Avatar n tn I am just curious (i can not find it anywhere) What is the difference between a dermoid cyst being in the ovary or on the ovary. Are they most often in the ovary? I guess I am a little confused. Also, can dermoid cysts go away on their own? Lastly, I am on birth control. Is it bad or good to continue bc while you have a dermoid ovarian cyst?
Avatar f tn They can form anywhere in the body. Ovarian cysts (sists) form in or on the ovaries. The most common type of ovarian cyst is a functional cyst. Functional cysts often form during the menstrual cycle. The two types are: Follicle cysts. These cysts form when the sac doesn't break open to release the egg. Then the sac keeps growing. This type of cyst most often goes away in 1 to 3 months. Corpus luteum cysts. These cysts form if the sac doesn't dissolve.
Avatar n tn The radiologist also said that I had good blood flow to the ovary. The only thing that took me to the O.R. after the ultrasound was when my gyne surgeon saw that my white blood cells were high. What she found in the O.R. was my ovary had twisted around 3 times like a cord!!! It was dusky looking too! (I saw the photos she took via laparoscopy.) So beware of ultrasound results, they aren't the definitive proof that the ovary isn't being jeopardized.
Avatar n tn My doctor said nothing to worry about you have very small cysts on left ovary. This wasn't just stumbled upon, I had been complaing of pain and requested an ultrasound. I decided to get a second opinion and pick up the ultrasound report.I was SHOCKED to read the report. It said a, "soild low density mass cannot be excluded." Follow up recommened and transvaginal study reccommened. It said," Possiable left ovarian cyst versus soild mass.
Avatar n tn Also the dermoid can be diagnosed on ultrasound. Functional ovarian cysts resolve spontaneously many times. For the rest surgical management becomes necessary especially if they are large. Consult your Doctor. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I have one ovary that has a small cyst 22x21x28. the left ovary is has a large mass measuring 53x82x74...what does that mean. could it be ovarian cancer.
Avatar f tn says not to worry about my ovarian cyst on my remaining left ovary that she thinks is NOT a chocolate cyst, though the u/s tech (who has been a u/s tech for 15 yrs. and showed me the cyst and other funtional clear cysts-you could see the difference easily! and I have had a choc. cyst before that ruptured, needing emergency surgery-2 pints of blood ended up in my abdomen). The ER Dr. also concurred it is a choc. cyst and said I needed immediate surgery to remover the ovary. NONNEGOTIABLE.
Avatar m tn The cyst was discovered while trying to determine the cause of abdominal pain that turned out to be a ruptured cyst on the right ovary. After reading a lot on the internet, it seems that removing it more common than watching and waiting, but I cannot find any discussion about removing the ovary in a perimenopausal woman. I understand that my right ovary would continue to function, but wonder if there is an underlying risk of which I am not aware.
367100 tn?1330914725 I had them before i got pregnant and i now have a small pregnancy cysts on my right ovary. The pregnancy cysts are nothing to worry about and should go at some point so my doctor said they sometimes get bigger or smaller but they are quite common when you are pregnant. Please read the info i found on the net for you:- Many women go for a routine ultrasound or pelvic examination early in their pregnancy and come away with the surprise finding of an ovarian cyst.
Avatar n tn i read on a medical web page not long after finding out that i myself have a hemmhoragic cyst on my left ovary that fertility drugs can help to cause ovarian cysts because most ovarian cysts are caused by the eggs not making it all the way out of the ovary or something of that sort and they just kind of pile up inside of the ovary and form a cyst. however, i did read that most ovarian cysts go away sometime during ovulation.
Avatar n tn This would probably be better answered on the ovarian cyst forum. Most cysts and masses are benign, Only about 12 % are ovca. If in doubt, ask to be referred to a gyn/ocologist.
Avatar f tn When the follicles are forming small cysts may be present in the normal ovary. These ovarian cysts which start during the normal function of menstrual cycle are called functional cysts which are of two types follicular cyst and corpus luteal cyst. Most of these cysts are harmless and disappear over a period of time. They are usually asymptomatic. In few patients cysts may cause menstrual irregularities, pelvic pain. In such cases medical help should be sought.
Avatar f tn I went to the doctors last week and they sent me in for a ct scan. The report found a tumour within the pouch of douglas on the right side. The tumour measured at 27mm x 24mm. It says that it is a fat containing tumour consistent with a dermoid. The doctor then sent me for an internal ultrasound. The report for this said that.... The uterus is anteverted with a volume of 24cc The endometrical thickness is 5mm Right ovarian volume is 21cc Left ovarian volume is 8.
