Common Questions and Answers about Ovarian cysts pain mirena

Avatar f tn About 10% of women using Mirena will develop an ovarian cyst. These cysts may disappear on their own in a month or two. However, cysts can cause pain and sometimes will need surgery I found this info under contracept.
Avatar f tn My questions are is it possible the mirena iud causes the cysts. My doc. says no but the commercials and side effects note 12% of women will develop cysts. But my doc ignored that and said 12% of women will develop cysts anyways. I have never had a problem with cysts prior to the iud. Also, is it safe to take b/c pills and have the iud? I am concerned it could increase even more the chance for blood clots as I am 35. Thank you.
Avatar m tn Yes, it can be. Ovarian cysts, endometriosis, and other conditions can all cause back pain.
Avatar f tn I don't know a whole lot about the Mirena, but I've heard that ovarian cysts are relatively common after having it inserted. I've never used the Mirena or other type of IUD, however, I have had ovarian cysts (I've since had a complete hysterectomy due to other problems). Normally they will just kind of keep an eye on the cyst to see if it is getting larger or if it starts causing you pain or other problems. Sometimes the cysts will go away on their own.
Avatar f tn I was on, and I am now back on depo but switching from the depo to mirena because I was worried about issues w/ osteoporosis. I have major issues w/ ovarian cysts so I need a birth control method that limited periods as much as possible, so the mirena was the next best possibility. I also liked the fact that it was good for five years. Even with all of the positives w/ the mirena, I would do some more research & make sure you are in touch w/ your body.
Avatar f tn Sorry I don't have any answers, but I'm with you on the recurring cysts. The Gyno and I were convinced that the Mirena IUD was the cause for the recurrent cysts and it was removed during the last laparoscopy in November '11 when the cyst was drained. There was no endometriosis and no PCOS - all went fine for 3 months and the dull/stabbing pain is back since the beginning of the month.
Avatar f tn I had the Mirena IUD placed after my son was born 3 years ago. I have had pain on my left side for the past 6 months. I have had several ovarian cysts during that time (mind you after my daughter was born i had my right ovary removed due to a large ovarian cyst 17mm). I had it removed in July 2011 thinking that it was causing the pain. I did not have a period the whole three years I had it.
Avatar f tn I know you are going through alot. I am going through the same thing. Trying to deciede what is right my pain is on the left side and before everyone said it was in my mind. I too have blood pressue and migraines. I don't want to go into early menopause. They I will have different issues. I think what I want to do is try the D&C again and then see if they can do the endometrial ablation. I have the shoulder pain and back pain.
965641 tn?1274534320 I am very biased in response to the mirana. It triggered ovarian cysts to grow which caused me to have pain for six months and then surgery with a two week long recovery. Apparently if ANYONE in your family has ever had ovarian cysts you should not go on mirana. Otherwise it was uncomfortable (to say the least) getting it in but a painless ease to get it out. So weigh your options. If you have no family history of cysts then I would say go for it. I have used nuva ring, loved the ease etc.
Avatar f tn Women of child bearing age do regularly develop small cysts on a regular basis as a result of ovulation. Sometimes these cysts don't resolve themselves right away. Did the doctor say whay kind of cysts they are? Most times when the cysts are the size of yours they will wait a month or two and redo the ultrasound to see if they have resolved. There is some good info on cysts on the health pages attached to this forum (top right). Good luck with everything.
Avatar f tn I just hope I find a anwser to my problem because I hate being in pain every month. My OBGYN didnt think the mirena was causing all the cyst but my regular doctor said yes the mirena might not be causing it but its not helping them either. So she wanted to switch me to a different kind and I have only had the nuvra ring a month and a half now and its not working so hopefully the pills work better for me.
Avatar f tn something in the entrance. As soon as the exam started, he remarked on the size of left ovarian cysts, and said he could feel my uterus. Ordered an US and x-ray. I'm not too worried about cancer (though it runs strong in my family), more about what this means, if they're related, and what we can do about it. Whew...sorry that was so long! I just can't really find anything else like it, and you guys seemed so nice/supportive...thanks for listening if you've made it this far!
Avatar f tn i have two ovarian cysts one 3cm and the other slightly smaller, i was already on mirena an iud and now put on yaz to for birth control to shrink the cysts but now my breast are swelling really bad, what should i look out for as for complications, is this safe?
Avatar f tn And a constant strong metallic smell even when there was no discharge. After I got two painful ovarian cysts, and about ten other unpleasant and painful symptoms/side effects, I had it removed. I'm still suffering a lot of my endo symptoms, and a lot of the newer symptoms/side effects since removal two weeks ago.
1287128 tn?1331134538 Also wondering if since its paraovarian meaning its right outside the ovary near the fallopian tube, if it were cancerous, what kind of cancer would it be? Fallopian or ovarian? Also, I just got the mirena put in 8 weeks ago should I consider taking it out? Thanks for your time!
Avatar n tn Yes, I had all these and more -ovarian cysts, acne, hair loss, joint pain, back pain, fatigue, anxiety and no sex drive- I had the copper iud before the mirena- I had no problems because it didn't have a hormone in it- when I got the mirena, I didn't realize how much the progesterone would bother me. I hope this help you.
Avatar f tn I have had the Mirena coil in for 15 Months now, i went to the Practice Nurse a few weeks ago with all sorts of symptoms inc lack of bladder control and continuous dark discharge, initial inspection by the Nurse found a swollen cervix, so infection tests were carried out, they came back negative, with symptoms including lower back pain and sharp contraction like pains, i was refered for urgent scan, during the Ultra sound scan at least one cyst 30mmX30mmX40mm was found on my right ovary, the dul
1926656 tn?1334970201 I had Mirena for almost 3 years, it was great the 1st year n half or so but then it made my ovarian cysts worse, had cramps worse then I'd had in my life even pre-kids and had to get it taken out. I would double over in pain some days out of no where in the end, but my periods were almost nonexistent for over a year which in a way was nice but I think that's what half my problem was. I had to go on pills with my mirena the last 6 months cuz my cysts got so bad... good luck and congrats!
Avatar f tn A couple years ago I had the Mirena put in because I was having ovarian cysts. This helped until 5 months ago. Now they are back with a vengeance. I had the Mirena removed a couple of weeks ago so I could try other bc options. I am wondering if anyone else gets cysts back to back like this? I feel as though I am losing my mind being in this constant pain. I am a healthy 29 year old with one child.
Avatar f tn Could be, also a sign or fibroids or ovarian cysts (which are normal to have and usually harmless but cause discomfort). I would talk to your doctor about it at your next pap smear.
Avatar f tn This sounds like ovarian cysts

Avatar n tn Since my gyno continues to tell me my gas, bloating, constant BMs and lower left-sided pelvic pain is NOT related to my ovarian cysts, she sent me to a gastroenterologist. I had a CT scan yesterday that only showed my IUD and "bilateral prominent ovaries". I briefly spoke with the GI doctor who said this could be due to my menstrual cycle. Since having the IUD, I have not had a period now in over a year. And he did say "prominent" meant "enlarged". So.....
