Avatar n tn Not sure what the cause of the facial hair is as ovarian cysts do not themselves cause facial hair unless they are the type that secretes testosterone (very rare). If you have polycystic ovary syndrome than an imbalance of hormones can lead to increased facial hair. If that is the case the best solution is birth control pills to balance out your hormones. If you have a testosterone secreting ovarian tumor than this needs to be removed surgically.
Avatar n tn Although it’s not known for sure whether benign ovarian cysts or polycystic ovaries develop into ovarian cancer, the vast majority of ovarian cysts appear to be unrelated. Women who have polycystic ovaries or ovarian cancer seldom have obvious symptoms early on. However, in both disorders, symptoms are noticed as the condition progresses. Because the ovaries are affected on both disorders, the some of the symptoms can be similar.
Avatar f tn Although you do have some classic PCOS symptoms (absence of periods, excessive facial hair, scalp hair thinning, acne, tendency to gain weight), it could be some other type of endocrine or metabolic disorder such as thyroid, pituitary or adrenal. An ultrasound may be helpful too to see if you have the cysts associated with PCOS that are in a "strand of pearls" pattern. However, I have heard of women having many symptoms of PCOS without having the ovarian cysts.
Avatar f tn ve only had 2 periods, 1 that was natural and 1 that was forced with progesterone because my endomentrium was 18mm thick. I have severe facial hair problems and have only developed acne in the last few years. Everything got worse with weight loss, not better - except still no period, aside from 2-3 days of super heavy intermittent spotting that stopped as quickly as it began. They decided last year it was just my obesity that was the cause...
Avatar f tn Hi I’m 22 and have two children . I have frequent big ovarian cysts I have had cystectomys 3 times in the past 3 years. They are extremely painful and I still have no answer as to why I get them so frequent and how can I help preventing them . I have tried many different birth controls and I went even with out. I have not had a period in a long time like a year not at all .
Avatar m tn If you are less than 50 it is way lower. 98%-99% of ovarian cysts are benign. They can cause the same symptoms as ovarian cancer. It is good they are checking it out because ovarian cancer gets missed a lot. The blood test the CA 125 has a lot of false positives so do not assume you have cancer from the test. You have good doctors. AS far as removing your ovaries. Keep them as long as you can. Women need them. I used to like my sex life. I am happily married.
Avatar n tn php#Reproductive PCOS can affect 5% of all women and common symptoms include irregular menstrual cycles, increased growth of hair on the body, loss of hair on the head, acne, and weight gain.
Avatar m tn Other common traits of PCOS are excess body and/or facial hair, oily and acne-prone skin, being overweight or tendency to gain easily, irregular periods (I think they say 4 or less periods per year). Another possibility is endometriosis which causes pelvic pain and can cause ovarian cysts.
1356258 tn?1277664250 I am a 28 year old female and I have some of the symptoms of PCOS, including obesity, some mild facial and stomach hair, irregular periods (before I started birth control pills 10 years ago), acne (much better than as a teenager), but my fasting glucose is normal. I had several ultrasounds before my gallbladder removal surgery last year, and they said that my ovaries looked normal (gyno always says they feel normal, too). So is it possible to have PCOS without ovarian cysts?
Avatar f tn also there was no ovarian cysts on my ovaries but i have high levels of androgens (male hormones). facial hair and slight acne.
Avatar f tn It sounds like they are merely saying that the ultrasound findings are consistent with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is fairly common and is a condition of insulin resistance and usually elevated testosterone levels. Some common traits of PCOS (besides "beads" of cysts on the ovaries) are a tendency to be overweight or gain easily, excess body and facial hair, and acne.
Avatar f tn I exercise almost every day and have low body fat, but my doctor suggested I see a gynecologist since I may have ovarian cysts, and it runs in the family. I have an appointment in two weeks but would like to be well researched before I agree to take just anything. I break out very badly before and during menaces, and almost always have random pimples due to working out, even though I have tried every face wash and makeup fix.
