevers,muscle aches etc..as a result of this I started taking advil constantly and I am up to about 10 to 12 liquigels a day..If I don't take them my anxiety goes through the roof and I start to imagine headaches,pain etc...this can't be good for me..and I don't know how to stop...
No you can't take advil.
We just found out yesterday I am expecting and figure im about 5 weeks. I have terrible headaches but I am allergic to tylenol, I have always just puked it up. Is there anything else I can take at this point?

My question relates to liver damage related to the use/abuse of pain medication. By pain medication I mean OTC(Tylenol/Advil) and of course, Vicodin and Percocet. The short version is: For the last 10 months I have struggled with lower back pain. I am 24 years old, 6'5'', 220lbs and generally healthy/athletic build. I started taking a lot of Tylenol(4g a day, but never more), sometimes mixed with Advil to curb my back pain. I then moved on to the doctor and go prescribed Vicodin.
d me a muscle relaxer (which doesnt work) and oxycodone. The first 2 months I took the oxycodone every 4-6 hours. Then I was down to 2 pills twice a day. Now I take one pill three times a day. I ran out of my meds and feel ashamed and dont want the Dr to assume I have an addiction. The last pill I took was on Sunday afternoon (8/19/12) I dont know how to explain the feeling I have in my neck. Its not the same pain I had pre surgery, none the less its uncomfortable.
What, if anything can I take for a headache? I've read far too many mixed reviews. I have advil and ibuprofen here, just don't Wana take anything besides my pre natals, too nerve wracking!
