Avatar n tn Does birth control help with the pain from ovarian cysts? Does using birth control help ressolve the existing cysts? How long does it take for birth control to show progress in pain and resolution of ovarian cysts? I started using the nuva ring almost two weeks ago. I thought the pain was gone (as it had disappeared for over a week) then all of a sudden this weekend the pain returned with the same intensity. Does this mean the cysts are growing? I am growing extremely frustrated with the pain.
Avatar f tn Mostly they are symptomless But Ovarian cysts can, however, cause problems if they twist, bleed, or rupture. Most ovarian cysts will go away on their own. One of the most effective treatments for ovarian cysts is use of contraceptive pills or progesterone pills. It can also be treated surgically and this procedure is known as drilling. Other modes of treatment are laparoscopic surgery, laparotomy or surgery for complicated ovarian cysts.
Avatar f tn This new GYNO did a laparoscopy surgery to take biopsies to figure out what was causing so much pain. he noted I have multiple ovarian cysts measuring about 5.7. not sure what that exactly means.. but okay.. he noted that one fallopian tube is also severely damaged. and most likely has since birth. now present time Sept 2015 I have been put on Alysena low dose birth control to control excessive bleeding and cramps during my cycles. I have been on these pills for about 6 months.
Avatar n tn What started initially as a small complex Ovarian Cysts now on scan the Dr. says is getting bigger and has put her on birth control pill. How does one get Ovarian Cysts. Please help.
Avatar m tn you will know. it is pain like you have never felt before in your stomach. its like cramps times 100. you may also faint or feel light headed. and no you do not bleed in all cases.
Avatar n tn Hormonal treatment in the form of birth control pills is the preferred treatment for reducing ovarian cysts. The pills will show there effects within 2 to 3 months. Ovarian drilling is a surgical procedure that can be associated with complications like adhesions. Hope this helps. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I am 16 years old, I was diagnosed with ovarian cysts after many times to the hospital in may. I've been to my OB several of times. But everytime I go she kinda brushes off my symptoms. I'm having fatigue, low energy, frequent headaches, back pain, hip pain, and of course low abdominal pain. I'm also in constant pain, at times it gets worse.
Avatar m tn I went off birth control 4 years ago and ever since then I have been developing ovarian cysts. Sometimes i get lower back pain that extends down my buttocks and feels like sciatica . I also get what feels like menstral cramping after intense exercise. During ovulation i also experience uncomfortable cramping. My periods are pretty regular (maybe off by 5 days tops) and they are not heavy, just normal and they last about 4 days.
Avatar f tn I have never had a problem with cysts, until I stopped taking birth control. I had pain on my right side and went for an ultrasound and they told me I have a few small cysts on the right and one had ruptured, but they were more concerned because I had one on my left ovary that is 2.8cm. I think this may have been caused by me abruptly stopping the pill a few months ago. My husband had a vasectomy so I figured why keep taking the pill, I didn't realize how much is would mess up my system.
Avatar n tn There are more than one flavor of ovarian cysts and some are more cause for concern than the usual ones that occur due to what I think of as a misfired egg. I've had plenty of those along with hemorrhagic and chocolate cysts from endometriosis. Those tend to not rupture on their own and surgery usually is only considered after the size has been tracked for a few months and it gets so large that it causes more symptoms or interferes with fertility. Ain't it great to be a woman?!
Avatar f tn s heavy ,I have abdominal pain and nausea and weakness ..I have a history of ovarian cysts and pelvic inflammatory disease. My doctor put me on birth control and it made things worse..what do I do?
965641 tn?1274534320 I am very biased in response to the mirana. It triggered ovarian cysts to grow which caused me to have pain for six months and then surgery with a two week long recovery. Apparently if ANYONE in your family has ever had ovarian cysts you should not go on mirana. Otherwise it was uncomfortable (to say the least) getting it in but a painless ease to get it out. So weigh your options. If you have no family history of cysts then I would say go for it. I have used nuva ring, loved the ease etc.
Avatar f tn Hi there, sorry to hear about you're pain. If it continue to cause you pain & it's still the same size you're OBGYN might suggest birth control or surgery to have it remove I had on on both ovaries but they went away on it on. Try to use a hot compress and over the counter pain meds. Hope you feel better.

Avatar f tn That way, no more once a month bad pain, and with BC pills maybe they will control the growth of any more cysts forming on my remaining ovary too. I am really scared about it all, i have never had any problems like this. Its all new to me. Thanks so much for talking with me about this.
Avatar n tn i have a blood filled cyst i found out today--besides ibuprofin 3 times a day what can i do to alleiviate some of pain? And is this an early sign of ovarian cancer or are people freaking me out????
Avatar m tn 5 cm in diameter. The GYN put her on birth control and the unbearable pain seemed to be getting better until yesterday. I know it's not likely, but what are the odds of ovarian cancer in teen? Being a complex cyst really worries me. She gets another pelvic ultrasound next week, but I could really use some different views on the matter. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Majority of women do experience ovarian cysts and they generally do go away on their own without any damage. Caution that if it is on the larger size then it could rupture or twist in which you will experience extreme pain. If this happens it is an emergent situation and you need to go to the ER. Many women find that they need to get second and third opinions in order to get answers they need from someone they trust.
Avatar f tn Also I have found a small, hard knot behind the opening of my cervix. Ovarian cysts, ovarian cancer, and endometriosis are something that has occurred in my family many times. I am terrified. I have made an appointment at my gynecologist (sp?) but I have to have a referral to see them. My appointment is in 6 days and I don't know any doctors around where I now live to receive a referral. I am curious to know if others have had these symptoms and what did they turn out to be.
Avatar f tn I find often that women who have chronic pelvic pain are talked into believing that 1-2 cm cysts are causing their problems. These cysts are normal and are almost always present on every woman's ovaries. I hope this is not what your doctors are talking about too! Your problem is a difficult one--chronic pain in the pelvic area, and believe it or not, often results from some sort of major physical/psychological trauma that becomes worse and worse over time.
Avatar f tn A centimeter is less than 1/2 inch (1 centimeter = .3937 inches) so those cysts are small. But some women have pain with small cysts. And if they leak or rupture, that can be painful. Most ovarian cysts resolve on their own in 2 to 3 cycles. Some doctors prescribe birth control pills in hopes that will help them shrink. How long have you been having pain?
Avatar n tn Normally birth control helps with the pain in those who have PCOS. But maybe you just haven't found the right pill to be on. I take Yasmin, and never had any issues with it. Also birth control pills normally don't cause cysts and thats why they are generally given to those with cysts to make them smaller. See your doctor.
Avatar f tn So, I meet a really wonderful man and when we had sex it was very painful and the bloating, cramping and pain afterward lasted for days, so I go to my OB and they find an ovarian cyst on each ovary. They said "Let's watch it over the course of a few months and see if it goes away on its own or bursts". I agree that's probably fine to do, but I just can't handle intercourse and it's becoming a real strain on this very new relationship.
