Oxcarbazepine for nerve pain

Common Questions and Answers about Oxcarbazepine for nerve pain

trileptal

Avatar m tn Within the last two months, I have been experiencing burning and pain in my right foot (including toes). I am taking oxcarbazepine, is this a side affect or does it mean I need to increase the dose.
Avatar f tn My question is if anyone has tried this med for Fibro pain? It's a new Rx for me and as usual I am reluctant to take first pill. If anyone knows about taking this med I would be grateful for any info. It has another name...Trileptal. Thanks.
Avatar n tn The mere acts of opening the mouth, stroking the face, brushing the teeth may irritate the trigeminal nerve and cause pain. Aggravation of pain after eating may be due to irritation of nerve due to mouth opening and it may be worsened by some particular foods. Food triggers are different for different persons. Some people find cold foods worsening the pain whereas some find spicy foods intolerable. Foods that contain a lot of fat may also trigger the pain. For you it seems to be the same.
Avatar m tn Have not convinced my neurologist to let me switch meds. What success have people had using Oxcarbazepine for TN, and does it also cause ED? I don't want to use either carbamezapine or gabapentine if possible.
Avatar m tn I am taking tablets for my minor neural problem for the past 4 years, The tablets i am consuming are Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal) -300mg and Levetiracetam (keppra) -250mg. Now I am looking for a tablet which should have both of this content in the same. I feel guilty that I am taking more tablets and my health condition is improved now. so I planned to reduce my tablet dosage. so I look over this- i.e.
Avatar f tn I just started taking oxcarbazepine 9 days ago and I built up to 300 mg,no high not even close. Not like with other drugs like oxycontin, were with in 30 min you get a buzz.I guess you have to take higher doses if thats were you want to go,but I dont know.
Avatar m tn Lithium Orotate is a lithium salt containing lithium as a orotate ion not a cabonate and is sold by health food stores and more than a few shady online sellers as everything from a cure for depression to an alternative to normal medical treatment. There is a misguided belief among some that its more green and more natural than Lithium Carbonate which of course is hilarious as both are versions of the same substance.
Avatar m tn Ok personal info first, 26 male, have grand mal seizures ive had them for over 2 years i believe. 1. medication im on is Oxcarbazepine 300mg 2. when im tired i get these spasms that really screw up my life. 3. i have a frectured shoulder which i got from a car accident before i started having seziures. Question.... is there anyway my shoulder is the cause for my seziures?? and if i get it fixed is there a chance i wont have seziures anymore?
Avatar n tn I am not sure what the comp levels are but I am aware of what the CBC and oxcarbazepine are for. If it were lukemia wouldn't the WBC be high? I have joint problems my self and have been tested for lupus and RA, they were negative. So I don't think it would be that. Due to the fact it is mainly genetic. I did notice that when the lab drew his blood, it took about 20 minutes for the puncture to stop bleeding. Is that abnormal? When I took him to his dr.
Avatar f tn Hi callie, Unfortunately, there is no test that will prove you have TN. Mostly, doctors run a battery of tests to rule out everything else. There is a thin-slice MRI - called "Trigeminal Protocol" that will look for blood vessels/veins compressing the TN nerve -- however lots of people have a compression that does not show up on the MRI. Doctors also use MRIs to rule out tumors or Multiple Sclerosis that could be causing your pain.
Avatar f tn With all 3 of those meds, and especially Oxcarbazepine, you can find discussions online about amenorrhea, which means your periods stop. You might want to discuss this with your doctor, as websites suggest, if you're taking these medications and your menstrual period changes. Best wishes.
222267 tn?1253302210 Yes I took Trileptal (the brand name of what you are taking) years ago. It didn't work out for me but not for the reasons you said. Some people have found it tolerable and effective. It is clinically related to Tegretol which requires regular bloodtests to monitor for loss of white blood cells (which does not often occur but still must be tested for). It rarely happens with Trileptal, unlike Tegretol but it can on occasion.
Avatar f tn There has never been much research done on subs, for addiction recovery and especially cross medication research. There is more research on buprenorphine as a pain reliever in low dose for short term use. You won't find the answer to your question, if you do, it will be the effect the combo had on the person who tried it. I have used subs with lithium only. There seems to be no negative effect. I tapered off it as soon as the lithium was working good enough.
Avatar n tn Medications used for this include Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Oxcarbazepine, Pregabalin, Neurontin, and others used for other conditions such as epilepsy or seizures. The medications reduce the frequency and severity of episodes, however the symptoms usually recur, and rarely they do disappear completely. Spinal stenosis should not be causing symptoms in your face.
