Avatar f tn suggested you do ? Ovarian Cysts and ovarian cancer can cause many similar symptoms. There is absolutely no way to tell for certain unless and until surgery is performed and the path results come back. Having said that, cysts are very very common and 95% benign. The best course of action is to speak with your physician to see what his recommended course of action is. They may possibly suggest removal, but sometimes, they prefer to wait awhile to see if they resolve themselves.

Avatar n tn What is the difference between ovarian cysts and ovarian cancer. I haven't had a period for 3 months now and I have a sharp pain in my lower right side, as well as back pain, especially in the mornings. once in a while i am off balance when walking. i am bloated, and a lot of times i don't have an appetite.
Avatar n tn I dont have ovarian cancer. That is what i am trying to figure out. My doctors arent finding anything. But after I read about this peritoneal i have all the symptoms and since it is in the abdominal lining it is hard to detect. i have not had the ca-125 test done yet i am going to ask my doc for that tomorrow. but i have the swollen belly pain. diahreha. all that. Cancer all types one in my family.
Avatar n tn Although it’s not known for sure whether benign ovarian cysts or polycystic ovaries develop into ovarian cancer, the vast majority of ovarian cysts appear to be unrelated. Women who have polycystic ovaries or ovarian cancer seldom have obvious symptoms early on. However, in both disorders, symptoms are noticed as the condition progresses. Because the ovaries are affected on both disorders, the some of the symptoms can be similar.
Avatar f tn It is possible that this pain is from something else or perhaps a fibroid or an ovarian remnant stayed on the left and now has a cyst. Yes, the symptoms for cysts and ovarian cancer can be quite similar. The CA 125 is quite unreliable, especially in pre-menopausal women. However, it can give some insight but definitely not a true indicator. I think it is time to get a second opinion and insist they rule out ovarian cancer.
604168 tn?1222537786 These are the reasons that The American Cancer Society does not recommend the CA-125 as a screening tool. Some women who have ovarian cancer have a low CA-125 ... others who do NOT have cancer have a high result. So you can see, it can have false results at both ends. I'm also a little concerned that they are talking about a hysterectomy at this stage of the game. My advice is to get another opinion !! There is absolutely no way of knowing at this point whether you have cancer or not !!
Avatar n tn A ct scan is sometimes carried out if ovarian cancer is suspected and you are having symptoms . A diagnosis of ovarian cancer can only for definate be made after pathology review with samples from the tissue. Are you having symptoms ? . A bit more info if possible would be helpful thanks.
Avatar f tn Just got my results from my pelvic ultrasound done on Fri. I hope to meet with my OBGYN right away. Been having symptoms for a few months and hadn't gotten anywhere with dr's - they were thinking IBS when I have no symptoms of it. Abdominal ultrasound came back normal. I then pushed for a pelvic ultrasound and just had it done at the lab on Fri. They found a simple cyst on 1 ovary and a septated cyst on the other. I had a C-section 17 months ago and a history of endometriosis. I am 34.
Avatar n tn The size of the mass does not determine if it is benign or not. Doctors do not usually remove a cyst unless it is 5 cms or bigger as at that point it can twist and cause problems. A complex cyst does mean cancerous. What else did they say? Are you still menstruating? When do you have to go back?
Avatar f tn I have researched about ovarian cysts and cancer trying to find out what are the best treatment options. Also, I had a second opinion and this doctor told me that with a laparoscopy it would be enough. At the same time, I am worried since I have no kids and if they remove everything I can't have any. So that's why I have joined this site and try to find some answers. Thanks for your help and I'll let you know what happens.
Avatar m tn Hi old_before_my_time! Thanks so much for your response. If the CA-125 test isn't accurate for diagnosing ovarian cancer, what is it for? My doctor didn't tell me if they were functional cysts or not. He just said I need another ultrasound in 4-6 weeks. Do they know what kind of cyst it is right away? Also do you know if it's common to have multiple at a time? Periods have been normal until last month when it lasted 2 weeks and continued with spotting.
Avatar f tn Unless you have the BRCA mutation you have a 1.4 % of ovarian cancer in a life time. 98% of all ovarian cysts are benign. Most women have several benign ovarian cysts in a life time. Uterine cancer and ovarian are not related which is weird. It is good they are checking. It may all turn out to be benign endometriosis. In the old days if you were past child bearing years they would do a hysterectomy. Now they know how important ovaries are to a woman's over all health and do not take them.
Avatar f tn is it comman for a 17 year old to have cancer. I have been having bad leg, pelvic, and lower back pain. they told me that i have ovarian cysts but i didn't know if it might be cancer because ovarian cancer is hard to ditect??? IF YOU COULD HELP THAT WOULD BE GREAT. Im just worried because i dont want it to be bad...
Avatar f tn should i be concern,i have a ovarian mass 7.
Avatar n tn i have a blood filled cyst i found out today--besides ibuprofin 3 times a day what can i do to alleiviate some of pain? And is this an early sign of ovarian cancer or are people freaking me out????
Avatar f tn Did your doctor not follow up on this ultrasound? The odds are good you don't have it but you should have another transvaginal ultrasound to know your current status. The symptoms of ovarian cancer and cysts are very similar. In many cases they can't be sure until a cyst is removed and biopsied. Please don't ignore this.
Avatar m tn More than 98%t of ovarian cysts are none cancer. Ovarian cysts in women are very common. Most resolve themselves with out surgery. If you can take something like Ibuprofen that can help with inflammation.
Avatar f tn I have been having the signs of ovarian cancer but the problem is that I am morbidly obese and never taken seriously. I even have an elevated white blood cell count, breast milk secretion, a lot of gas, painful urination (feels like not empty), stomach bloating, bleeding in between periods, pain during intercourse, often feels like someone is raping me even when not having relations with my husband. I can feel the shedding of my cervix.
Avatar n tn Most ovarian cysts and masses are benign, even suspicious looking ones. If you do not have a family history or predisposition for ovarian cancer then your lifetime risk is less than 2%. And yes, the CA125 test is not accurate at diagnosing ovarian cancer. Benign (non-cancerous) conditions can cause an elevated result. A friend of mine had a CA125 level over 1000 (VERY HIGH) when she had a benign cyst. She unnecessarily lost not only her ovary but also her uterus and other ovary.
