Avatar n tn I have had a toothache/facepain for over two weeks, I know I need to go and see a dentist but I have a great fear of going because of cetain circumstances that happened while going to the dentist as a child. I have been taking advil for the pain and most times it is tolerable but now it seems to be getting worse as it is keeping me awake at night.
Avatar f tn m sorry you feel this way and have such great fear of snow. While it is reasonable to have fear of driving in snow---- perhaps you are talking about the level of your reaction? I know that I too do not like driving in snow. I live in an area where there is often ice beneath it and have had a few bad driving experiences. So . .. I get my groceries (like EVERYONE else, wow, our grocery is packed if there is bad weather in the forecast . . .
Avatar f tn I think I have a phobia of the dark but dont know how to classify it? Not sure if it's OCD related or other. My problem started really affecting my life maybe 2 years ago and has gotten progressively worse to the point I can't be in the dark alone at all, not even for a minute or I'lll become incredibly anxious. This is managable by turning the lights on, but my other problem is driving in the dark.
Avatar f tn Exactly, I have an extreme phobia for HIV. At the same time, I cannot even resist myself from having sex. But I never have penetrative sex only handjob and insertive oral. Thanks for your answer.
Avatar f tn It sounds like a phobia developing around driving. Very common. I'd go see a therapist who specializes in anxiety treatment before this gets any more chronic than it already is. Make sure they specialize in anxiety treatment so they will be able to teach relaxation techniques and know how to do behavioral therapy that might help you stop thinking this way -- if they don't specialize in anxiety treatment you can end up talking for years without getting better. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I first have to ask why someone with an "extreme HIV phobia" would work in a lab such as you do. I have an extreme fear of snakes and they couldn't pay me enough to work around the things. I also can't understand how someone in your position in not one of the most highly qualifed people to know how difficult it is to actually contrract HIV. You say that you always wear the correct protective gear while working with these specimens.
Avatar m tn Next, you’ll create a list of 10 to 20 scary situations that progress toward your final goal. For example, if you final goal is to overcome your fear of flying, you might start by looking at photos of planes and end with taking an actual flight. Each step should be as specific as possible, with a clear, measurable objective. Working through the steps. Under the guidance of your therapist, you’ll then begin to work through the list.
Avatar f tn You are both suffering from a very common phobia. Fear of the dark goes back to the dawn of man and since that time, millions of people have fought it all there lives. Please do not berate yourselves for this phobia or think you are silly for being afraid of the dark at your age. Our phobias are ours to own and suffer with as long as we do nothing about them. Since both of you have stated that your phobia is now interfering with your lives, it's time to take the bull by the horns!

Avatar m tn I am afraid I stepped on a syringe(iI know you are thinking this is crazy but yea damn OCD) I know this fear is ocd but I am trying to think of facts to confront this fear with,it worked with fear of HIV and oral sex.
Avatar f tn I'm 33 yrs.old as I sit in my room and weigh the pros and cons of sending my daughter to daycare because her classmate was throwing up when I picked her up yesterday! Of course I was immediately feeling uneasy because of it and took meds last night to not throw up! I've talked to a therapist about it& it's done no good. This has been with me my ENTIRE Life! As a 6yr.old I sat outside my house for hours because a family member had a virus.
Avatar n tn Ok thank you very much! I hope that you are correct! I just don't know how to get rid of this PHOBIA! Perhaps i should take the 8 month test. But i can't get over the fear that i might turn positve and can't force my self to take the test. But i am also afraid if i don't take the test and make sure i am 100% HIV free i might be infected and not knowing about it. I know this is wierd but thats how i feel and i have no idea why.
Avatar n tn I highly recommend the follwing resources to help you over-come this fear of driving. In my opinion they are priceless and well worth the money. If you can afford them, I would order them today so you can get your recovery on the road. They have been instrumental in my recovery and I actually keep them in the car with me, just in case. 1) The Driving Fear Program - www.drivingfear.
Avatar m tn As to how to overcome this fear, all anxiety is overcome the same way -- you either do it over and over until you stop being afraid of it or you seek professional therapy to teach you ways of overcoming it. Learning some relaxation techniques might help, such as meditation and breathing exercises. If the anxiety is beyond any control you can consider medication -- if this is your only phobia, a relaxant you only take when you have to get your blood pressure taken might be of use.
