Avatar m tn I went into the ER thinking I had appendicitis, but I had a 10x11cm dermoid cyst (softball size) with teeth and hair as the ER doctor noted with amusement. At this point, I wouldn't be worried about much. I know with certain types of cysts, they will try to use birth control to shrink it. I'm not sure if they do this with dermoid cysts or not as I had mine removed the same evening it was discovered since it was fairly large and causing pain.
Avatar f tn As a result, dermoid cysts often contain tissues such as hair, skin or teeth. Dermoid cysts are rarely a cancerous cyst, but they can become large and painful and can cause your ovaries to twist, causing pain. A second type of complex ovarian cysts, known as an endometrioma, typically develops as a result of endometriosis. In endometriosis, uterine cells grow outside the uterus. Uterine tissue therefore has the potential to attach to your ovary and form a growth.
718910 tn?1230310121 The cyst before was a dermoid cyst. It had hair, mucus glands, lung tissue and 2 teeth. Gross I know! The Dr. who did the surgery said he looked at the left overay and it was free and clear of cyst. Is it possible for a cyst to grow this fast in 7 weeks? I hav already made an appointment to see another Dr.
Avatar f tn They may be filled with hair, teeth, and other tissues that become part of the cyst. They can become large and cause pain. Polycystic (pol-ee-SISS-tik) ovaries. These cysts are caused when eggs mature within the sacs but are not released. The cycle then repeats. The sacs continue to grow and many cysts form. For more information about polycystic ovaries, refer to our FAQ about Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.
Avatar f tn The cells in the ovary are able to make hair, teeth, and other growing tissues that become part of a forming ovarian cyst. These cysts can become large and cause pain.
Avatar n tn Not sure what the cause of the facial hair is as ovarian cysts do not themselves cause facial hair unless they are the type that secretes testosterone (very rare). If you have polycystic ovary syndrome than an imbalance of hormones can lead to increased facial hair. If that is the case the best solution is birth control pills to balance out your hormones. If you have a testosterone secreting ovarian tumor than this needs to be removed surgically.
Avatar n tn At times I feel an odd sensation that almost feels like a muscle jerking in my left side. Could this be ovarian cists? I have hair growth on my back, neck and face as well. This has been a problem since I was aroung the age of 11. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn It could be a dermoid cyst which if you look up just creeps most people out LOL.. It is filled with pieces of teeth, hair and different matter but are benign. The next is an Endometrioma which I had and was noted as a complex cyst and it was blood filled. Usually if you have an Endometrioma you have Endometriosis which can cause a lot of pain and cramping, nausea, etc these types of cysts should be removed and are also benign.
Avatar f tn I don't think dermoid cysts (which contain solid tissues such as hair, teeth, skin, bone) resolve on their own. But they are always benign. So if it is truly a dermoid, it will likely need to be surgically removed. But you should not need to lose your ovary even though many gynecologists remove ovaries instead of removing just the cyst (cystectomy). The ovaries produce hormones into a woman's 80's for good physical, mental, emotional, and sexual health.
20831008 tn?1527294114 Oh, BTW, I am 60 and went through the change at 45. My dad had lung cancer (smoked) and died. Mother died with COPD (smoked) and had a stroke. I think their diseases were brought on by their lifestyle choices not DNA. It's strange that the GYN didn't give me the CA125 blood test but was willing to remove my perfectly healthy ovary. I am disappointed in this female GYN.
Avatar n tn Although it’s not known for sure whether benign ovarian cysts or polycystic ovaries develop into ovarian cancer, the vast majority of ovarian cysts appear to be unrelated. Women who have polycystic ovaries or ovarian cancer seldom have obvious symptoms early on. However, in both disorders, symptoms are noticed as the condition progresses. Because the ovaries are affected on both disorders, the some of the symptoms can be similar.
1389290 tn?1279815992 I had one removed last year, but only because it was a dermoid (had teeth hair and nails in it) yuckk, and gave me a lot of constant pain. So for now, I just deal with it. Hope your symptoms get better.
Avatar n tn the CT revealed that my dermoid is soft tissue/fat...no hair or teeth or any typical dermoid things that I have read about were indicated....is there a very high chance that this is not a dermoid at all??? I am so afraid of OC :( going for my second opinion tomorrow.
728742 tn?1240928040 I second everything that Sandymac said and wanted to add that not all women get the sharp pains; it all depends on how the cyst is attached and if it's twisting the ovary. Complex cysts can have different components; fat, blood, hair, teeth. They won't really know until they take it out, but those complex cysts are still benign most of the time. Try not to worry too much, you'll torture yourself. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Avatar n tn I know that this is a very late response, but hair loss could be due to the fact that you probably aren't eating very well while suffering with all of the indigestion. I know I'm not eating well at all with mine and I'm dropping weight like crazy. I think ovarian cysts do explain the rest of it. The only other thing that I can think of that would cause the hair loss is hypothyroidismn.
330478 tn?1278284916 I actually just began seeing a naturopath to build up my immune system because it is so shot from all of the medications i am on and all of the surgeries and antibiotics and she wants to test me for poly cystic ovarian syndrome, she is concerned that is what I might have. In the last 2 years I have gained some weight, along with some other symptoms, such as some hair growth. Has anyone experienced the exact scenario that is going through PCOS?
Avatar n tn A lot of women with cysts or PCOS have elevated testosterone levels and therefore, have excessive hair, thinning hair, etc. Losing weight and other meds help control the symptoms. Talk to your doctor. If you don't feel that they give you the attention you need, please look for another doctor that will :) Good luck!
Avatar f tn Hi I’m 22 and have two children . I have frequent big ovarian cysts I have had cystectomys 3 times in the past 3 years. They are extremely painful and I still have no answer as to why I get them so frequent and how can I help preventing them . I have tried many different birth controls and I went even with out. I have not had a period in a long time like a year not at all .
Avatar f tn Dermoids have a variety of appearances on ultrasound due to their mixed nature of contents, fat, hair, sebaceous greasy material and even teeth. They can mimic other ovarian growths such as endometriomas, hemmorgraphic cysts and even malignant tumours. I had an ultraound back in October last year which they thought was a 10cm endometrioma, when I went for surgery, the Gyno only drained it (my opinion he shouldnt have done, but thats a long story of the whys and reasons!
Avatar f tn Do you have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and miss a lot of periods? Other than that, I have not heard of ovarian cysts increasing risk of uterine cancer (or ovarian cancer). Have you tried birth control pills to try to prevent the cysts and regulate your cycles?
Avatar f tn 7cms No fibroid... Both ovaries are prominent with small 3-4mm cysts.. And right ovary volume 11.1ml and left ovary vol 10.5ml... missed last month period... What you suggest?
Avatar m tn Erm I just got told hemaroid? I think! They're not doing anything apart from monitoring it but I can't explain the horrendous pain I'm in when I get one if my pains! It needs sorting but I don't know what todo next!
Avatar f tn Its actually 2 diff things, one causes symtoms ie weight gain, hair growth in unwanted place, spots and of course cysts infertility and lack of a proper monthly cycle, whereas polycystic ovaries without the sydrome do not give you symtoms.