1108262 tn?1273179266 I just found this post. Yes I take trileptal or also known as oxcarbazepine 300mg for about 3 months. 3 a day everyday. I know it's not long. The very first day I took the medicion I started laughing on it for no reason. I felt really happy and I didn't want to argue. I just wanted to sit around laughing and having a good ol time. And for several weeks same thing but sometimes I felt like I was dying to get out of the house and do something. Then in the third week nothing.
Avatar m tn hi my son aged 11 years has been on sodium valproate (valparin syrup) 6 ml twice a day for the past 8 years. he has had the same dosage for all these years and no seizures. once a year my neurologist makes him have a sleep deprived eeg that has been coming abnormal so he has asked us to continue the medication. this year he ahs suddeny asked us to chnage to keppra. i am confused now because this is rather sudden and my son is used to the valparin now and has no side effects as such.
Avatar f tn I take Carbamazepine for ATN and have a new, rare reoccurring rash on my legs. My Dr. says they are not related, but when I researched it there were a few articles that indicated Carbamazepine could cause the rash.
Avatar n tn The vagus nerve and hypoglossal nerves are responsible for swallowing. The trigeminal is responsible for chewing. Take the nerves out of balance and your digestion system will eventually break down. Over 50% of your digestion starts and completes in the mouth. Improper nerve and muscle function of your jaws will eventually lead to other digestive problems. In some patients, we even see signs of respiratory problems develop.
1045086 tn?1332126422 m NOT suggesting anyone make independent changes with their medications. These drugs can help control nerve pain, making daily life bearable. Apparently, ESPECIALLY IN THE FIRST SIX MONTHS OF USE, they can also raise the risk of suicide. We just need to be aware. One of our members had a depressive type response to a drug recently (I just can't remember what it was) and hadn't connected it to the new Rx.
Avatar f tn I’m on levetiracetam aka keppra and clobazam aka onfi. When I was on oxcarbazepine (trileptal) and levetiracetam (keppra) I started having these weird headaches where I would lose my vision, hearing, smell, and coordination, but I could still speak and feel. The doctors are pretty much stumped. Has anyone ever had a situation like this?
Avatar n tn Have to say after years without it I am totally unprepared for how bad it is. Now on tramadol for the pain and will check options for actual treatment but really just want a quick fix!
Avatar m tn I submitted a request to add an additional forum to MedHelp to cover Peripheral nerve hyperexcitability (PNH) disorders, which sometimes have very similiar symptoms to MS. So far I haven't heard any feedback on whether it will be added or not. (http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/674264) I take that as "probably not"... :( Peripheral nerve hyperexcitability (PNH) covers a spectrum of disorders that exhibit the symptoms of continuous involuntary muscle fiber activity.
Avatar f tn During those times I had not yet been diagnosed and was able to go back to life like normal, however after the diagnosis and being on phenytoin and switching to oxcarbazepine i am feeling awful. Dizzy, nauseated, moody, extremely tired, severe headaches that come and go. All i get from my Neurologist is these are side effects that will eventually go away. Because i never know when these symptoms will come on too strong I have missed a lot of days at work during my probation period.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the reply. I have never cmopletely blacked out, only partially. The hand shaking was really weird, and seizure was the first thing that came to mind. Do my symptoms sound like something that could casue this? What does this medication do that you mentioned above?
Avatar f tn ve presented and giving you reasons why they may be happening or telling you about how unlikely it is for an active 18 year old young man to have DVT, I'm going to give you better advice. Please see your PCP for a COMPLETE physical work-up and discuss with him/her your health anxiety. If all your tests return normal, which I'm sure they will, then I advise you to get into therapy to understand the root cause of this anxiety and begin to rid your life of it.
Avatar f tn I am having really awful intermittent pain in my arm. My neuro wrote a script for Lyrica. My big concern about these nerve pain drugs (Neurontin too) is the weight gain side effect. I struggle w/weight as it is and don't look forward to adding more. Please let me know what you may have experienced.
Avatar f tn Surgical techniques used for use in back pain: nerve burning vs blocking and risks involved. Mostly concerned with the nerve burning for back pain risk vs results.
Avatar n tn I know Lyrica is for nerve pain. In the past, anti-inflammatories have done absolutely nothing for me, so I don't believe that my pain is being caused by inflammation, as one of my docs suggested. I may as well have been taking candy. I just know that I don't want to continue on the vicodin, but I need something. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask...