Avatar f tn need I say more? The fear of being stuck in traffic and suddenly needing to go is a real fear based on a real problem. Generally I prepare for trips, and if shopping, make it a focused shop. No more aimless driving. I have to have a plan and stick to it. Same in stores: meandering around in a hugh store is sure to bring on panic. So again I now plan and stick to it. One department for shoes. No checking out several stores or departments.
Avatar f tn I have such an intense phobia of fly larvae that the very thought of this ever happening to me makes me want to die. I don’t know what to do.
Avatar f tn I have suffered different forms of this phobia most of my life and have seen therapists on and off most of my life. Some of the time they are worse than other times. They hold me back from doing a lot of things that require travel even though I love traveling. I am going to be seeing a new therapist and I will see if he practices CBT. And if he doesn't, maybe he can recommend someone. Thank you.
1390847 tn?1344657468 I have learned that facing your fear is the best way to overcome it, you'll learn that the only thing to really fear about vomiting is the fear itself. I can only base this on my own experiences. Before I had children I had a horrible fear of seeing someone after they've fallen and hit their head and I would run the other way. I had my first child and he fell on the side walk and my first instinct was to run but this was my little boy and his well being meant more to me than my fear.
424549 tn?1308515502 I have the same fear or phobia of spiders. I can go completly out of my mind at just the sight of one, be it small or ehhhhhhhh. I can't even talk about it. Anyway, I was told that I would have to let one walk up my arm and feel there leg's on my skin. RIGHT.. I think I'll carry this fear to my grave.
Avatar m tn I also went through a year of behavioral therapy to overcome the triggers of the intense fear that is panic disorder. But in general, I can say if you freak out one day, it will very likely not hurt you to take an extra pill at that moment. But do not do it more than that one time without consulting your physician, and do not drive anywhere or do anything work-wise whilst you take the extra pill... you need to be at home where you can crash.
Avatar n tn There is something called hypochondria where you think you have serious illnesses from little symptoms that really mean nothing. Growing up I had a phobia of being sick and I didnt reach out for help until I was 16 and I really regret letting my fear getting so out of hand for so long. Maybe have her see a therapist..i think that is reasonable for a 10 year old.
1390847 tn?1344657468 I have emetophobia (fear of throwing up)...well last night I took a lot of shots of a lot of different liquors and i woke up in the morning feeling sluggish with a headache but I was ok...all day I had in the back of my mind how im so glad i didnt throw up and stuff but my body felt weird all day I think from just being hungover.... Well all of a sudden now Im sooooo nausceous and panicky cause im freaked out im going to get sick....
Avatar n tn I have such a fear of contracting HIV. But I have never used any drugs in my life and have never had unprotected sex (I am heterosexual) BUT it seems like I just can't get the idea of me becoming infected out of my head! For example, the other night I was walking with my friend and he pointed at a good amount of fresh blood on the sidewalk and he said he saw two guys fighting 15 minutes earlier in the spot.
Avatar m tn As the others have said, you have no risk. If you're unable to do your job as a result of your irrational phobia of HIV, you need to speak to your supervisor about being reassigned to a position in which you won't be around patients or needles because you're likely to make a mistake due to your phobia.
Avatar f tn yes that is what it is called it is considered a phobia when your fear of it is completely irrational and you will do anything to avoid being put into that situation even if it messes with your daily routines no matter what is going on.
628109 tn?1224363913 Ive heard of AIDS phobia and I do believe part of my fear is because of the terminal nature of HIV. The more I research it, the more i get freaked out. I just need some honest input, please and thank you.
Avatar f tn Here is how you get HIV, the ONLY way you'd get HIV: if you have unprotected penetrative vaginal or anal sex or sharing of drug needles. Hiv is inactivated by air and saliva. Every time you have a fear of HIV, remember that. It should alleviate the worry. If you didn't do these things, you aren't going to get HIV.
Avatar f tn Welcome to the forum! First, you're NOT alone at all. There are a lot of people who suffer with health anxiety/phobias...just search the forum a bit and you'll find a lot of threads similar to yours. How do you fix this? The first step is to be seen by a psychiatrist who can thoroughly evaluate you, and give you a proper diagnosis. Then..he/she can begin discussing treatment options that may include meds, therapy, etc.
