Avatar n tn Ovarian cysts are extremely common - so do not worry. However, they can also be extremely painful and can grow extremely large. Each month, when a woman ovulates, small follicles form on the outer part of the ovary. These follicles look like little marbles almost through an ultrasound. Now, during your period - these follicles are, keyword here 'supposed' to break free with the lining of your period but for some women, they do not.
Avatar n tn I was ttc and when I had an ultrasound the tech said follicles are a good sign for my situation. Usually with my cysts I would be crunched over in pain yet my friend never had side affects. How do you know you have cysts?
Avatar f tn My ultrasound showed 10-12 ovarian follicles 5-7mm in size. Is this a "normal" amount and size? Any input would be helpful. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I am 16 years old, I was diagnosed with ovarian cysts after many times to the hospital in may. I've been to my OB several of times. But everytime I go she kinda brushes off my symptoms. I'm having fatigue, low energy, frequent headaches, back pain, hip pain, and of course low abdominal pain. I'm also in constant pain, at times it gets worse.
Avatar f tn s been 4 months since i started my treatment, but the problem is that i have developed twice during this period ovarian cysts 3-5 cm, which cause me great pain. My doctor insists that visanne should prevent me from developing ovarian cysts, and every time this happens i have to take for 20 days secondary progesterone. So my question is should i look for somethng else? Maybe my thiroid or any other hormones that could cause ovarian cysts?
Avatar n tn I realize the cysts are caused by follicles that did not mature enough to release an egg but I am getting upset to have to lose time. I am 43 and I know my chances for success are low. Do most people get cysts from all the drugs?
Avatar f tn Cysts are fluid filled sac like structures present on the ovary. Most women suffer from ovarian cysts anytime during their life. When the follicles are forming small cysts may be present in the normal ovary. These ovarian cysts which start during the normal function of menstrual cycle are called functional cysts which are of two types follicular cyst and corpus luteal cyst. Most of these cysts are harmless and disappear over a period of time. They are usually asymptomatic.
Avatar f tn I had a CT Scan for these problems and it showed a cystic mass on my ovary so I had to go to my Gyn and had a Pelvic Sonogram. I have read that sometimes Ovarian Cancer can have the same symptoms as these other problems. Is that true? Also, what is your interpertation of the following results from my ultrasound. Status: Post Hysterctomy & Left Oophorectomy (this was done in 2006 for problems with very heavy bleeding and cysts on my left ovary) Right ovary measures 5 by 8.
Avatar n tn PCOS isnt a STD or similar, its a condition 1 in 10 women have whether sexually active or not. Its a condition that occurs due to hereditary circumstance or, steroid use. Its essentially the overstimulation of your ovaries which causes multiple follicles to surround your ovaries. PCOS got its name during a time before ultrasounds could depict follicles vs. cysts. Dr's thought what they were seeing were multiple cysts, hence the name, but in fact its all the extra follicles that cause PCOS.
Avatar n tn where you will find all sorts of information about cysts. Also, google Ovarian Cysts and follicles. There is a wealth of information out there. Usually cysts are monitored for a few cycles to see if they shrink..Most of the time they will. What has your Dr. advised ?
Avatar n tn Polycystis Ovarian Syndrome was named for the appearance of the ovaries (which often are bumpy looking with lots of cysts on them), but it is certainly not the only symptom. It is important to understand that just because a woman have ovarian cysts doesn't mean she has PCOS. Blood work can help to diagnose PCOS. The cysts that appear with PCOS are a result of egg follicles not fully maturing or being released.
Avatar f tn HI, Even though you may not want any more children, you are too young for a hysterectomy. The bleeding can be stopped with help of haemostatic medicines and with use of hormones like progestins. Also a D&C may sometimes be necessary to stop the bleeding. The ovarian cysts need further evaluation regarding their size and nature. Many of the cysts in young women respond to birth control pills or regress spontaneously. Hence it would be best to consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation.
Avatar n tn m a 47-year old female, who just had a transvaginal ultrasound to work up possible ovarian cysts after a syncopal episode that lined up with my cycle. Also, my mother had aggressive clear cell ovarian cancer, so good to have a baseline. My last ultrasound was from May 11, four days ago. Results were "Nothing to worry about." But this morning, post-bowel movement I started spotting. It's progressed to moderate flow with clots throughout the day.
