Avatar n tn Is it possible my dad damaged his brain from alcohol? even though he had about 15 years of sober living before the illness? I am so scared about my future. I cannot eat or breathe. Therapist told me to live each day and not worry. BUT HOW CAN I? in tears...
Avatar f tn To overcome anxiety, one must understand the logic of why the brain is feeling threatened, it sends messages to the body saying its under threat. New pathways need to be created to overcome the old programming. So for example, if you panic over a fear of flying, you must start flying and let the brain realise that its all okay, and reprogram the thoughts. However, the fear of dying can't really be practiced. Some buddhists meditate in a morgue as it is the closest we can get to dying.

Since then i got more feared.
Avatar n tn The anxiety produced when confronted with height creates what is near panic. The fear only exhibits itself primarily on the ground and outside.. I do not have a fear of flying in a jet airplane or inside tall buildings. It has become a real problem for me to enjoy skiing. I'm ok as long as I don't have any major "drop offs" thus limiting the area's where I can ski. I've tried to overcome the fear with little success. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Avatar m tn Agreed. But some of these fears can be overcome. Puppies and chicks tend to be fast moving. Find the right kind of puppy at a pound or store, and I bet his response will be different.

Avatar n tn gov/pmc/articles/PMC3830168/ This is typically treated like phobias and anxiety conditions with the recommendation to work with a psychiatrist and counselor and perhaps incorporate medication. This, of course, would depend on the severity of your fear and how debilitating it is to your life. 1664673 tn?1303042173 m young woman who has been struggling with drug dependence for a while, but it is absolutely imperative that I remain clean for the sake of my future. I have been abusing prescription/over the counter drugs off and on for about three years, but this past year it got very bad. I was manipulating doctors, nurses and pretty much the health care system in my area to get and stay high on various substances. My particular drugs of choice were oxycontin, percocet, and ambien...
Avatar m tn I become so frightened during the period of time where I try to fall asleep that I simply do not do it. I find myself finding excuses to stay awake. It's not the sleep itself that scares me, it's the part where I lay in the dark and the silence. I'm afraid of all kinds of crazy things that don't bother me when I am not trying to sleep. I can't keep anything that is bothering me, any kinds of irrational fears, or any unusual superstitions out of my head.
Avatar n tn Thanks, mate. Your solution sounds pretty hard but I think I could give it a try. Though my biggest fear is not the fear that I'm having, but the fear that I'll have after any medical treatment(injection, etc.) in the future. But I guess I can try not to think about it..
Avatar f tn I work in HIV research, but at the same time, I have an extreme HIV phobia. I work mostly with HIV infected cells and tissues, and I always wear proper protection such as face shields, gowns, and gloves. However, sometimes I feel like I was exposed to the virus. I'll feel something got into my eye, or feel something wet around my eyes. Whenever I get a sore throat and slight muscle ache, I start to panic.
Avatar n tn I had a traumatic experience when I was a young child which left me with the fear of uncontrolled bleeding. I have attempted to overcome this fear through therapy and work in medical and dental offices. However, it returns to paralyze me at times. I need a molar extracted due to an abcess and the fear of bleeding has returned. I have had extractions in the past and obviously I survived but the anxiety continues to be huge.
Avatar f tn worried about the attack, sometimes I thought of just hack care it, go enjoy myself and started to plan something but my fear or worried will just come naturally ,my head will start to be very tense as if my blood pressure is shooting high, like I'm going to get stroke? I don't know why, I kept telling myself it's ok just relax, but the horrid feeling make me stop my planning again, my children is sad that I always disappoint them. I'm very sad too.

Avatar f tn your right, whichever route we take, it takes time, effort, hard work and commitment...your doing so well, not many have been able to do what you have done, as i am sure you know methadone is a beast to kick. but your doing it, and doing it well, you have much to be proud of lady!! this is a HUGE thing to overcome and you should be giving yourself a HUGE pat on the back. knowing and understanding how important aftercare is, is a main ingredient to recovering from this addiction.
Avatar f tn Ok I'm a 15 year old male who has had many shots in life. Not in recent past though. My cousins always talked about fear of needles, and until that time I didn't mind them. Now they are the scariest things. At least I think remember I haven't had a shot recently except for at the dentist. I have readabout passing out when recieving a shot, although would that happen to me since I never have before? Do numbing solutions work?
Avatar m tn Hi, I used to visit prostitutes now and then, but usually only protected vaginal and very few times unprotected oral.but of late, i have the fear of caughting hiv,and pass on to my wife.i was hiv negative by mid october when i was tested using rapid hiv test in india.after that also, i was with 3 prostitues.in the last 2 incidents both of them forced me to use double codoms, but no oral sex involved.now i m feeling burning sensation in penis and lost weight of 5 kgs.
Avatar n tn Ok thank you very much! I hope that you are correct! I just don't know how to get rid of this PHOBIA! Perhaps i should take the 8 month test. But i can't get over the fear that i might turn positve and can't force my self to take the test. But i am also afraid if i don't take the test and make sure i am 100% HIV free i might be infected and not knowing about it. I know this is wierd but thats how i feel and i have no idea why.
1734735 tn?1413778071 As I meditated yesterday while lying in the sun I reflected on how hard it was to discard initially my need for sympathy and turn my fear about the future into positive actions. The good people at Medhelp have now allowed my original post through that contains the link to details about Prof Jelinek's sessions in October and November.
Avatar f tn So my question to membes is how does one overcome this fear of medication. I know I have to learn to conquer this anxiety, so any responses would be appreciated. Thanks.
Avatar f tn As you said, the newfound fear of anxiety can be attributed to the fact that you had panic attacks during your last flight. It is similar, in a way, to agoraphobia. For your next flight, you can ask you doctor if you can take 1mg of Xanax to see if that helps. However, Xanax is relatively short-acting (effects last about 5 hours). Klonopin is probably a better option. It is very similar to Xanax, but it lasts a lot long (10-12 hours).
Avatar f tn I have such an intense phobia of fly larvae that the very thought of this ever happening to me makes me want to die. I don’t know what to do.
