Avatar m tn The CA125 is a blood test for ovarian cancer but benign conditions including benign ovarian cysts can cause an abnormal / elevated result. And a normal result is possible when ovarian cancer is present. So it is not very useful. Ovarian cancer is rare with a woman's lifetime risk being only 1.3% per U.S. government statistics which is why women without a genetic predisposition are not screened for it. I was personally over-treated for a 9.5cm benign ovarian cyst.
Avatar f tn Mostly they are symptomless But Ovarian cysts can, however, cause problems if they twist, bleed, or rupture. Most ovarian cysts will go away on their own. One of the most effective treatments for ovarian cysts is use of contraceptive pills or progesterone pills. It can also be treated surgically and this procedure is known as drilling. Other modes of treatment are laparoscopic surgery, laparotomy or surgery for complicated ovarian cysts.
Avatar f tn About a year ago, I started to experience some lower abdominal pain that, at times, made it difficult to function. The pain would literally stop me in my tracks. So, I went to my ob-gyn for an ultrasound. That u/s showed a minimal amount of free fluid in my pelvic region and a hemorrhagic ovarian cyst, measuring 2.6cm. A few days ago, I started experiencing the same pain. I went to my local ER, where they performed another pelvic ultrasound. The findings were as follows: 1.
Avatar f tn WITH VERY EXCRUCIATING LOWER BACK PAIN. Avatar n tn There are more than one flavor of ovarian cysts and some are more cause for concern than the usual ones that occur due to what I think of as a misfired egg. I've had plenty of those along with hemorrhagic and chocolate cysts from endometriosis. Those tend to not rupture on their own and surgery usually is only considered after the size has been tracked for a few months and it gets so large that it causes more symptoms or interferes with fertility. Ain't it great to be a woman?!
Avatar f tn 9cm cysts in my left ovary.how could something so small cause so much pain? what are the treatment options? i made an appt. with my gynecologists but its in 3wks.i did have a tubaligation 3 yrs ago at the age of 27, does that have anything to do with it? im tired of taking pain killers for almost 15 days out of the month.its affecting my work.any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Sometimes even the smallest cyst can cause pain. I agree, you should seek a second opinion. I know that normally they do not remove cyst until they reach 5cm OR they cause a great deal of pain. I would push for surgery if you think that is what is needed. Nobody knows you body better than you. If you think something is wrong, it probably is!!
Avatar f tn Hi, im 18 years old 160 lbs (now 175 lbs) and have a fairly healthy lifestyle. For the past year, ive suffered with sharp shooting pains in my pelvis, and a sciatic like pain down my left buttock and leg. I frequently get pains in my lower back, and it always seem very tender and sore. My doctor told me i had sciatica in my left leg, and that it would go after 3 or 4 weeks on its own, but it hasnt, and im starting to think my symptoms are maybe that of a cyst/cysts on my ovary.
Avatar m tn Hi, I had pain like that too, it was an ovarian cyst that had gotten so big it got tangled up in my fallopian tube, so I had to have that ovary removed. If they've already checked for cysts and told you that you have some fibroids or cysts that 'should not' cause pain that doesn't mean that they 'cannot' cause pain. I think you should go see another OB/GYN at another practice who could look at your case with fresh eyes and give you a second opinion.
Avatar n tn Not sure what the cause of the facial hair is as ovarian cysts do not themselves cause facial hair unless they are the type that secretes testosterone (very rare). If you have polycystic ovary syndrome than an imbalance of hormones can lead to increased facial hair. If that is the case the best solution is birth control pills to balance out your hormones. If you have a testosterone secreting ovarian tumor than this needs to be removed surgically.
Avatar n tn Nope ovarian cysts don't cause back pain. I had ovarian cysts and most of my pain was where the ovaries were.
Avatar f tn Apparently the cyst was 5 inches and twisted around my ovary. After the surgery, i had no pain up until June of that year. I had many ultrasounds done that confirmed i had small cysts. In April of 2010, i had laproscopic surgery to have a look to see what was going on. The doctor told me after that my ovary had dropped down due to a cyst and that my right tube was blocked. This would explain why i have not been able to get pregnant for over 4 years.
Avatar f tn They are usually asymptomatic. In few patients cysts may cause menstrual irregularities, pelvic pain. In such cases medical help should be sought. Large cysts need surgical removal .In your case monitoring the cysts and a prescription of pain killer if there is associated pain are recommended.I hope you find this information useful. Do keep us posted. Best wishes!
Avatar n tn Usually, medical meaurements are in metric, so that should be either mm or cm. if it is cm, that is a pretty good sized cyst. Mine were measured in mm. There are several different kinds, and treatment varies. Some, they just watch as they usually go away on their own. Some kinds need to come out. Others can be treated with hormones to suppress ovarian activity. Most ovarian cyst removel involves removing the ovary, and they don't want to do this unless it is necessary.
Avatar n tn My doctor said that the cysts are not the cause of this but these posts indicate that the cysts may cause these symptoms. Should I get the cysts out and if so, the ovaries too? I am 49 and can't have kids. What awaits me if I get the cysts and ovaries out. Will menopause be any worse than the lower back pain with the cysts? Thanks for any help.
Avatar f tn I went to see the gyno and he was very rude told me that my cyst was only 2.3cm and not big enough to cause pain, and that I needed to see a gastro. I saw the gastro and since I lost my mom this year to colon cancer, he ordered a ct scan. They called me today with the results and said that my right ovary was covered in cysts and that I had a very large cyst on my ovary and that i needed to see a gyno asap.
Avatar f tn The concern is if they get too large, they can cause the ovary to twist on itself (ovarian torsion) which can cause the ovary to die. However, you have the risk of losing the ovary with surgery too. Hopefully, your gynecologist or any other you would choose would have good cystectomy (cyst removal) skills so you would not have to lose your ovary since that can hinder fertility.
Avatar f tn Ovarian cysts, no matter the size, can cause a lot of pain. Scar tissue can also cause pelvic pain, that is why it is important that you get the TVUS and see what is going on.
Avatar f tn im too having 6cm cyst in my left ovary and feel little heavyness and pain at times..I am 12 week pregnant now..is it true that cyst will decrease in size Or trouble less after 4 month? Hope your pregnancy was a successful one..
Avatar m tn Erm I just got told hemaroid? I think! They're not doing anything apart from monitoring it but I can't explain the horrendous pain I'm in when I get one if my pains! It needs sorting but I don't know what todo next!
Avatar n tn Yes, ovarian cysts can cause those symptoms. You don't say how old you are, but I do know that if you continue to have mid-cycle spotting, you need to see your ob/gyn about that. They will want to know why that is happening. Let us know!
Avatar f tn I've also had lower back pain
Avatar f tn This new GYNO did a laparoscopy surgery to take biopsies to figure out what was causing so much pain. he noted I have multiple ovarian cysts measuring about 5.7. not sure what that exactly means.. but okay.. he noted that one fallopian tube is also severely damaged. and most likely has since birth. now present time Sept 2015 I have been put on Alysena low dose birth control to control excessive bleeding and cramps during my cycles. I have been on these pills for about 6 months.