Avatar f tn A smooth walled cyst with no solid components means it's probably fluid filled. It's size is about the size of a small lemon.Have you had a follow-up with your gyn to go over the test results? Cysts are very normal , especially in pre-menopausal women. Depending on it's type, size, your age, and other factors, your doctor could opt to do a " watchful waiting" over the course of a few menstrual cycles to see if it resolves on it's own.
Avatar f tn I ended up getting 1 embryo which my dr. called "parthenogenisis"- the embryo divided itself & kept dividing & would end up dying. Everything else that was found ended up being a cyst. For my 2nd cycle, we thought that upping the dose of gonal f/follistim would produce more follicles/embryos, but... I ended up getting multiple endometriomas. I thought I would have gotten a lot more embryos/follicles than just 1, with my 2nd cycle.

Avatar f tn here's me.. I'm 26 with pcos we have been ttc for 3.5 years. I had almost 100 cysts when I was originally diagnosed with pcos last year, then I had ovarian drilling in december 2009. At my post op appointment 6 weeks later I had 6 cysts left which dissolved in a few months. Here's my problem.. We are now on our fourth IUI with tamoxifen, follistim and HCG. Up until now I have only had follicles, no cysts.
1580043 tn?1333550441 Hello! Yes, cramping from both ovaries is common from Femara and Clomid (and other similar ovulatory drugs) by increasing amounts of Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH). Under normal hormone levels a race progresses for one follicle to become the largest, but when there's extra FSH multiple follicles will become enlarged in both ovaries. This is most likely what you're feeling, as I've had similar symptoms from Clomid.
Avatar m tn Be careful not to press on your belly or have another doctor press to hard on your pelvis as you may have cause ovarian cyst rupture and internal bleeding. You also can get ovarian torsion which has the symptoms of severe pelvic pain, nausea and vomiting. SEE YOUR REI ASAP.
Avatar n tn Cyst just means fluid with a skin over ti - think of a blister. In PCOS, the cysts are ovarian follicles. that means , around each egg cell there is a circle of cells called follicular cells that produce hormones. Those cells help mature the egg. Every month one egg is selected to mature and to ovulate - that is to pop out of the ovary. In PCOS, ovulation rarely occurs but multiple egg cells with follicle cysts around them develop.
967320 tn?1333199708 I just got AF after taking Provera, and went in today (CD2) for an ultrasound of my ovaries, and they of course showed the numerous small cysts associated with PCOS, but there were also 2 large follicles in one ovary. I asked her if it was normal to have them at the beginning of a cycle and she said no, so I assume this means the femara worked to grow the follicles last cycle, but I just did not release the eggs. My question is, will these 2 follicles go away on their own?

Avatar f tn suggested you do ? Ovarian Cysts and ovarian cancer can cause many similar symptoms. There is absolutely no way to tell for certain unless and until surgery is performed and the path results come back. Having said that, cysts are very very common and 95% benign. The best course of action is to speak with your physician to see what his recommended course of action is. They may possibly suggest removal, but sometimes, they prefer to wait awhile to see if they resolve themselves.
Avatar n tn My left ovary equates with a volume of 13cc and there are two large follicles arising within the ovary, one 1.8 x 1.3 x 1.7cm and the other 1.7 x 1.3 x 1.7cm. Unlike my right ovary a volume of 2.7cc shows minor follicular activity.
Avatar f tn My ultrasound results show multiple follicles (>6) with average size measure 8mm to 5mm noted in right and left ovaries respectively. Right Ovary size: 34 x 18 mm Left Ovary size: 25 x 18 mm Nodes: Nil Fluids: Nil This was taken on the 5th day after my periods. My TSH is 14.62. My periods happen at 28/29/30 days I got married a year ago and I haven't conceived. Do I have Polycystic Ovary Disease?
Avatar f tn The right ovary is 34x28x22mmx. Here we find 2 follicles or a biloculted cyst with a thick septum, more likely that these represent 2 adjacent follicles. The septation between the two are little hyper vascular. The left ovary is 30x30x28mms contains a follicle 13x8mms. The cul-de-sac is clear and the bladder appear normal. Report 2 dated Sept 22, 2008: The uterus measures 7.7x4.8x3.7cm. There is a fibroid at the fundus measuring 2.2cm. Endometrial lining is 0.4cm.