1158774 tn?1287017992 Whislt your symptoms sound a lot like pcos, it also sounds like someone who is highly stressed. You can not know for sure until you have some tests done. Why don't you see a dr? It also sounds likely cos your mom's got it. It may be worthwhile checking it out just to be sure. All the best.
Avatar f tn * Irregular periods, or abnormal uterine bleeding or spotting * Change in frequency or ease of urination (such as inability to fully empty the bladder), or difficulty with bowel movements due to pressure on adjacent pelvic anatomy * Weight gain * Nausea or vomiting * Fatigue * Infertility * Increased level of hair growth * Increased facial hair or body hair * Headaches * Strange pains in ribs, which feel muscular * Bloating * Strange nodules that feel like bruises under the layer of skin.
Avatar n tn I have this and it can cause irregular periods, acne, hair loss, facial hair or excess body hair, bloating or weight gain, insulin resistance, infertility, ovarian cysts and hormonal imbalances. I have had this for many years and it is treatable once you are aware of it. First of all you need to be tested just to be sure. Ask your OBGYN to test you for this. You don't necessarily have to have all symptoms. I belong to soulcysters.com and its very helpful.
Avatar f tn gulp . . . things like facial hair. I have a good friend with pcos and she can sprout lots of facial hair. She also has excess weight that her doctors say is related to the androgen issue. And while the face can grow hair, you can lose it at your scalp. So, to know if you have PCOS, you have to (obviously) visit your doctor. They will do a regular exam like usual but also add on perhaps a vaginal ultrasound where they can look at your ovaries.
1681054 tn?1309835066 To find more information it is spelled Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Ovarian cysts, facial hair growth, losing hair on your head, acne, hormonal imbalances, insulin resistance - those are all things related to PCOS. It can be dealt with with weight loss, diet and medication. And yes, it is possible to become pregnant with it but first you need a diagnosis and to find out if you're ovulating or not (as it can cause you to stop ovulating).
11091907 tn?1415221745 Some of the common traits are cystic ovaries (cysts appear as a string of beads), hirsutism (excess body and/or facial hair), oily and acne-prone skin, irregular menstrual cycle. PCOS is a metabolic disorder of insulin resistance. If you have PCOS, I would think you would develop more cysts after having the current ones removed.
2129701 tn?1335494396 You do need to diet, exercise and take the medication for it to help. Some women get bad symptoms of nausea, diarrhea and hair coming out. My hair came out in the shower a lot but nothing severe... and I did get nauseous so I wouldn't eat as much but it went away as well... I had a bit of Diarrhea but you can take some pepto and be fine. Your body gets used to it, oh also my hair does get more oily faster.. I hate that part!!! I ALWAYS have to shower to keep my hair clean!
Avatar f tn I have been treating with an endo because I have the symptoms of PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome). I am 28 but at about 18 I started to develop facial hair & it has gotten worse thru the years. I have never experienced any ovarian cysts and was able to conceive without trouble. Also, I have weight gain problems and difficulty losing weight.
Avatar f tn ” But androgenetic alopecia, or AGA, is just one piece of the puzzle. Polycystic ovaries can cause hair loss on the scalp. (They also can cause facial and body-hair growth.) Hair loss also can be triggered by diseases such as lupus. Women sometimes lose hair following substantial and rapid weight loss or a high fever, or after going through major surgery or extreme stress. " I KNEW IT! Neither my gyn nor my onc/gyn were aware of this.
Avatar f tn Women with PCOS almost always have issues with their period and being regular as their ovaries are involved as well as hormones. They can have facial hair, weight gain is also common. But weight gain can be associated with a slow thyroid as well (and too much eating, ha ha). So, is it PCOS or thyroid or just your normal self . . .?? Really, only a doctor can tell you this and this is who you should see.
Avatar n tn I HAD AT LEAST 200 CYSTS BURST YESTERDAY AND DURING THE NITE WHEN I COULDNT SLEEP
