Avatar n tn Hi, It's very possible that this isn't necessarily a "functional" cyst. It could be just a simple cyst or some other type. I'm post menopausal --- way post menopausal and I had a cyst last January. Check out the top right of this page where it says "Health Pages" . There is a lot of information on cysts and remember that 95% of cysts are benign, as mine was. They may want to monitor it every 3 months or so to check for any changes.. but try not to worry .
Avatar f tn I was told i have functional cysts and I am in pain almost everyday. Its always on my right side. My gyno kept pushing the pill on me, and eventually I tried it. Within 4 hours of taking the pill my chest got very tight and i was so dizzy that i couldnt function. So I never took another after that. From taking that 1 pill, I was dizzy for a week . What I want to know is if there is another way to keep the cysts from forming?? Without having to take hormones.
Avatar f tn It is my guess that it means it is complex (had solid parts). This would mean it is not functional. Functional cysts are fluid filled and usually go away on their own within a couple of menstrual cycles. But, sometimes, two functional cysts can be on top of one another and appear complex. With endometriosis, it is a life long issue of dealing with cysts. I had endometriosis and a complex cyst removed when I was 15 years old. In between that time, I had many other cysts.
Avatar n tn There is a heterogeneously hypoechoic structure at the posterior aspect of the body of the uterus, measuring 1.1 x 0.8 x 0.9 cm, compatible with a fibroid. The uterus is otherwise normal and measures 11.0 x 5.5 x 4.4cm. The endometrial stripe is normal, measuring 11 mmin double wall thickness. No free fluid in the cul-de-sac. There is a complex, 2.9 cm left ovarian cyst, containing a few linear internal echoes, new since the prior study. The ovaries are otherwise normal.
Avatar f tn I have a large functional cyst on each ovary. The left ovarian cyst is about 6.5 cm and the right ovarian cys is about 8.5 cm. I have been on birth control pills for over 2 years and my bloodwork for hormones all came back at normal levels. I am curious about why these cysts may have formed and are they a sign of future problems?
Avatar f tn I had ovarian cysts in the past (Functional- fluid filled) and had a healthy baby girl 8months ago.
Avatar f tn m sure a number of members will reply that have had complex ovarian cysts . No, they are not always cancerous. Actually they aren't that rare.
Avatar n tn the most common is a functional cyst that u get every month of ur menstruating life and sometimes they get a lil blood in them (hemmoraghic cysts) but u are so right to see ur doctors and search for the answers .. OVCA used to be the "silent killer" because of its aqpparent lack of symptoms ... if we all pursue answers/treatment when something is not right ...
1324051 tn?1275414812 ve had a transvaginal ultrasound that showed 2 functional cysts and what appeared to be a ruptured cyst, though I never felt any great discomfort from that (unless the uti symptoms were that). Maybe I had a uti and coincidentally my ovarian cysts started causing issues at the same time? Anyway, it's been a month and a half and I still feel vague pelvic discomfort, like below my pubic hair line. It sort of feels like burning sometimes and it comes and goes, doesn't affect my sleep.
441524 tn?1205408195 One type of ovarian cyst is a called a functional cyst. This occurs when the egg is not released and the follicular fluid that surrounds the egg remains. Functional cysts range in size, most commonly being only a centimeter or so in diameter but occasionally as large as 8-10 centimeters (grapefruit-sized). These usually disappear by themselves within a few cycles, although the larger ones may cause enough pain to warrant removal.
Avatar f tn I was also given a blood test called CA-125 to screen for ovarian cancer. Perhaps you could get that test and ask what type of cyst it is (functional or non-functional). Best wishes!
2147557 tn?1395676951 Your cyst is the size of a functional cyst, I doubt they would mess with your hormones, although I dont know for sure. Is it a functional cyst or is it complex? If all goes well, your cyst should resolve itself within 3 months, but it is very normal to develop functional cysts, so they will come and go. You should be able to conceive without problems, although I would recommend to chat your doctor if you have trouble conceiving.
Avatar f tn These ovarian cysts which start during the normal function of menstrual cycle are called functional cysts which are of two types follicular cyst and corpus luteal cyst. Most of these cysts are harmless and disappear over a period of time. They are usually asymptomatic. In few patients cysts may cause menstrual irregularities, pelvic pain. In such cases medical help should be sought. Large cysts need surgical removal .
Avatar f tn The results showed 3 right ovarian cysts with the largest measuring 4.6x2.2x3.0cm. the report also noted a cystic focus inferior to the left ovary measuring 4.6x3.4x4.4cm. There is no fluid noted. I had a partial hysterectomy over 6 years ago, so no periods. My copy of the ultrasound report does not specifically indicate the type of cyst. In the CT report the radiologist said the "cystic lesions in bilateral ovaries likely due to functional cysts if the patient is still premenopausal.
Avatar n tn During my followup ultra sound it is discovered that now - not in addition to, have one functional cyst on my left ovary about 15 mm that depics blood tissue as well and one complex cyst on my right ovary that is 15 mm that is suspicous. The doctor has recommended that the ovary be removed. They did a CA125 and the value was 12. I have had issue with my bowels - always feel bloated and like I need to take laxitives. I eat small portions, no red meat and get plenty of fiber.
Avatar f tn It all depends on the type and size of the cyst. Symptoms may not always be present, but cysts can be a real hassle to deal with. They may twist on your ovary and cause a lot of pain and discomfort. Not all women have pain though. Don't worry too much about it either; pain or no pain, small or big cyst, complex or functional, most cysts are benign. Good luck with everything and I hope it turns out well.
Avatar n tn It is probably unlikely that this cyst is an ovarian cancer and that your hearburn symptoms are related to your cyst, but continued follow up with your gyn is definitely recommended. I've tried to help answer questions as below. 1. What are the chances that this is ovarian cancer? probably low, but you should have continued follow up with your physician to be sure this resolves. 2. What exactly are the "indigestion" symptoms that go along with ovarian cancer?
564029 tn?1216423219 There are different types of cysts, you can go to the link on the top of this page on the right that says health forum, and there is a list for all types of ovarian cysts. Did your dr. tell you what kind of cyst you have? Have you had a TV/US? During your reproductive years it is very common to get functional ovarian cysts that can disappear after a few menstrual cycles. Could it be your doctor is doing a watchful waiting to see if they go away? How long have you had the cyst?

Avatar f tn Less optimistically, the ovary could be damaged (either by the cyst or by the surgery) or she could develop more cysts in the future. The symptoms she is experiencing are easily blamed on the cyst. Many of us had similar symptoms. A great surgeon (preferably a gynecologist/oncologist) should do the surgery if it comes to that. This really sounds like a benign cyst.
Avatar f tn They can form anywhere in the body. Ovarian cysts (sists) form in or on the ovaries. The most common type of ovarian cyst is a functional cyst. Functional cysts often form during the menstrual cycle. The two types are: Follicle cysts. These cysts form when the sac doesn't break open to release the egg. Then the sac keeps growing. This type of cyst most often goes away in 1 to 3 months. Corpus luteum cysts. These cysts form if the sac doesn't dissolve.