Avatar f tn The size of the cyst may necessitate the removal of your ovary but some surgeons with good cystectomy skills can remove large cysts without removing all ovarian tissue. That may be worth pursuing since you're so young. Removal of even one ovary can permanently disrupt ovarian hormone function impairing not only fertility but many aspects of health since ovarian hormones are essential to good health. I hope surgery goes well! Please post with an update.
Avatar n tn It is actually a solid nodule on my right ovary. The other cysts did go away. I am having another ultrasound on the 21st of this month. I can definitely feel it and it is uncomfortable. The CA125 came back within normal range. My regular doctor gets back from vacation the same day as my ultrasound. Can nodules disappear or are they there until removed? I am really hoping they can remove just the nodule and not my whole ovary.
Avatar f tn I have been having lower abdomen problems (burning constantly) for about a year. I have been seeing a Gastroenterologist and have numerous test done and have been diagnosed with GERD and Barretts Esophagus and IBS. I take medication and watch what I eat but nothing helps. I had a CT Scan for these problems and it showed a cystic mass on my ovary so I had to go to my Gyn and had a Pelvic Sonogram. I have read that sometimes Ovarian Cancer can have the same symptoms as these other problems.
Avatar f tn the right ovary is enlarged measuring 7.6 x 4.4 x 3.7 cm with a relatively large right ovarian probable simple cyst measuring 4.1 x 4.1 x 4.2 cm with a contiguous complex cyst possibly a hemorrhagic cyst measuring 3.2 x 3.1 x 4.
Avatar f tn The concern is if they get too large, they can cause the ovary to twist on itself (ovarian torsion) which can cause the ovary to die. However, you have the risk of losing the ovary with surgery too. Hopefully, your gynecologist or any other you would choose would have good cystectomy (cyst removal) skills so you would not have to lose your ovary since that can hinder fertility.
Avatar m tn It would be unusual for her to have a problem with the remaining ovary. Usually, ovarian cysts pose no other issue once they have been removed. She should talk to her doctor to make sure there was not anything unusual about her cyst that could affect the other ovary. But, in general, she should be fine!
Avatar f tn I am sorry you are dealing with this. The good thing is that most ovarian cysts are benign and most resolve on their own. However, these sound like the type that do not go away so need to be surgically removed especially the larger one due to size. According to radiology websites, hypoechoic cysts are usually endometriomas or teratomas (dermoids) both of which are benign (non-cancerous) cysts. Of course, imaging is not exact so they cannot know for sure until they do surgery.
Avatar f tn (3) Another disadvantage I worried most about with laparosocpy is the extent to preserve the normal ovarian tissue. Although one small part of the ovary can function well, if the remaining ovary has cysts re-grow inside, a smaller ovary has a smaller chance to get preserved for the second or third surgeries. So it is better to always preserver more ovarian tissue as possible. From the video below, it seems one half normal ovarian tissue is removed.
Avatar n tn 12 years ago I had my right ovary removed because the cyst spread over the whole ovary, and 2 years ago it spread to the left ovary, and had that removed. Now the cyst on my left ovary has resurfaced. I am feeling alot of pain, and I have been to the doctor and was told to follow up on my cyst but I never did because of insurance reasons. But I have been having pains on my left side, like a burning and painful sensation. What can I do for pain?
Avatar f tn t here heterogenous texture on enlarged ovary a lot on this forum.the most common is complex cyst but this maybe the same thing as heterogenous texture what do you think?
Avatar n tn Usually it is not until they are in there and see whether the ovary has been compromised that they decide to remove it. The bleeding is definitely of concern. Bowel and urine and pain and bloating are all common cyst symptoms. When is your surgery scheduled? there are a lot of questions you need to ask and a 2nd opinion might be valuable.
Avatar m tn This is the reason the cysts concerns me I guess. I have read alot of information on the cysts in postmenopausal women and somewhere in the information it usually talks about cancer.
Avatar n tn Yes, if ovarian cysts linger and grow it can block the follicles of the ovary from releasing an egg. Good luck!!
Avatar f tn To my relief baby was fine. However, an 8cm side was found on my right ovary with a daughter cyst inside. The staff at the early pregnancy unit didn’t seem concerned at first. They said cysts are normally just pushed out of the way by the growing baby. I was referred to a consultant 4 weeks after. The laidback attitude changed when I saw the consultant. He put so much fear into me.
Avatar f tn One was the size of a grapefruit and twisted twice on its stalk on my left ovary and the other on my right ovary was the size of a softball. I went to the ER in pain and had them taken out a few days later. The Dr also said he removed parts of my ovaries but left some ovary tissue on both sides (more on the right than the left). He was really vague and will find out more info at my followup. My question is how is this going to affect me fertility. I do want more kids.
