Avatar f tn With all 3 of those meds, and especially Oxcarbazepine, you can find discussions online about amenorrhea, which means your periods stop. You might want to discuss this with your doctor, as websites suggest, if you're taking these medications and your menstrual period changes. Best wishes.

222267 tn?1253302210 I just started OXCARBAZEPINE. I am really sick. I am on 600mg at night. I woke up this morning with a headache and I have felt like I have the flu all day. I cannot eat or drink anything. I'm exausted. Does anyone have experience with this med? How long will these symptoms last? I have to somehow work tomorrow. I am getting so tired of being sick and tired. I'm not depressed. I'm just coming back from hell. I had major surgery. It made me have a severe manic episode.
Avatar m tn I am taking tablets for my minor neural problem for the past 4 years, The tablets i am consuming are Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal) -300mg and Levetiracetam (keppra) -250mg. Now I am looking for a tablet which should have both of this content in the same. I feel guilty that I am taking more tablets and my health condition is improved now. so I planned to reduce my tablet dosage. so I look over this- i.e.
Avatar f tn My doctor switched me to oxcarbazepine and that stopped the issue. The one extra oxygen molecule somehow helped the situation. Ask your doctor to make the adjustment and see if that helps.
Avatar f tn I’m on levetiracetam aka keppra and clobazam aka onfi. When I was on oxcarbazepine (trileptal) and levetiracetam (keppra) I started having these weird headaches where I would lose my vision, hearing, smell, and coordination, but I could still speak and feel. The doctors are pretty much stumped. Has anyone ever had a situation like this?
Avatar m tn Within the last two months, I have been experiencing burning and pain in my right foot (including toes). I am taking oxcarbazepine, is this a side affect or does it mean I need to increase the dose.
Avatar f tn ContraVir reports data shows CMX157 more potent against HBV than Gilead Viread ContraVir Pharmaceuticals (CTRV) announced preliminary data dramatizing the unique properties of CMX157, the company's highly potent lipid prodrug of the successful antiviral drug tenofovir, or TFV. CMX157 was shown to be 60-fold more active than tenofovir against the hepatitis B virus, or HBV, based on in vitro studies.
Avatar n tn Short Answer: This depends on your metabolism, but in general it will stay in your system for 24-36 hours with a *low dose* (ie. no more than 30mg of codein). However with larger doses, it will be in your system for 48-72 hours depending on how high your dosage was. Long Answer: The half-life of codeine is 2.9 hours. This means that in 2.9 hours, only half the amount of codeine is remaining. In another 2.9 hours another half of that, and so on.
Avatar f tn During those times I had not yet been diagnosed and was able to go back to life like normal, however after the diagnosis and being on phenytoin and switching to oxcarbazepine i am feeling awful. Dizzy, nauseated, moody, extremely tired, severe headaches that come and go. All i get from my Neurologist is these are side effects that will eventually go away. Because i never know when these symptoms will come on too strong I have missed a lot of days at work during my probation period.

Avatar m tn Topamax, Oxcarbazepine (carbamazepine Tegretol) 1200 mg twice a day, And I have some nerve medications but when I am taking my Topamax and Oxcarbazepine I seem not to need them quite as much. If someone could point me in the right direction... or tell me what plants contain Lithium carbonate I would appreciate that. Thank you.
Avatar m tn Have been taking Carbamezapine and lately Gabapentine, which both cause Erectile Disfunction. Have read that Oxcarbazepine does not have this side effect. Have not convinced my neurologist to let me switch meds. What success have people had using Oxcarbazepine for TN, and does it also cause ED? I don't want to use either carbamezapine or gabapentine if possible.
317787 tn?1473358451 The Prodrug affected me so badly that they had to reduce the Peg. I have not taken the R1626 since June of 08, it is now Jan 09 and my immune system is still affected I would appreciate any advice or information you can share. My doctor said that it would be a waste of time to try 48 weeks of SOC since I took that however I really didn't 135iu is not 180 and 43 is not 48. I have been told that because I am stage 4 I will need to treat more aggressively or maybe longer.
Avatar m tn valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug. when you swallow it, during digestion the body turns it into acyclovir. because of this unique delivery method, you get more active acyclovir available in the body so you don't have to take it as often.
Avatar m tn Even though valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug, some folks just do better on the acyclovir than they do the valtrex. My guess would be because you get less active acyclovir in your body with plain ole acyclovir than you do valtrex but we have no studies to back this assumption.
Avatar m tn tenofovir disoproxil fumarate) is a prodrug of tenofovir. The 'disoproxil' is a side chain attached to the active component 'tenofovir'. Inside our body, this side chain gets cleaved off by an enzyme to release the active tenofovir. AGX-1009 has a different side chain attached to the active component 'tenofovir'. It may show higher potency and/or lower toxicity compared to Viread because of this different side chain (At least that's what Agenix is hoping for).
Avatar m tn It is only more potent in the sense that as a prodrug of Tenofovir, just like the existing Viread(TDF), TAF converts to Tenofovir mainly in the liver cells, therefore has less side effects. But as Stef2011 stated, they reduced the dosage of TAF accordingly, so the same amount of Tenofovir is delivered to the liver cells as TDF. It would be really nice if they can do a proper dosage study of TAF/TDF specifically for HBV (and not use the same dosage for HIV/AIDS).
Avatar m tn carbamazepine, clobazam, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, oxcarbazepine and topiramate. These medications rarely stop the seizures completely but reduce the frequency and severity of them. I hope this helps, my prayers are with you and your son.
Avatar n tn Other people have listed Trileptal (Oxcarbazepine), Neurontin (Gabepentin), Elavil (Amitriptyline) and Lyrica (Pregabalin) as some alternatives. I am currently on Lyrica + Cymbalta. I can't say that it's working but still playing with dosages. Anyone reading, please feel free to add your own choices and/or experiences.
Avatar m tn Valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug. Greatly simplified - you swallow valtrex and your body converts it into acyclovir inside the body. You get more active acyclovir available to kick a little herpes butt by doing it this way. That's why you take valtrex less often. We don't have studies to confirm that acyclovir reduces transmission the same amount as valtrex does but we assume it does. http://racoon.com/herpes/v_a_compare.
Avatar f tn we have over 20 years of info on taking daily suppressive therapy with acyclovir non-stop. valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug and we have no reason to think that it's any less safe. we have over 15 years of info on taking valtrex suppressively non-stop now too. there are no long term side effects. no reason to stop taking it unless you want to. why have more ob's than you have to is my motto plus if your partner is negative, it helps protect them too. keep asking questions!
Avatar m tn Last week I overdosed from taking approx. 4mls of GBL (a prodrug of GBH) and alcohol. Although I was deeply unconsious for several hours and had dangerously low heart rate and blood pressure. I spent the night in intensive care but was discharge the next morning. Since then I have made a full recovery, but have experienced heart pains and arrythmia at random moments. These usually last a few minutes and there is no disturbance in between these attacks.

Avatar f tn Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) does not usually lead to hypertrophy/swelling of glands. But there is a mention of allergic reactions to trileptal.
