Common Questions and Answers about Ovarian cysts vs tumors

ovarian-cysts

Avatar n tn m 46 and just had a hysterectomy for bilaterial ovarian cysts. I actually had 3 cysts and all were benign. Remember 95% of all cysts are benign. Best wishes to your friend.
Avatar m tn A transvaginal ultrasound (TV) is the most valuable diagnostic study in the evaluation of an adnexal or pelvic mass/suspicious cysts. Cysts, hemorrhagic cysts, endometriomas, and dermoids have a high predictive diagnosis via TV ultrasound. Get a copy of your TV(you are entitled to it) and post the exact results An MRI is usually the next test that should be given as they are more precise when read by the right radiologist.
Avatar f tn Obviously, I am concerned with having malignant tumors. Does anyone know if cysts and/or kidney stones could have that effect on WBC count? Any input would be appreciated.
205009 tn?1218559728 Does my having some small thyroid nodules (non cancerous at last testing) have anything to do with the recurrence of ovarian cysts? I know the thyroid works on the ovaries. I have had problems in the past with cystadenomas in my breasts as well. Any advice is welcome. I am just so very disappointed as my surgery went well and I have been doing great. This leads me to more serious concerns as I just turned 30 and have not had children yet. Might have to move up those plans!
Avatar f tn By the info that I gave you above, is it likely that it could still be cancer? Years ago my sister had an 11 pound benign ovarian cyst. Are cysts hereditary? I am 45 years old. I have pain on my left side. The pain is more severe when I have to urinate and my bladder is full. It is also more painful when I need to empty my bowels. I used to have severe IBS with loose bowels. Most often now, I am very constipated. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn I had 5 lg ovarian cysts that my dr. (OBGYN fertility) wanted to surgically remove from my uterus. I had a friend tell me about CASTER OIL as a remedy for naturally removing the cysts by using "cold pressed caster oil compresses". I tried this and it worked !!!- it actually removed all 5 of my cysts!! Now my doctor is upset with me. Saying it's not safe. Really and surgery is?? People have use caster oil since Before Christ. Why is this not safe?
Avatar n tn Most ovarian masses / tumors / cysts, even in menopausal women, are benign (non-cancerous). They can cause pain. I am sorry to hear that 4 family members died of cancer so it is no wonder you are worried. Did they have gynecological cancers or other type(s)? Ovarian cancer is generally not related to other cancers except for the inherited disorder called Lynch Syndrome a.k.a. hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC).
Avatar f tn The results showed 3 right ovarian cysts with the largest measuring 4.6x2.2x3.0cm. the report also noted a cystic focus inferior to the left ovary measuring 4.6x3.4x4.4cm. There is no fluid noted. I had a partial hysterectomy over 6 years ago, so no periods. My copy of the ultrasound report does not specifically indicate the type of cyst. In the CT report the radiologist said the "cystic lesions in bilateral ovaries likely due to functional cysts if the patient is still premenopausal.
Avatar f tn s as a guide to determine if you have the most common form of ovarian cancer, approximately 80% of all ovarian cancers are epitheal ovarian cancer which is cancer of the cells on the surface of your ovary. Please keep in mind that CA-125 can be elevated if your menstruating and some other cuases of inflamation.. There are other types of ovarian cancer that are hormone driven and depending which form a person has there will be excess symptoms of that specific hormone.

Avatar f tn I am 49 and have a long history of simple ovarian cysts which cause a lot of pain. I had one of these in early May. When I went back for another vaginal ultrasound 6 weeks later, the cyst on the right was gone, but there was now a 4.7 cm, irregularly shaped septated cyst on the left ovary. I am having another ultrasound tomorrow, but am very worried because I have been experiencing almost all of the typical symptoms of oc. I need honest insight into the situation. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Two conditions that sometimes cause repeated cysts are PCOS or borderline ovarian tumors. Are you having your surgeries and pathology at at large hospital or a small community one? Borderline ovarian tumors are hard to diagnose because they have benign and borderline sections in the same tumor. Larger university hospitals and cancer centers have a better time of correctly diagnosing these types of tumors. They are usually cured with surgery, but are notorious for recurring.
Avatar f tn A sonogram will show if there are cysts/masses/tumors on your ovaries...and if they do say tumors, it does not mean malignancy. You are entering the menopausal age of your life, there could be numerous different things causing you to bleed. The signs of ovarian cancer can include: change in bowel and urinary patterns heartburn feeling of fullness bloating There is an old saying, don't waste a good panic....you are worrying about something that you might not even have.
Avatar f tn Are there any masses, tumors or cysts on or near your ovaries, in your pelvic region? Ovarian cancer would produce tumors, not just fluid. There are many reasons for finding fluid, speak to a doctor not a nurse that does not specialize in this area.
Avatar f tn The birth control is to shrink the cysts. (Did the doctor say cysts or tumors? There's a difference.) You really don't cut out an ovarian cyst if it is fluid filled, you either try to aspirate the fluid with a needle or else to shrink it by going on birth-control pills. It's a lot better to go on the pill and shrink them than to remove the ovaries, so I'd be glad the doctors are saying that is a choice.

Avatar f tn So, I think that your doctor would tell you if cancer was a concern but cysts are different than cancer tumors. And if he is worried, he/she would do a cancer marker test, CA125 test. It's a blood test and if you are over a certain number, there is ovarian cancer present. My mother in law died of ovarian cancer. That is the other thing, the statistics are on your side. Young women rarely have this type of cancer.
Avatar f tn I had a transvaginal ultrasound done and my dr. is on vacation and the nurse gave me what the report said. I'm worrying myself sick not knowing the answers to these questions. The only details the nurse read to me from the ultrasound report was this: "Complex left ovarian mass vs. multiple contiguous cyst". My first question is, is there a difference between a mass and a cyst? Also, does the "vs." mean the radiologist wasn't sure if it was one or the other?
Avatar f tn What are the symptoms of ovarian cysts and tumors? Often, ovarian cysts don't cause any symptoms. You may not realize you have one until you visit your health care provider for a routine pelvic exam. Ovarian cysts can, however, cause problems if they twist, bleed, or rupture. If you have any of the symptoms below, it's important to have them checked out. That's because they can also be symptoms of ovarian tumors. Ovarian cancer often spreads before it is detected.

Avatar n tn Benign dermoid ovarian cysts uncommonly cause symptoms in young girls. It is estimated that they constitute 0.35% of all tumors occurring in children of both sexes less than 15 years of age. Symptoms produced by the cysts may mimic other intra-abdominal disease, and in three of the four cases reported in this series the girls were initially considered to have either acute appendicitis or infection of the urinary tract. All three had a pelvic mass palpable per rectum.
Avatar f tn Heartburn is about 3-5 times a week with normal foods - this is fairly new in the last few months. There is more...but they are all symptoms of ovarian cysts and ovarian cancer. In January, I stayed home from work one day not feeling well and I watched Dr. Oz. There was a woman on there that had been treated for UTIs, Acid Reflux, IBS, and some of them repeatedly. But something about that spoke to me.
